Chapter 50 Don't Take Risks for My Job
It was past 2 p.m. when I came out of the library, and it was drizzling outside.
There weren't many people on the street. Du Ruoxia didn't bring an umbrella and ran towards the small shop across the street in the light drizzle.
"Boss, I'd like an umbrella," Du Ruoxia said directly.
The shopkeeper, looking at the rain outside, happily handed it to her, saying, "Young lady, once I sell something, there are no returns. Don't wait until the rain stops so you can return it."
Du Ruoxia smiled and shook her head. She needed an umbrella; it could also be used as a weapon!
Du Ruoxia walked aimlessly down the street, holding an umbrella. She didn't buy anything, just looked around.
Around three or four in the afternoon, Du Ruoxia felt that the time for their first meeting was about right, so she started walking towards a secluded place.
The floors here are mostly made of tiles, and although it rained, the streets didn't look dirty.
There were still many people in the downtown area, and they didn't seem to care about the rain, as if they had gotten used to the continuous drizzle in summer.
As Du Ruoxia walked, she reached an empty alley. She could already feel her tail behind her. She tugged at the corner of her mouth and continued walking quickly forward. She turned a corner, which led to a dead end.
"Hmph, I thought she was some kind of cheap woman, but she's a beauty. We brothers are in luck today!" A roguish voice rang out.
Du Ruoxia stopped in the alley and turned around to look. Behind her were several thugs, the leader of whom was holding a pipe.
"Brothers, why are you all following me?" Du Ruoxia asked genuinely.
The group laughed loudly, "Little girl, of all people to offend, you had to offend our young lady. You're in for a world of hurt."
"You're not bad looking either. Why don't you come with us and serve us well so you won't have to suffer?" the other men said lewdly.
"I'm innocent! Who is your young lady? I don't know!" Du Ruoxia stepped back, revealing a terrified expression.
"Don't scare the beauty, I'll handle this. Our young lady is Zhou Mengrou, and our boss wouldn't even dare to touch a hair on her head!" the leader said with a crooked mouth.
"Your boss? Who is your boss? I'll apologize to her, can you help me?" Du Ruoxia looked at the group pitifully.
Seeing her terrified expression, the group exchanged glances and revealed satisfied looks. The leader then sized Du Ruoxia up and down.
"It's not impossible. I'll put in a good word for you with the young lady. How will you thank me?" The man's lips curled into a smirk as he looked at Du Ruoxia with a blatant gaze.
Du Ruoxia raised her hand to smooth the hair on her forehead; the wound there was no longer noticeable. She tried to imitate the alluring charm of the characters on TV.
"Big brother, what are you saying? How do you want me to thank you?" Du Ruoxia asked earnestly.
"It's not a difficult thing, it's just that the older brother can't sleep alone at night and needs his younger sister to comfort him." The leader waved his hands as he approached Du Ruoxia.
The man's wicked words made Du Ruoxia lose her virginity. She squeezed the umbrella in her hand. Although she wasn't very strong, she knew the body's defenses well and knew exactly where to hit to inflict excruciating pain. "I'll serve you, you bastard!"
Du Ruoxia immediately closed the umbrella and, holding it up, aimed it at the man's crotch and spleen.
"ah!"
A deafening wail rang out, and everyone turned to look at the man.
"Boss, boss, how are you?" The man's henchman rushed over anxiously to check on him.
The men were too busy checking on the leader's injuries to react to what had happened, and had no idea that Du Ruoxia would continue her attack.
Du Ruoxia changed her gesture and struck the group, causing them to howl in pain.
Within two minutes, several men were lying on the ground.
At first glance, there were no obvious wounds on the surface, but the person was clutching their body and wailing.
"And what kind of trash are you now? A bunch of parasites and scum!" Du Ruoxia crossed her arms and looked down at the group.
The leader covered his lower body and curled up, but he could still stick out his hand and point at Du Ruoxia, looking like he was about to say something threatening again.
"I'm so thirsty. I usually settle scores secretly, but I can't take it anymore today." Du Ruoxia said, then slapped the man's hand again.
The man's hand fell limply to his side. Du Ruoxia checked the umbrella in her hand with a pained expression. Fortunately, it wasn't broken. She glared at the man on the ground.
"Weren't you so imposing just now? Well then, get up!"
"Weren't you going to teach me a lesson? Get up and continue!"
"Rubbish!"
Du Ruoxia kept spitting and cursing at them, and they all retreated in fear.
She kicked those people a few times before they left, relieved. She had finished what she needed to do for the day, and it was just in time to go back and catch dinner at the cafeteria, otherwise she would have to cook for herself again!
She headed straight to the bus stop and ran into the same driver she'd met that morning.
"Hey, young lady, you've been reading in the library all this time!" the driver greeted her warmly.
Du Ruoxia's eyes sparkled. "Yes, that's right, it's quite interesting!"
The driver gave Du Ruoxia an appreciative look. "In your compound, I've only met two good ones. One is you, and the other is someone who hasn't come to take my ride in a while."
Du Ruoxia didn't answer, but she already knew in her heart who the driver was talking about.
"It's a pity, that girl is such a good person, but that mark on her forehead has affected her."
"By the way, she goes to the library every day too!"
The driver kept talking, and Du Ruoxia listened with a smile as she found a seat by the window.
The first thing Du Ruoxia did upon returning to the compound was to knock on Song Hongjiao's door.
Tell her to be ready to go back to work, but not to rush back.
Song Hongjiao was stunned. Du Ruoxia only had to go out once to finish her work?
"Du Ruoxia, you wouldn't risk your life for my job, would you? Speculation and profiteering are strictly investigated!" Song Hongjiao said seriously to Du Ruoxia.
Du Ruoxia sighed, thinking that Song Hongjiao was being far too idealistic. She wasn't that selfless; she was just returning a favor.
"Don't worry, I didn't do anything. I just told Director Xin the truth. I believe Director Xin is an honest person and will definitely give you justice," Du Ruoxia explained patiently.
Song Hongjiao felt a little relieved after hearing this. "It's too dangerous for you to go alone. What if Zhou Mengrou retaliates?"
Du Ruoxia shrugged and comforted her, "I'm not stupid, of course I won't go alone."
She felt that Zhou Mengrou's escapist behavior was too foolish, but she really had no ability to protect herself and was pregnant, so Du Ruoxia understood her concerns.
"Don't rush back these next few days. See what they have to say first," Du Ruoxia advised her as a final reminder.
That being said, it's not safe for Song Hongjiao to go out until Zhou Mengrou's problem is resolved, and Du Ruoxia won't let her take any risks.
In the following days, Du Ruoxia would intentionally or unintentionally visit Song Hongjiao's house and get a free meal.
The two were chatting in the corridor. Lin Meifeng's home was very close to the family compound, so she saw the two as soon as she went out.
"Vixen!" Lin Meifeng's sour voice rang out. While the other female educated youths were getting darker and darker from the sun, Du Ruoxia was getting fairer and fairer and doing very well. She was just jealous.
"Did you seduce your man? You're always cursing me." Du Ruoxia said, frowning.
Lin Meifeng couldn't explain it either, so she could only glare fiercely at Du Ruoxia before angrily slamming the door shut.
