Chapter 64 is about a husband and wife working together harmoniously.
Upon arriving at the library, Director Xin stopped Du Ruoxia, looking at her with a nervous expression.
Du Ruoxia smiled helplessly, "I'm fine, it's not me who's in trouble."
Director Xin breathed a sigh of relief. "It's good that you're alright. What would I have done if something had happened to you?"
Du Ruoxia remained silent, but judging from his words, he seemed to want to cling to her.
"I noticed you weren't here this morning, and I thought something had happened to you. I was even thinking of calling to check on you," Director Xin explained.
Du Ruoxia nodded, "Give me a few days' worth. I won't have time to come these next few days because my man is in trouble."
Director Xin immediately became anxious, "Your man was injured yesterday? If you have to take care of him, do you still have time to translate?"
Du Ruoxia looked at him without saying a word, and Director Xin awkwardly avoided her gaze.
"I have a task to complete; my boss said he needs that many, and I can't do anything about it."
Du Ruoxia chuckled, "Tell me, let me see how much you've been producing in the last two weeks."
Director Xin dared not look at Du Ruoxia. His eyes flickered, and finally he raised three fingers.
Du Ruoxia closed her eyes helplessly; they were treating her like a perpetual motion machine!
"Are you planning to make me work day and night for you?" Du Ruoxia said coldly.
Director Xin shrank back, intimidated by Du Ruoxia's gaze despite being the leader.
“I set the schedule according to your original pace, and I even cleared out the weekend for you,” Director Xin replied softly.
"Thank you so much!" Du Ruoxia said through gritted teeth. "Go get a few days' worth of materials and I'll take them back with me."
She originally wanted to make money while having the freedom to choose her own time, but now she has become a pawn of capitalists.
"By the way, please settle my previous royalties first, I need them now," Du Ruoxia called out to Director Xin.
Director Xin was quite generous. Knowing that Du Ruoxia's man was injured and needed money, he didn't skimp on anything and even gave her an extra 20 yuan as a consolation payment.
Du Ruoxia readily accepted; free money is free money, so why not take it?
Du Ruoxia didn't stay in the library for long. She took the materials and left. Director Xin even gave her a bag to put the materials in.
As she left the library, she felt something was wrong; the feeling of being followed returned.
Du Ruoxia's eyes sharpened; this was a remnant of the evil forces yet to be eliminated.
She followed the same method, leading the person into a dead end, but the person did not come out, leaving Du Ruoxia puzzled.
"Who goes there? Come out!" Du Ruoxia shouted into the alley.
But no matter how much Du Ruoxia called out, the person never came out, and Du Ruoxia couldn't even sense the person's presence.
With these questions in mind, Du Ruoxia returned home. After filling her stomach, she brought Yang Zeyan a boxed lunch.
When she got home, she found her house unusually lively, with the front door open.
Du Ruoxia stood at the door with a puzzled look on her face. Inside, Zhao Jiajun, Bai Fengqi, Peng Guobin, and several other unfamiliar faces were sitting.
Yang Zeyan was also sitting on the sofa, with bowls and water glasses on the table, clearly not enough to make up the numbers.
"Oh, the busy man is back!" Peng Guobin's surprised voice rang out, his tone laced with sarcasm.
The others' eyes lit up when they saw Du Ruoxia, and their gazes toward Yang Zeyan became even more envious.
"Hello everyone!" Du Ruoxia walked in and greeted them with a smile.
Yang Zeyan's superior, Division Commander Xiao, looked at Du Ruoxia with a smile, "Comrade Du, you must have gone to buy groceries!"
Yang Zeyan looked over curiously, a smile on his face.
Du Ruoxia paused, her hand holding the bag stopped; this wasn't vegetables, it was money.
"No, I don't know how to cook, so I won't ruin the kitchen." Du Ruoxia's tone was calm, as if she were stating something very ordinary.
Everyone looked at Du Ruoxia with incomprehension and disapproval, but Du Ruoxia just smiled and didn't feel embarrassed.
"It's normal for your daughter not to know how to cook. My daughter can't either. Everyone is reluctant to let her cook. It's different when you're pampered by your family." Commander Xiao laughed to ease the awkwardness.
“No one dotes on me, and my parents favor boys over girls,” Du Ruoxia replied calmly.
Now even Commander Xiao was at a loss for words. Du Ruoxia's straightforward personality was quite different from Yang Zeyan's!
"We've had enough to sit for now, so we won't disturb you two any longer. We'll head back now!" Commander Xiao said, and everyone stood up.
Du Ruoxia looked at the table full of fruit and candy, kept a few, and picked up the rest.
"You're too kind. You came to see him and bought so much stuff. My husband and I can't eat that much, and it will spoil if we leave it for too long. Take some back for the kids." Du Ruoxia stuffed the food directly into Peng Guobin's arms.
Commander Xiao looked at Du Ruoxia, who was smiling from ear to ear, and thought to himself that although this girl wasn't very sweet-talking, she was quite good at getting along with people.
Peng Guobin stared blankly at the thing in his arms. He was unmarried and had no children, so why was he giving it to him?
"Comrade Du is right. We didn't think that far ahead. You two can't eat that much," Commander Xiao said with a smile.
Peng Guobin was caught in a dilemma, unsure whether to accept it or not. Everyone else had family members, so why was he given a bachelor?
“Commander Xiao, these…” Peng Guobin looked at Commander Xiao and said helplessly.
"Take this and give some to their family," Commander Xiao ordered directly.
Peng Guobin's face immediately fell; this was causing him to suffer the pain of three families.
Du Ruoxia took the boxed lunch out of the bag after they had walked away. "I brought you some food, just eat this."
Yang Zeyan looked at her quietly, his handsome face almost unable to contain his excitement.
"What are you looking at? Laugh if you want. I'm not a housewife." Du Ruoxia rolled her eyes.
“No, you don’t need to make yourself sound so worthless. You’re clearly not,” Yang Zeyan said earnestly.
Du Ruoxia tilted her head and thought for a few seconds before speaking, "That won't do. The more useless I am, the happier they will be, and the less guarded they will be towards you."
Du Ruoxia thought of Wang Yao's wife, that Aunt Wang. Wang Yao was a deputy regimental commander, and his family was so domineering. It seemed that Yang Zeyan was not very respected in the army.
"No matter what your current situation is like, you will have a bright future!" Du Ruoxia comforted Yang Zeyan.
Yang Zeyan looked bewildered. "What kind of mess have I made?"
Du Ruoxia smiled awkwardly and shook her head. Let's just forget about saying such hurtful things!
"It's nothing, I just meant that everyone should have ideals, what if they come true!" Du Ruoxia quickly changed her words in reply.
Yang Zeyan nodded in agreement upon hearing this; he too had ideals.
"What is your ideal?" Yang Zeyan looked intently at Du Ruoxia.
Du Ruoxia froze upon hearing this. Her ideal?
"Hmm, I haven't thought about that yet." Du Ruoxia set out the food for Yang Zeyan and sat down opposite him.
"Not a doctor?" Yang Zeyan asked, seemingly casually.
Du Ruoxia was taken aback. Did her becoming a doctor have anything to do with her ideals?
She recalled her initial reason for studying medicine: she was too poor, and she studied desperately in order to win a scholarship.
Both medical school and teacher training were tuition-free, but she ultimately chose medicine. She then devoted herself to studying it and developed a great deal of skill.
"Maybe, studying medicine to save lives," Du Ruoxia replied with a smile.
“Yes, I go to the battlefield to defend our country, and you use your scalpel to treat and save lives,” Yang Zeyan added, causing Du Ruoxia to blush instantly.
Yang Zeyan spoke of husband and wife being in harmony so casually!
