"What's wrong?" Hearing his question, Wan'er quickly put Mo Tian aside and hurried over. She and Shui Xing helped Bi Yu to sit on the sofa from both sides.
"Sister, Baihe..." Before she could finish speaking, tears streamed down her face. Biyu pointed to the inside of her clothes. Realizing something was wrong, Wan'er looked into Biyu's arms and saw her trembling hands as she opened the sleeve of her robe...
A small, dying white bird, stained with blood, lay pitifully on her clothes, staining them blue...
"Is she really Bai He?" Wan'er was startled, hardly believing what she was seeing. She looked up at Biyu in astonishment, "How did she end up like this? And how did you find her?"
“At lunchtime, I sensed her call and rushed out. When I arrived, she was already like this. I don’t know why. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have left her there. My cultivation wasn’t strong enough, and I didn’t protect her properly.” Biyu shook her head and wept, deeply blaming herself. She picked up the white lotus wrapped in her clothes and held it up to Wan’er. “The white lotus is so pitiful! Sister, you must save her, or she will die.”
"Okay, let me see where she's injured. It looks like her wing is broken." Wan'er took a deep breath, blinked, and reached out to touch the little white bird's feet and small body. "She was injured by an external force, quite seriously, but luckily you arrived in time. Don't worry, although I lack experience, treating her shouldn't be a problem."
Wan'er carefully stood up, holding Bai He in her arms.
"Hey, do you want to eat first?" Mercury reminded Wan'er.
"I'm not eating, you guys eat first." Wan'er rolled her eyes at him, turned around and went into her bedroom. Biyu wanted to follow, but Wan'er closed the door behind her; she didn't want anyone to disturb her.
"It's alright, come and eat." Mercury called to Biyu, who paced back and forth outside the bedroom, her hands nervously twisting her abdomen, looking very uneasy.
"Human life is at stake, how can they eat?" Uncle snorted coldly, glared at Mercury, turned and went into the kitchen, picked up two large bowls, went back to the table, picked up some food, went back to the kitchen to heat it in a pot, and muttered as he came out, "I'm keeping it warm for them, we can eat first."
Mercury's stomach was rumbling. She sat down at the table and glanced at her uncle. Her uncle looked rather gloomy today. Was he blaming her?
Mercury didn't dare look up at him anymore, she just picked up her chopsticks and buried her head in her food, saying, "I'm starving."
Uncle sat down, shook his head and looked at Mercury, seemingly preoccupied. In the end, he only ate two mouthfuls of rice, put down his chopsticks, and got up to leave the table.
The old man had been preoccupied with worries these past two days. He looked up and watched his uncle enter his bedroom and close the door. Mercury buried his head in his food, ate quickly, and after finishing, seeing that Wan'er hadn't come out yet, he turned and went to push open his uncle's bedroom door.
The door opened easily, but the bedroom was quiet and dark.
"Snap!" He reached out and turned on the light switch behind the door, but his great-uncle was nowhere to be seen in the room. Didn't that old man just come in a moment ago? Could he have jumped out of the window?
Mercury walked to the window, reached out and pushed it, but the window was closed; it was impossible for her to jump from there.
But the room is only so big, with a big closet, a bed, and a desk, where could he possibly hide?
