Chapter 23 I will repay you

Chapter 23 I will repay you

"Don't worry, they won't dare to do anything to me," Yang Zeyan said confidently.

Du Ruoxia nodded as if she understood, but before she could say anything, Jiang Dezhu turned around and glared at her.

"You two hurry up and don't cause any trouble!"

Du Ruoxia stuck out her tongue and quickly followed Yang Zeyan.

The group consisted of the village chief and a few villagers, who were brought along by Jiang Guoqiang to make up the numbers.

Although the villagers had some complaints about Du Ruoxia, they couldn't stand idly by now that it concerned the village.

Along the way, people pointed and whispered about Du Ruoxia.

Du Ruoxia remained calm and didn't care what they were saying. People in the 1970s weren't very well-mannered.

It takes forty minutes to walk from the village to the town, but it's much faster by car.

Huang Dazhu and his men had already been taken away by his tractor, and Du Ruoxia was tired after walking for half an hour.

"How come this town is so far away now!" Du Ruoxia complained as her legs started to ache.

"We're almost there, how about I carry you on my back?" Yang Zeyan said gently, glancing sideways.

Du Ruoxia immediately shook her head frantically, "You still have a fever, you're a patient, how can I let you carry me!"

Upon hearing the mention of a fever, Yang Zeyan's expression became somewhat unnatural, and he nodded faintly.

Before long, we arrived at the police station, where people were already waiting at the entrance.

"So you're the ones who beat people up? Come in with me!" A man in a police uniform, his face dark, tried to pull Yang Zeyan away.

"No need, we'll walk ourselves. Call your bureau chief out."

Yang Zeyan pulled Du Ruoxia back a step and spoke calmly.

The uniformed policeman's hand froze in mid-air. When he realized what was happening, he looked at Jiang Guoqiang.

“He’s so lawless, handcuff him!” Jiang Guoqiang immediately said.

Upon hearing this, the police officer immediately concluded that Yang Zeyan was a troublemaker and took out handcuffs from his waist, intending to hand them to Yang Zeyan.

"Cuffing it is easy, but removing it later won't be so easy," Yang Zeyan said casually.

The police officer paused, glancing at Jiang Guoqiang and then at the stern-faced Yang Zeyan. In the end, he went into the station to find others to keep watch while he went inside.

Du Ruoxia was a little confused. An ordinary soldier hadn't returned to his unit on time, and now that something had happened, he was going to find the bureau chief. Wouldn't that just make things worse?

"Yang Zeyan, are you sure you want to see the bureau chief?" Du Ruoxia winked at Yang Zeyan.

Du Ruoxia wanted to give Yang Zeyan a meaningful look, telling him not to go too far and not to actually bring up the bureau chief to scare Jiang Guoqiang and the police.

She knew the system and social customs of the 1970s; many people put on airs, so these people wouldn't make things difficult for them.

"Don't worry, they'll regret it soon," Yang Zeyan comforted Du Ruoxia by patting her hair.

"Hmph, still being stubborn even when you're about to die. You've offended that Huang Dazhu, and I can't save you. He's related to the bureau chief!" Jiang Guoqiang said coldly.

Du Ruoxia knew that Huang Dazhu had some connections in the town, but she didn't expect him to be the bureau chief. This was troublesome.

"Yes, they're about to die." Yang Zeyan nodded in response.

Du Ruoxia felt uneasy. She even started looking outside, hoping to give Yang Zeyan a chance to escape.

"Soldiers do not run away." Yang Zeyan's stern voice came from above, with a hint of amusement in it.

Du Ruoxia gave an awkward smile. She had forgotten the code of conduct for soldiers, but he actually knew what she meant.

"Yeah, at worst we'll face it together. I won't run away!"

Du Ruoxia's fearless attitude pleased Yang Zeyan, who looked at her with a smile.

"Don't worry, I won't let you lose," Yang Zeyan comforted her with a smile.

Jiang Dezhu walked over and stood in front of Du Ruoxia. "Comrade Du, who is this?"

Upon seeing that it was Jiang Dezhu, Du Ruoxia immediately composed herself and obediently explained to the captain.

"Captain, it's not what you think. I had no choice but to resist today. They're trying to push me into a fire pit."

Seeing that Jiang Dezhu's attitude towards Jiang Guoqiang was different, Yang Zeyan nodded to Jiang Dezhu.

"I am his man."

Du Ruoxia was shocked. When did she get a man? How could this person be talking nonsense?

Du Ruoxia glared angrily at the man, and Jiang Dezhu was also puzzled, as he had never heard that Du Ruoxia had obtained a marriage certificate.

"Captain, you just need to say that Xiaxia has already submitted her marriage application," Yang Zeyan added.

The captain froze, then, as if realizing something, his brows relaxed, and he nodded hastily.

Du Ruoxia hadn't yet figured out the meaning behind Yang Zeyan's words, and she was about to speak when the captain stopped her.

"I'll wait for you there. Be careful."

Du Ruoxia looked at Jiang Dezhu's retreating figure with a puzzled expression, but Yang Zeyan patted her head.

"You want to marry that short, fat man?"

Du Ruoxia shook her head frantically. How could she compromise so easily? She was a believer in free love.

“If you don’t want to, then behave yourself. You’re married now, so naturally you can’t marry someone else,” Yang Zeyan explained patiently.

Du Ruoxia suddenly realized, "Oh right, it was the 1970s. There was no internet back then, so they couldn't find out her marital status!"

"Yes, you're right!" Du Ruoxia's eyes lit up, and a weight was lifted from her heart.

The young police officer who went to look for the person quickly ran back, panting and looking unwell.

"Our bureau chief doesn't meet with just anyone. He's already inside meeting with Huang Dazhu. You all need to go in quickly and give your statements!"

Du Ruoxia was immediately dissatisfied upon hearing the police officer's words, which directly implied that the problem lay with them.

"Are you sure?" Yang Zeyan raised an eyebrow.

The policeman waved his hand impatiently, "Go on!"

"Can I make a phone call first?" Yang Zeyan said calmly.

The police granted his request, as it was necessary to notify the family members, which would also save the station money on phone calls.

Yang Zeyan called back quickly, and with a smile, he led Du Ruoxia into the room arranged by the police.

The police officer sat down opposite him with a notebook, making a gesture as if to start taking a statement.

In this era, there were no computers, no surveillance, only a notebook for recording.

"No rush, my agent hasn't arrived yet," Yang Zeyan suddenly said.

The police officer froze as he pulled out the chair, his gaze towards Yang Zeyan growing increasingly displeased.

Just as the police officer was about to reprimand him, Yang Zeyan gave him a cold look, and he didn't dare to do it again.

"Fine, let's see what kind of agent can save you!" The police officer walked out with a furious look on his face.

Once the man left, Du Ruoxia rested her chin on her hand and waited. It was uncertain whether the people Yang Zeyan had called could defeat the bureau chief.

"Yang Zeyan, don't worry, I will explain everything to your superiors." Du Ruoxia thought for a moment and looked at Yang Zeyan seriously.

"Hmm? How do you want me to explain?" Yang Zeyan turned his face, which was as gentle as a spring breeze.

Du Ruoxia tilted her head in thought. She had to imagine how to say it, that she saved Yang Zeyan, and then Yang Zeyan saved her.

"Of course you didn't break any rules. You only helped me because you were saving me. Of course, I will repay you!" Du Ruoxia thought for a moment and answered seriously.

Yang Zeyan's eyes crinkled with a smile as he gazed at Du Ruoxia's face. "Hmm, how should I repay you?"

He said this and stretched his hand out in front of Du Ruoxia, who subconsciously stepped back.

"Don't move, let me see." Yang Zeyan's gentle voice came from above, and Du Ruoxia froze.
