Chapter 66 The ban has been lifted.
Yang Zeyan was even more speechless. Du Ruoxia's words were practically saying that he wasn't injured!
"Wife, I'm going to check on Xilan City. Aren't you worried too?" Yang Zeyan could only say this helplessly.
“Yes, our country can’t do without you,” Du Ruoxia said, glancing at Yang Zeyan.
She really shouldn't have told Yang Zeyan; she should have gone to Commander Xiao instead, at least to nip Yang Zeyan's overconfident idea in the bud.
"Stop dreaming. Anyone can go, but you can't!" Du Ruoxia said seriously to Yang Zeyan as she stood up.
"By the way, from today onwards, if you leave this room without my permission, I will file a report to terminate our relationship. I can't control you anymore, so you'd better find someone else." Du Ruoxia left these words before closing the door.
A thin layer of sweat appeared on Yang Zeyan's forehead, and upon closer inspection, his knuckles were stiff.
He lowered his head in thought, wondering why Du Ruoxia was so angry.
Yang Zeyan was unaware, but Du Ruoxia knew perfectly well that if Yang Zeyan went to Xilan City in his current state, he would most likely never return.
She had seen real-time images of the floods in Xilan City when she was in school. The floodwaters that went above the rooftops were deadly, especially since none of them had any disaster relief experience.
With less than ten days until the incident in Xilan City, Du Ruoxia devoted all her time to translation, working day and night for three consecutive days to finish the manuscript.
She managed to increase her daily output from 30,000 to 50,000, and only needed to sleep for four hours.
On the third night, Yang Zeyan noticed that something was wrong with her; her eyes were extremely dark and her complexion was terrible.
"Xiaxia, stop and rest for a bit, don't overwork yourself," Yang Zeyan said with concern.
Du Ruoxia had been rushing to finish her manuscript for several days in a row, and she couldn't even be bothered to look up at Yang Zeyan.
"I'll ask Song Hongjiao to make more. I'm going to take a nap. You can eat next door." Du Ruoxia said and then fell asleep.
Yang Zeyan watched her fall asleep instantly and sighed silently. He stayed by her bedside, watching her sleep, while he looked at the densely written documents Du Ruoxia had written.
Yang Zeyan looked at the thick stack of papers and the foreign language materials, his forehead throbbing. He couldn't believe that Du Ruoxia had completed so much in just a few days.
When Du Ruoxia woke up again, it was still dark. She looked at the unfinished manuscripts and realized there weren't many left!
By daybreak, Du Ruoxia had finished all the manuscripts.
As soon as she opened the door, Yang Zeyan opened his eyes.
"Xiaxia, you're awake?" He asked cheerfully, quickly standing up.
Du Ruoxia saw that he moved quickly, which meant that he had been resting well at home these past few days.
"I'd like to get breakfast, is that alright?" Yang Zeyan asked cautiously.
Du Ruoxia blinked; she was just about to leave.
"No need to call, I need to go to the library to hand in some materials. Let's go eat together." Du Ruoxia said, turning around to change her clothes.
"So, is my ban lifted?" Yang Zeyan asked cautiously.
Du Ruoxia smiled and then brought up the ban.
"Yes, you could say that." Du Ruoxia nodded and went inside.
She didn't see the nervous look on Yang Zeyan's face, and naturally missed the way he looked down in thought.
It was Du Ruoxia's first time eating at the compound's canteen, and she was surprised to find it so lively so early in the morning, and full of soldiers.
"So many people!" Du Ruoxia exclaimed.
“Yes, they just finished training,” Yang Zeyan replied.
Du Ruoxia understood, and she chose a shorter line, but Yang Zeyan immediately pulled her to another, longer line.
"There are fewer people there, let's go there." Du Ruoxia refused and pulled Yang Zeyan to go back.
“It’s spicy there, you’re not used to it.” Yang Zeyan pulled her back.
Du Ruoxia paused, realizing that her body couldn't tolerate any bad habits.
Du Ruoxia looked at the soldiers with envy. She used to be able to eat spicy food and couldn't live without it. She thought she should take it slow.
Du Ruoxia and Yang Zeyan frequently ran into acquaintances while queuing, and Du Ruoxia kept smiling apologetically.
She decided that she would no longer come to the cafeteria with Yang Zeyan!
She ordered three eggs, two fried dough sticks, and four bowls of lean meat porridge, which drew envious glances from the people around her.
Du Ruoxia knew that her purchase was the only one in the entire cafeteria; most of them only ordered one serving.
"Eat more, you need to replenish your blood after losing so much." Du Ruoxia pushed two eggs directly to Yang Zeyan.
Yang Zeyan was very obedient and ate everything as Du Ruoxia suggested.
After Du Ruoxia finished eating, she noticed that the soldiers hadn't left yet. She thought to herself that they had plenty of time to eat, unlike her own military training days.
"I'm going to the library first. You go home and wait for me obediently," Du Ruoxia said, getting up to instruct Yang Zeyan.
Yang Zeyan smiled broadly, "I must obey my wife's orders! Be careful on the road, my wife!"
Du Ruoxia blushed. With so many people around, she didn't even pay attention. She fled in panic.
As soon as Du Ruoxia left, people started moving around in the cafeteria, but she didn't notice as she was in a hurry.
It started raining heavily halfway there, and Du Ruoxia's sandals were quickly soaked.
When she arrived at the bus stop, Du Ruoxia breathed a sigh of relief, as she did not encounter the women's group from the compound.
"It's raining so hard, young lady, won't you wait a little longer?" the driver said to Du Ruoxia.
This driver was different from the previous one, and she guessed that there was more than one driver on this route, probably to accommodate the troops.
"I can't wait any longer. This rain started suddenly, and there's no time to hide," Du Ruoxia replied with a smile.
The driver sighed, "It's alright here, but you don't know about my colleague Xu's hometown, the mountains there collapsed!"
The driver didn't know what a landslide was; he only knew that the mountain had collapsed and that it was very serious.
Du Ruoxia hadn't expected the situation in Xilan City to be so serious; she clearly remembered that it was still a few days before the outbreak.
"Then have Master Xu call home and tell his family to pack up and be ready to leave at any time," Du Ruoxia said, lowering her eyes.
"How can we move them? Those chickens, cows, and pigs are all livestock. How can we bear to part with them? They're all trying to survive," the driver sighed.
Du Ruoxia's breath hitched. It was probably because of this that many people were reluctant to leave back then, which ultimately led to such a tragic ending.
"Why don't we take the livestock with us now and travel slowly? We could manage if all the roads are blocked, otherwise we won't be able to get through," Du Ruoxia said seriously.
The driver fell into thought after hearing this, and Du Ruoxia didn't say anything more. She found a seat by the window and sat down.
The driver waited at the bus stop for a while, but because the rain was too heavy and no one came, he started the bus and left.
Du Ruoxia was the first to enter the library today, and the old man guarding the door recognized her and let her in immediately.
She put the materials away and then took out new ones to translate. By the time Director Xin arrived, she had already completed 10,000 words.
"I thought it would take you a week, how come it's so fast?" Director Xin looked surprised and somewhat incredulous.
"I worked day and night to finish the manuscript, so could you consider giving me a little more pay for all the hard work I've put in?" Du Ruoxia said calmly.
Director Xin took the translated materials from her and saw that everything was finished. He looked at Du Ruoxia in disbelief.
"You did all of this by yourself? Do you have anyone in your family who can translate?"
