"Sigh, after this happened, his mother, who originally lived with him, was taken back to the countryside by relatives to celebrate the New Year."
Now, there's only one lock left in the house, and I have the key. Sigh, we've been neighbors all our lives..." The old man shook his head and sighed repeatedly.
"Then, my sister, did she never come back?"
"Your sister disappeared a long time ago. How could she possibly come back? She swindled all his money, drove him insane, and never showed up again. That woman is truly inhuman."
The old man was so angry that he cursed a few times, but when he saw Wan'er looking at him, he felt a little embarrassed when he thought about Wan'er's identity.
“Sir, you’re right, she really isn’t human.” Wan’er nodded, without any hint of blame. “How about this, we’d like to go to her house and see if we can find any clues…”
“Young lady, young man, aren’t you afraid? That house has a lot of eerie energy.” As the old man said this, he glanced at Mercury, his expression suddenly becoming strange. He lowered his voice, moved closer to Wan’er, but turned his body in another direction, glancing at the right side of his house. “These past two days, even in broad daylight, I seem to hear strange noises coming from inside.”
“It’s alright, we’re not afraid,” Mercury, who hadn’t spoken until now, stepped forward and patted the old man’s chest. “Don’t worry, I’m here. I’m a trained fighter, I can protect her.”
"Alright, you went voluntarily." The old man sighed, stepped onto his own stairs, took a golden key from inside a shoe hanging on the wall, and turned around.
He beckoned the two to follow him to the right side of his building, along a path that led uphill to a flat area above a steep slope.
There was a small open space in front of the flat ground, and behind it stood an old building. On the side wall of the old building, there was a large "demolish" sign. Looking at the steps in front of it, there were some old and broken supplies thrown on them.
This is a three-story building with roughly three rooms per floor and tightly closed doors and windows. From the outside, the building's front walls are almost entirely yellowed, with the occasional black mark.
The old man walked to the main entrance on the right, inserted a gold key he had been holding into the keyhole, turned it, and opened the door. A blast of cold air rushed out, and the old man ducked behind it...
What catches the eye is a new sofa, coffee table, television...
The interior was quite nicely decorated, though a bit messy, with all sorts of men's and women's clothes scattered everywhere. Liu Chang'an must have been living what he considered a blissful life for a while.
"If you're going back, make sure to close the door behind you. I won't keep you company any longer." The old man stood by the door, watching them walk in, and then said, "Well, you can take your time looking around. I'll go back first. My son and daughter-in-law will be back soon."
"Thank you, sir," Wan'er called out to the door. "Knock knock..." The old man ran really fast; by the time Wan'er turned to look at the door, he had already disappeared.
"That old man is such a coward," Mercury sneered, then instructed Wan'er, "Here's what we'll do: I'll go upstairs while you stay downstairs, and check what else is in the room."
“Okay,” Wan’er nodded in agreement, then walked towards the room on the left, proceeding from the main entrance to check each room one by one…
Pushing open the leftmost door, a foul stench wafted out, and it was vaguely visible as a cluttered room. "Wuu wuu..." Wan'er heard faint sounds coming from inside.
