The lake appeared calm, but the water was green, and wisps of steam rose from it. These wisps of steam were a dark reddish-black, rather eerie color. It seemed that beneath the surface, the lake was far more turbulent than its surface suggested.
"This is it," Wan'er took a deep breath and stood by the lake. "Success or failure hinges on this."
"Just barge in like this?" Mercury stared thoughtfully at the bottom of the water.
Wan'er nodded, took the little black dog from Mercury's hand, and with a flick of her wrist, revealed a red string wrapped around her wrist.
She moved swiftly and quickly, tying the little black dog to her back. Turning back, she whispered to the dog, "Don't worry, with my spiritual light protecting you, you just need to stay behind me. I won't hurt you."
"Woof!" The little black dog twitched its ears, seemingly grateful for Wan'er's trust in it.
"Are you ready? We're going to jump from here." Wan'er turned to look at Mercury and nodded to him.
Mercury nodded, and the two of them, with serious expressions, activated their spiritual power, and soon their surroundings were enveloped in a red light.
With a splash, two figures jumped into the lake and plunged to the bottom. After the waves rolled, the lake quickly returned to calm.
The water was icy cold, but protected by a red light, it could not penetrate the body.
Although the water was murky, the two people, with their high spiritual power, could see it clearly.
Not long after they went down, they sensed an unusual dark shadow around them, moving swiftly like a ghost.
"Whoosh whoosh whoosh..." As the water rippled, they opened their mouths and let out all sorts of terrifying screams.
"Hmph! A mere trick. You've probably forgotten where your grandpa was born?"
"Roar!" Mercury suddenly swung his legs and twisted his body. A pair of large fish tails appeared under his feet. The shimmering fish tails, carrying a beam of strange light, swept towards the dark shadow with a "whoosh!" sound. Bubbles rose from the bottom of the water with a "gurgling!" sound. The dark shadow in front of him quickly disappeared under the sweep of the fish tails.
"Great!" Wan'er playfully gave Mercury a thumbs up, then her eyes lit up and she spotted a black hole about 5 meters below the water to her left.
Wan'er turned and swam downwards...
"Ho ho!" Just as Wan'er was about to arrive, a long, hairy hand suddenly reached out and grabbed at Wan'er's back.
With a loud "whoosh!", a halo of light exploded, forcing the hairy hand back and causing it to let out a strange "waaaah!" Meanwhile, the little black dog tied to its back remained unharmed…
The little black dog, who had been tense, seemed relieved upon seeing this. She must have felt even more grateful to Wan'er.
The situation remained critical. After the hairy hand recoiled several meters, it returned, quickly spinning back. Wan'er heard a "Hehehaha!" sound beside her. Turning around, she saw, in the shimmering water, several incredibly strong and robust water monkeys appearing in front of and behind her and Mercury.
Its face was ferocious, its arms and legs outstretched, as it viciously lunged at them.
These water monkeys have long arms and legs, ugly appearance, and are covered in hair. They are what people usually call drowning ghosts. Although they are weak and powerless on the shore, they are incredibly strong in the water. Anyone who falls into the water and comes into contact with them, no matter how good their swimming skills are, will be dragged to the bottom and lose their precious life.
The fact that so many water monkeys are gathered together at this moment suggests that they were summoned by the Demon King.
