Chapter 63 Encountering Weirdos Every Day
Bai Fengqi followed Song Hongjiao out of Du Ruoxia's house with a worried look in his eyes, but Du Ruoxia remained calm.
As Du Ruoxia had predicted, Yang Zeyan developed a fever in the afternoon.
While giving him the medicine, Du Ruoxia also tried the most basic method to lower his fever, but Yang Zeyan's fever remained high.
"You really know how to make things difficult for me," Du Ruoxia said helplessly.
Yang Zeyan had a recurring fever all night, and Du Ruoxia was also very busy.
When Yang Zeyan had a fever, he held onto Du Ruoxia and kept calling out something. Du Ruoxia couldn't hear him and didn't care. She kept wiping his body.
She only slept for a little over two hours before getting up, and finally breathed a sigh of relief once she confirmed that Yang Zeyan's fever had subsided.
Du Ruoxia herself didn't realize that she had wanted Yang Zeyan to suffer, but instead, she was the one who ended up getting tired.
She prepared breakfast for Yang Zeyan before leaving the house; Yang Zeyan was fast asleep at that time.
Du Ruoxia came out of the family compound early in the morning, and the soldiers at the gate all looked at her with respect.
Du Ruoxia smiled back while holding up her umbrella. After what happened yesterday, her reputation had probably already spread throughout the military.
Du Ruoxia walked out through the rain, followed by a group of women from the compound who hurried up behind her.
Du Ruoxia instinctively felt that she had left at the wrong time. She was already so late, and everyone else had also been delayed in leaving today because of the rain.
"Yang Tuan's wife, are you going to buy groceries too?" an older woman greeted Du Ruoxia.
Du Ruoxia didn't recognize this expert, but she recognized the people behind her. However, the others were a little scared and kept their distance from Du Ruoxia.
"I don't buy groceries, and I don't know how to cook," Du Ruoxia replied calmly.
The woman seemed to have heard something outrageous; her eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
"That won't do. Women are supposed to be obedient to their husbands and follow the four virtues. Your husband is a regimental commander, so you have to serve him well!" The aunt looked disapproving.
Not stopping after she finished speaking, she grabbed Du Ruoxia and quickly walked forward, leaving Du Ruoxia somewhat bewildered.
"What?" she asked in surprise.
"What are you doing? My husband said Commander Yang was injured yesterday. I'm taking you to buy some fish and meat to help him recover!" The woman pulled Du Ruoxia forward without saying another word.
Du Ruoxia nearly fell. She grabbed the older woman with all her might and looked back at the others, who all shook their heads in fear.
"Who is your husband?" Du Ruoxia asked, puzzled.
Upon hearing this, the woman immediately stopped, turned around, and looked at the others with an arrogant expression, "My husband is the deputy regimental commander, just like your regimental commander!"
Du Ruoxia understood; no wonder this woman was so bold and disregarded the wishes of others.
"It's not the same in a way. My husband has a long service record, and the family compound he was allocated is three stories high, while yours is only two stories high."
Feelings are meant to be shown off.
"Take it easy, your man is injured, don't do any exercise!" The aunt glanced at Du Ruoxia's waist with envy.
The aunt looked proud but also regretful. Du Ruoxia was puzzled. Yang Zeyan had burned the bed, so what kind of exercise could he do?
"It's certainly not as good as your house. Our two-story house is enough for us." Du Ruoxia looked embarrassed and just wanted to get rid of this aunt as soon as possible.
“Enough? Zhang Mingwen is an instructor, and he lives in the same house as you. Your Yang Tuan’s house is really not that nice.” The aunt looked troubled.
Du Ruoxia understood that this meant Yang Zeyan's abilities were inferior to Zhang Mingwen's. Seeing that the aunt already had gray hair, Du Ruoxia lowered her eyes.
"Well, you can only eat as much as your appetite allows. You can't get fat in one bite. He's young, so he can take his time." Du Ruoxia emphasized the word "young," her face still showing a calm expression.
"Although your Yang Tuan is younger than our Wang Yao, now that he's married, he'll inevitably be tied down by his family, making it harder for him to climb the social ladder!" The auntie continued her nagging.
Du Ruoxia pursed her lips. This was the first time she had ever seen someone so subtly criticize Yang Zeyan while simultaneously revealing her own shortcomings.
"I don't think so. The leader said that once you start a family, things will naturally get better."
"Besides, while you're young, you can still be picky. When you get older, the girls will find you undesirable. I'm telling you, Auntie, you should hurry up and arrange your son's marriage. After all, a soldier's youth doesn't last long."
Du Ruoxia appeared to be very understanding, leaving the others behind her speechless. They were astonished to see that she could be so cowardly.
Wang Hao's mother has boasted to them countless times. She went back to her hometown not long ago, and after only a few days of peace and quiet, she came back again.
Today, her eyes lit up when she saw Du Ruoxia's figure, and when she saw Du Ruoxia's face, she wished she could drag her home to be her son's wife.
Unfortunately, her companions said that this was Yang Zeyan's wife. Yang Zeyan was also a regimental commander and lived next door to Song Hongjiao. Aunt Wang was furious and immediately cursed her as a vixen.
After Du Ruoxia finished speaking, she quickly shook off the woman's hand, got on her bicycle, but was pulled back by the aunt.
"Didn't I tell you I'd take you grocery shopping? You can't go to the library today!"
Du Ruoxia was speechless; it seemed this person was determined to cause trouble for her.
"Thank you for your kindness, but I have something to do at the library today. Let's do the grocery shopping another day. My husband is injured and can't cook either," Du Ruoxia refused expressionlessly.
Everyone on the bus stared at Du Ruoxia in shock. She had actually said that Yang Zeyan was cooking for her.
"Oh my god, how can a man cook for a woman? He's like a vixen, how has he bewitched Commander Yang!" The aunt slapped her thigh and shouted.
Du Ruoxia was shocked. This reaction was excessive. This was between her and Yang Zeyan. They were meddling too much!
"Everyone, tell me, it's one thing to rely on Yang Tuan for food, but to depend on Yang Tuan for everything, isn't this like Daji reincarnated!" The aunt kept accusing Du Ruoxia of all sorts of crimes.
"Auntie, why are you meddling in other people's business?"
Xu Yan knew that Aunt Wang was difficult to deal with, and felt somewhat indignant on her behalf.
"How can I not care? That's the head of the national delegation, the hope of the people. We can't let a lazy, good-for-nothing woman ruin him!" the aunt shouted, hands on her hips.
Du Ruoxia sighed, realizing she had to check the calendar before going out, as she encountered only oddballs every day.
Just when Hu's wife finally stopped bothering him, another one, Aunt Wang, showed up.
"Auntie, I have to go to work. If you stop me, I'll be late!" Du Ruoxia said, her face darkening as she tried her best to be patient.
"You're going to work? I don't believe it. They say you're a former educated youth sent to the countryside, and that's why Yang Tuan took a liking to you. What organization would dare to hire you!" Aunt Wang shouted at Du Ruoxia.
“How dare you talk like that? She’s just a woman who works at the library. Why do you, a woman from the same compound, have so much to say?”
"What do you know, you woman who does housework and stays in the kitchen all day? This comrade is educated, he has a degree and a job!"
"Besides, what business is it of yours what happens between a husband and wife? You live by the sea, why are you meddling in other people's affairs?"
More and more people are starting to dislike Aunt Wang.
My aunt was so angry that her face turned red. After failing to provoke Du Ruoxia, she gritted her teeth.
Du Ruoxia remained calm, saying that if she continued talking, she wouldn't need to leave the house, as she would have to come back to take care of Yang Zeyan later.
