After driving for less than fifteen minutes, we arrived at an old building area. From a distance, we could see conspicuous red "demolish" characters written on the nearby walls.
Wan'er parked the car next to an empty basketball court. After getting out of the car, she walked forward along an old path that was only wide enough for two motorcycles to pass back and forth. The two sides were covered with the character "拆" (demolish) written on them.
The desolate, mottled walls seemed to faintly hold a glimmer of hope.
After walking through a narrow alley about 100 meters long, there were about a dozen dilapidated old buildings in front of her. This was behind the hospital where Wan'er worked, and it was Wan'er's first time here.
An elderly man, his face blurred and pale, stood with his hands behind his back, looking in this direction from his left front, presumably in front of his own building.
"Sir, I'm asking you about someone, the one at the hospital up ahead, that..."
"Where does Dr. Liu Chang'an live?" Wan'er walked over and asked immediately.
Unexpectedly, his question earned him a disdainful look from the old man. "Hmph! Aren't you that Wan'er? How dare you come here?"
When the old man saw Wan'er, he even took a few steps back.
"Um, I, I'm not the Wan'er you're talking about." Seeing the old man's disgusted expression and recalling what had happened before, Wan'er vaguely felt that something was wrong, so she quickly waved her hand and denied it.
"No way, you're really not Wan'er?" The old man stepped forward, stared at Wan'er for a moment, and couldn't help but gasp and shake his head. "The appearance is too similar, but the demeanor of the whole person seems completely different."
“I am just her, her long-lost twin sister.” Unable to explain clearly to the old woman, Wan’er thought of the easiest excuse, “It’s because I heard that she lives in Dr. Liu Chang’an’s house. So I came to recognize her.”
"Is that so? No wonder!" The old man breathed a sigh of relief, nodded, and the sharpness in his eyes disappeared; he finally relaxed.
"Sir, I sense something in your words. Your expression just now seemed to indicate disgust. Can you tell me directly about my sister's matter?"
"Your sister, she..." The old man sighed and uttered those four words, but then suddenly felt it was inappropriate. So he looked at Wan'er awkwardly, waved his hand, and turned to walk home. "I'd better not say anything more. After all, it's their family matter. Besides, you're still her sister. It doesn't seem right to talk about her like that."
Hey, this old man has a few tricks up his sleeve.
Wan'er quickly followed, "Grandpa, listen to me, it's alright. If she did anything wrong, I'll definitely have a good talk with her. Besides, I won't tell her this..."
"Hey, do you really want to hear this?" Upon hearing this, the old man turned around and stopped. His originally peaceful expression suddenly changed. "Then I'll be blunt. Your sister is not the kind of person who can manage a household. She looks pretty, but she acts like a vixen. She's lazy and good-for-nothing, staying at home all the time, never leaving the house. She's completely bewitched by that child."
This doctor from Chang'an, ever since your sister appeared, he seems like a completely different person. He stopped going to work, took more than half a year off, and moved into this old building. No matter how we neighbors try to persuade him, we can't calm him down. If we get angry, he yells at us and tries to kick us out. And now, this has happened. The two of them were inseparable, and a few days ago, the man suddenly went crazy. I heard he even tried to drown himself, all because of your sister…”
So he really had an accident. Wan'er sighed, her heart heavy. After all, they were colleagues.
"So, who's left in their family now?"
