Chapter 29. [Second Update] "She found me."...

Is this even human language?

Although she knew He Yan was joking, Nana still keenly grasped the key word, "Wait, what do you mean by 'again'? Brother Yan, God is my witness, this is the first time I've asked you this!"

Wen Xue was caught red-handed, caught between Li Jingru and Nana. She felt pitiful and helpless. She weakly confessed, "...I asked you not long ago, I'm sorry."

Li Jingru laughed loudly, "You two stay away from me, you're lowering my IQ."

I've seen honest people before, but I've never seen anyone this honest.

After staring at Wen Xue for a moment, Nana burst out laughing, leaned close to her ear, and whispered something that could be heard by everyone in the carriage: "You asked? What did he answer?"

Anyway, she didn't believe that Brother Yan would say something as heartless as "If you ask such a brainless question again, I'll dock your pay."

Wen Xue cautiously peeked at He Yan in the driver's seat again.

Even though she could only see his profile, she knew he wasn't angry.

He seems to never get angry with her.

“He said…” she lowered her voice, replying in a breathy tone, “Nothing like that, we’re just friends.”

As soon as the light turned green, He Yan stepped on the gas, but seemingly without controlling the force, causing the two people whispering in the back seat to lurch forward due to inertia.

"..."

Wen Xue, who always had a good temper, pursed her lips and said nothing.

Nana was furious but dared not speak out. In fact, before Wen Xue arrived, even the carefree Li Jingru would not have pried into his private affairs. Firstly, everyone in the company knew that he knew a lot of people from all walks of life, but he was only close to a few women, and none of them could spark a romance with him. Secondly, although he was kind to everyone around him, his personality made it seem inappropriate to joke with him like that.

Li Jingru laughed gleefully, then changed the subject, "Little sister, after you go back to school, I'll definitely be the one who misses you the most."

That's right, she's going back to the hard life of doing the work of two people all by herself.

"I'll miss you too." Wen Xue knew how much Li Jingru had helped her. Remembering something, her eyes lit up, and she awkwardly rummaged through the pocket of her thick down jacket to find her phone. "Sister Jing, can you record your whistling for me?"

Strangely enough, every time Li Jingru whistled, she would quickly concentrate.

Li Jingru was silent for a moment, then burst into laughter.

The three in the back row found a new source of amusement. Li Jingru held up Wen Xue's phone, pressed the record button, and started playing the record continuously. After a pause, she asked, "How about I play a song for you?"

"May I?"

"Of course, absolutely!"

Li Jingru pondered for a moment, took a deep breath, and began to play a song. Wen Xue had only listened to two lines when she turned her head to look at her in disbelief. Li Jingru was playing the only song she had sung at the karaoke bar that day, and she still remembered it!

Intermittent whistling could be heard in the carriage.

While Li Jingru was catching her breath, He Yan thought the recording was over and said in a deep voice, "Let me see if there are any parking spaces outside the south gate. If not, I'll drop you off at the gate first."

Li Jingru pressed the end button speechlessly and said, "Boss He, I haven't finished recording yet!"

Does he know how much lung capacity it takes to play a song?

"It's okay." Wen Xue took the phone and saved the recorded segment. "This is fine."

He Yan paused. "Okay, I won't say anything. You can continue."

Nana said with a bitter face, "Sister Jing, how about we play it next time? I feel like I need to go to the toilet whenever I hear you play it."

My bladder is about to burst...

Li Jingru was furious.

Parking spaces near universities are always hard to find; it's always a matter of luck. This time, He Yan successfully found a parking space. Wen Xue had much more luggage than during the winter break, all of which she had acquired during this period.

Li Jingru had expected a lot of luggage, but she didn't expect this much. She was almost speechless with surprise. Pointing to the two cans of milk powder, several rolls of toilet paper, various toiletries in the bucket, and a huge amount of snacks, dried fruits, and chocolates in the trunk, she asked, "Little sister, are you planning to give up your studies and go into business, opening a small shop in your dormitory?"

Wen Xue glanced quickly at the instigator.

She said several times that there was no need to buy so much, and besides, the school supermarket had all these things.

But he wouldn't listen to anything, and when he came out of the supermarket, his shopping cart was completely full.

He Yan coughed lightly, feeling a little awkward, and said, "Thank you for your help."

The group entered the school through the south gate with their luggage. As He Yan had expected, he could only stop at the gate. The aunties in the girls' dormitory were very responsible and would not let a man in just because he said "I am a parent".

With Li Jingru and Nana around, he can feel much more at ease.

The three chatted quietly as they went upstairs. The sun was shining brightly today, making the room exceptionally bright. He Yan stood outside the glass door and could vaguely see Wen Xue's smiling eyes as she turned her head to talk to Nana next to her.

He also remembered her worried eyes when he picked her up at the beginning of winter vacation.

She is slowly recovering, and that's what he wanted to see.

Noticing the dormitory supervisor's wary gaze, he paused, no longer standing at the entrance, but stepping down the steps and walking away. This area consisted entirely of girls' dormitories. He stood in front of the flower bed for a while, watching the students coming and going, a thought that had been suppressed for a long time resurfacing deep within him. With a serious expression, he walked out and came to a main road, stopping a young man carrying a backpack and asking, "Excuse me, how do I get to the School of Information Science?"

He had only visited this university once in his past life.

That time, Wu Yuejiang was the one who brought Wen Xue to school, and he even took care of sorting out He Heng's belongings left in the dormitory.

For several years, he would deliberately avoid this place.

The girls' dormitory was bustling with activity. Some students had returned to school early, and everyone was happy to see each other after a winter break. Ye Manni was taking a lipstick set out of her suitcase, intending to give one to each of her roommates.

Suddenly, she heard laughter and chatter outside the door. Turning her head, she saw a completely unfamiliar girl. She opened her mouth, wanting to tell them they had the wrong address, but the next moment, Wen Xue came over. The two looked at each other, and she was overjoyed: "Wen Xue!"

It was at this moment that she noticed the change in Wen Xue.

His complexion has visibly improved a lot.

Not only that, the smile on her face wasn't forced, but came from the heart. She thought she had seen Wen Xue from her freshman year, Wen Xue before she lost He Heng.

"Manny, it's been a long time."

Wen Xue also came to greet her, and Ye Manni was happy and excited, so she hugged her tightly.

She paused for a few seconds, her eyes crinkling into a smile.

Ye Manni quickly let go of her and looked at the two people blocking the door with a puzzled expression. Wen Xue hurriedly said, "Sister Jing, Nana, let me introduce you. This is my roommate, Ye Manni."

“Manny,” Wen Xue said carefully, “this is He Yan’s colleague from his company. They’ve been very kind to me and came to see me off today.”

Ye Manni was absolutely allergic to the surname "He". She said "Oh" and smiled, "Hello."

Li Jingru and Nana both nodded reservedly.

The two of them squeezed in and quickly helped Wenxue pack her luggage.

Nana was afraid of showing her timidity, but she couldn't help but be excited and whispered, "This is my first time entering a university dormitory!"

"Then come visit me often when you have time," Wen Xue smiled. "I can show you around; our campus is quite big."

"must!"

The three of them tidied up quickly, and in no time they had laid out the clean and sun-dried sheets and blankets. After finishing, Wen Xue was worried that they would feel uncomfortable, so after telling Ye Manni, she slung her bag over her shoulder and took Li Jingru and Nana's arms as they went downstairs and left the dormitory.

Three pairs of eyes scanned the area, but no one saw He Yan.

"Could it be that they've left?" Nana covered her mouth.

Wen Xue took out her phone and dialed a number, not forgetting to reassure her, "No, he should be around here."

However, the call went unanswered, leaving her puzzled.

Suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind, a thought that pierced her heart like a needle, making her grip her phone tightly, while still maintaining a gentle smile on her face. "How about this, we split up, you go and queue up to buy milk tea first," she said, turning to the side to take out her wallet from her bag and hand it to Nana, "I'll go find him."

Nana tried to push the wallet away, but Li Jingru took it. "Okay, I won't be polite with you. But do you know where he went?"

Wen Xue lowered her eyelashes, concealing her sadness, nodded, and said softly, "I roughly know."

The milk tea shop was near the south gate where they parked. When they got out of the car, there was a long queue. Li Jingru put her arm around Nana and walked in that direction, while Wen Xue looked around to make sure they hadn't gone the wrong way. Then she turned around and walked down another road.

She had walked this road countless times.

The map is in her heart, so she will never get lost no matter what.

Not wanting to be recognized by any of He Heng's classmates, she unconsciously tugged at her scarf, covering half her face as she walked forward with her head down. Until, from a distance of more than ten meters, she saw a figure that was both familiar and abrupt. Perhaps that was how she perceived him; he was so abrupt that everyone else's figures blurred, while only his was clear.

She knew he would be here.

She quickened her pace to run over and call him, but suddenly she stopped abruptly, and the smile on her lips slowly froze.

He Yan, who was standing to the side of her, was completely absorbed in his own world and did not immediately notice that she was not far away, and his gaze was following someone walking from left to right.

She looked over and saw two young students with their arms around each other, chatting and laughing.

One of them was similar in build and age to He Heng.

She took a few steps back, restraining herself from disturbing the older brother who was imagining what his younger brother would be like if he were still alive, through the lens of a stranger.

He Yan came to his senses and realized that he had been there for a long time. He was worried that Wen Xue would be anxious if they came downstairs after they finished packing and couldn't find him. He wanted to check the time and make a call to ask. He reached into his pocket, found his phone, and looked down to see Li Jingru's caller ID flashing on the screen.

He frowned. Why was his phone silent? He answered it a second before it automatically hung up, and Li Jingru's voice came from the other end: "Wen Xue found you? Hurry up, it'll probably be our turn in ten minutes, come quickly!"

Wen Xue is looking for him?

Holding his phone, He Yan's gaze drifted through the crowd and inadvertently landed on the graceful figure a dozen meters away.

She stood there quietly, bathed in sunlight, which cast a soft, dappled glow upon her. Strangely, even from a distance, her features were somewhat blurred, and he couldn't quite make out her eyes or expression, yet he could still sense her worry.

What's even stranger is that, despite being the vulnerable one, she still silently protected him.

"Hello??" Li Jingru didn't get a reply and thought her phone had no signal, so she called out.

He Yan said in a low voice, "Yes, she found me."
