Chapter 80 (End of Main Text)
Wen Zhi was caught off guard and blinked in a daze. Her gaze had just focused on the face so close to hers when the soft touch on her lips vanished.
It was so fast it seemed like his imagination.
"Xiao Tang can't see!" Xiao Tang's disgruntled accusation came from the side, instantly pulling Wen Zhi back to her senses.
The large hand that had been covering Xiao Tang's face was quickly withdrawn, and Xiao Tang, with her fair cheeks puffed out, glared at them angrily, not understanding why Song Juelan had covered her eyes.
Song Juelan, who had just stolen a kiss, showed no sign of guilt and remained calm and composed: "Some sand flew over just now, and I was afraid it would blow into your eyes, so I shielded them."
This explanation sounds perfectly reasonable enough to fool a three-year-old.
Xiao Tang looked at Wen Zhi, whom she trusted most, but saw that Wen Zhi's cheeks were flushed and her eyes were wandering. She did not point out that Song Jue Lan was lying.
It seems that what Brother Jue Lan said was true.
Xiao Tang immediately forgave Song Juelan, and even said "thank you" in a sensible way.
Wen Zhi's face burned even more. She secretly reached out and pinched Song Juelan's thigh lightly, but Song Juelan grabbed her hand instead.
The spinning teacup gradually slowed down and finally came to a stop. Amidst cheerful background music, the gentle voices of staff guiding tourists to leave were interspersed.
Song Juelan was the first to stand up, his long legs nimbly stepping out of the teacup-shaped cockpit and landing steadily on the ground. He then turned around and reached out his hand to the two people in the seats.
Seeing Song Juelan's relaxed demeanor, Wen Zhi also stood up confidently. Instantly, a wave of dizziness struck her, and she lost her balance.
A large hand caught his arm just in time, then wrapped around his waist, almost lifting him down in a half-carry.
Xiao Tang stood up unsteadily, then slumped back down with a cry of "Ouch!" and, like Wen Zhi, was finally lifted off the ground by Song Juelan with one hand.
"Why aren't you helping me?" Song Juelan's voice, tinged with obvious amusement, came from beside me.
Wen Zhi hadn't expected the spinning teacup to have such a strong aftereffect. Her feet felt like they were walking on soft clouds, and she couldn't even walk steadily. She had no choice but to quickly grab Song Juelan's arm.
After leaving the teacups, they enthusiastically headed to the next attraction, following the route planned on the map.
The morning passed quickly, and Wen Zhi and Xiao Tang had a great time. It wasn't until Xiao Tang's stomach growled a few times that Song Juelan took the two girls, who didn't even realize they were hungry, to a nearby themed restaurant for lunch.
After finding a seat in the restaurant, the three of them studied the menu for a while and found that the family-friendly meal was the most suitable for them.
After ordering, the waiters, dressed in cute uniforms, quickly brought the food to us.
The plate in front of Xiaotang was shaped like a cartoon character, and the food was carefully arranged in cute shapes. Even the straw in the soda was twisted into a simple cat head pattern.
The meal for the two adults was just a regular lunch, nothing special.
Wen Zhi glanced at her plain plate and then at Xiao Tang's colorful children's meal, secretly regretting that she hadn't ordered a family meal for one adult and two children.
"Want to order another kids' meal?" Song Juelan, who was standing next to him, saw through his thoughts and got up to order another meal.
Wen Zhi quickly pulled him back: "This one will do!"
Xiao Tang blinked her big, dark eyes and generously took a small star-shaped cookie from her plate and put it on Wen Zhi's plate.
After lunch and a short rest, they played a few more games with renewed energy, and happened to stumble upon a grand parade of floats on the roadside.
A group of staff members dressed in various mascot costumes are skipping and hopping along the parade route to cheerful music, greeting and interacting with tourists on both sides of the road.
Just as Wen Zhi and Xiao Tang found a spot to stand, a fluffy doll stopped in front of them, waved its big hand at them, bent down to give Xiao Tang a high-five, and then skipped away.
A handsome young man with a beautifully sculpted child was so eye-catching that they only stood there for a short while, and almost every doll that passed by stopped in front of them afterward.
However, Wen Zhi and Xiao Tang were more interested in the amusement park rides. After watching only a short part of the parade, they dragged Song Juelan to the next attraction.
The three of them played in the amusement park until it was completely dark, and then watched an incredibly spectacular fireworks show from the best viewing spot in the park.
Only then, still feeling unsatisfied, did they follow the crowd and leave the brightly lit amusement park.
As soon as she got into the car, Xiao Tang's head drooped down, she was so sleepy that she couldn't keep her eyes open. Soon she leaned back in the seat and drifted into a sweet dream.
Wen Zhi's energy bar had long been exhausted, but today he came to his favorite amusement park, and Song Juelan had been helping to take care of Xiao Tang, so he still had some energy.
His head rested on Song Juelan's shoulder, his slender white fingers intertwined with Song Juelan's large hand, as they spoke in a low, casual tone.
Later, his eyelids slowly closed, and as he smelled the reassuring, refreshing scent emanating from Song Juelan, his consciousness gradually blurred.
After an unknown amount of time, a deliberately lowered voice rang out not far away. Wen Zhi's long eyelashes trembled slightly, and she slowly opened them.
The familiar scenery outside the car window came into view. The car was already parked downstairs in front of his apartment building. Song Juelan turned his head slightly and told the driver to drive the car to the parking lot so that they could sleep a little longer.
“…No need.” Wen Zhi’s voice rang out, heavy with sleepiness. “Let’s go back upstairs and sleep.”
Song Juelan's gaze returned to his face, and she asked softly, "Did I wake you up?"
Wen Zhi shook her head with her eyelashes half-closed.
Seeing that he had already woken up, Song Juelan pushed open the car door and got out, went around to the other side of the car door, and picked up Xiao Tang, who was still fast asleep.
Wen Zhi also got out of the car. Just as she was about to reach out to take Xiao Tang's hand, a warm hand grasped hers and enveloped her in its palm.
"I'll take you upstairs." Song Juelan carried the sleeping Xiaotang in one arm and held Wenzhi's hand with the other, as they walked into the apartment building.
As Wen Zhi stepped out of the elevator, she took out her key from her pocket and inserted it into the lock. Just then, the door in front of her was pushed open from the inside.
"Zhizhi, you're back." Rong Rui's face appeared behind the door, and then she noticed Song Juelan holding Xiaotang beside her, and was slightly surprised, "Xiao Song, you're here too."
"Auntie," Song Juelan greeted politely.
"Let me do it." Rong Rui walked over and gently took Xiao Tang from Song Juelan's arms. She smiled warmly at them and said, "You two have worked hard today. Song, come in and sit for a while before you leave."
Just as Song Juelan was about to say no, Rong Rui had already turned around and gone into the house with Xiao Tang in her arms, intending to go to the children's room to settle Xiao Tang in first.
Only Wen Zhi and Song Juelan remained at the door.
"Aren't you coming in?" Wen Zhi rested her hand on the door frame, waiting for Song Juelan to come in together.
Although Song Juelan also wanted to stay with Wen Zhi a little longer, he hesitated for a moment, remembering that Wen Zhi's parents were at home: "It's getting late, I shouldn't disturb your rest, Uncle and Aunt..."
Just as Wen Zhi was about to say goodbye to him with reluctance, she suddenly remembered something, stepped forward and took Song Juelan's hand: "Come with me."
While Rong Rui led Xiao Tang into the children's room, Wen Zhi led Song Jue Lan quickly through the empty living room and slipped into her own room, gently closing the door behind her.
“That way we won’t bother them.” Wen Zhi leaned against the door, tilted her head back, and gave Song Juelan a smug smile.
As soon as he finished speaking, Song Juelan, who had been restraining himself all day, suddenly brightened up. He braced one hand against the door panel next to Song Juelan's ear, trapping him against his broad chest, and lowered his head to kiss Song Juelan's lips.
Wen Zhi's body stiffened slightly, and she belatedly realized that she seemed to have invited a wolf into her house.
Unlike the fleeting kiss at the amusement park, this time a fiery tongue eagerly pushed into his mouth, licking deep into his sensitive palate, then entwining with his evasive tongue and sucking it forcefully.
The temperature in the room rose sharply, and the two bodies were pressed tightly together, their hot and disordered breaths mingling together.
Suddenly, Rong Rui's voice came from outside the thin door: "Zhizhi, has Xiao Song gone back?"
Wen Zhi suddenly snapped out of her daze, reached out and nudged Song Juelan on the shoulder, turned her head to catch her breath a few times, and then guiltily replied, "...Yeah, he went back."
"Why is this child walking in such a hurry? He didn't even come in for a drink of water..." The footsteps outside the door gradually faded away, followed by the sound of the master bedroom door being gently closed.
Wen Zhi finally breathed a sigh of relief, raised her watery eyes to look at the man with deep eyes in front of her, and pursed her moist lips uncomfortably: "I...I'll go take a shower first."
He slipped out from under Song Juelan's arms that were holding him, grabbed his pajamas, and strode into the bathroom. Just as he was about to close the bathroom door, a slender hand blocked the door frame.
“I’ll go with you.” Song Juelan’s tone was matter-of-fact. He squeezed in before he could refuse and closed the bathroom door behind him.
"..."
Seeing that Song Juelan at the door had already taken off his shirt, revealing his well-defined muscles, Wen Zhi stared at him for a few seconds before reluctantly starting to take off her own clothes.
Anyway, it wasn't the first time I'd showered with Song Juelan, so there was nothing to be embarrassed about.
The sound of water in the bathroom continued for a long time, and Wen Zhi's voice, tinged with embarrassment and annoyance, could be heard from time to time. She even called out Song Juelan's full name several times in a fit of rage.
After a while, the bathroom door was pulled open, and Wen Zhi came out first. Her skin was flushed a light pink from the hot water, and her pajamas were still a little disheveled.
Following closely behind was Song Juelan, who was wearing only a bath towel around his waist. He walked out with a leisurely gait, and there were several fresh scratches on his firm and full chest muscles.
Wen Zhi walked to the wardrobe, took out the oversized dress that she had previously given to Song Juelan, and tossed it to Song Juelan.
Song Juelan quickly put on the clothes, then suddenly remembered that not long ago he thought they were Wen Zhi's "ex-husband's" clothes, but now it was clear that they weren't.
"Are these your own clothes?" Song Juelan sat down on the edge of the bed and leaned closer to Wen Zhi, who was lying on the bed.
“Yeah.” Wen Zhi, unaware of what Song Juelan had imagined, blinked her long, moist eyelashes. “I bought this in high school, thinking I’d grow taller…”
At this point, he curled his lip in dissatisfaction, "and never wore it after that."
Song Juelan's gaze fell on his regretful face, and she suddenly chuckled softly.
Wen Zhi automatically interpreted the laughter as mockery. Just as she was about to bar her teeth and claws to teach Song Juelan a lesson, that burning hot body enveloped her, and a scorching kiss landed on her lips.
It was a deep kiss so tender it almost melted him; Song Juelan's breath silently invaded his lips and teeth, gently permeating every inch of his body.
He unconsciously raised his arm and wrapped it around Song Juelan's neck, his lips slightly parted, exhaling rapid and sweet breaths.
"Ring ring—"
The shrill ring of the telephone shattered the tender atmosphere in the room, causing the two people on the bed to freeze in their tracks.
Song Juelan raised his head with a dark expression and grabbed the incessantly ringing phone from the bedside table.
This wasn't the first time he'd been interrupted at a crucial moment. He took a deep breath and answered the phone expressionlessly.
"What's up?"
Zhu Zhenghao, oblivious to his coldness, answered with a hearty voice: "Brother Song! Did you go back to City A for your vacation?"
Song Juelan replied, "I'm back."
"Great! Let's get together sometime when you're free!" Zhu Zhenghao excitedly extended the invitation.
"Okay." Song Juelan said succinctly, and was about to hang up the phone to continue what he was doing when a voice came from the other end of the line.
Zhu Zhenghao tentatively asked, "Um... should we invite Mr. Wen along? I wonder how he and his child are doing lately...?"
Since the start of the semester, he has been completely unaware of what happened between Song Juelan and Wen Zhi, and he has no idea what their current situation is.
Song Juelan paused slightly, raised his eyes, and met Wen Zhi's gaze, who looked completely at a loss on the bed. Seeing Wen Zhi's guilty look, he slightly curled his lips and said, "We'll talk about it later."
After the phone call ended, Wen Zhi's beautiful eyebrows furrowed in distress, and she turned her head to bury her face in the pillow.
Why hasn't he finished filling in the hole he dug yet?
Song Juelan lay down beside him, wrapped her arms around his waist, and asked in a low voice, "Should I go and explain things to him, or will you do it yourself?"
Wen Zhi glanced at him with her eyes flushed red, her voice a little muffled: "I'll tell you myself."
Regardless of who says it, it's him who's losing face.
When he told that lie, he never imagined he would have to confess on his own in the end.
As Wen Zhi pondered this, she couldn't help but steal a glance at Song Juelan, who was smiling beside her.
Ultimately, the biggest variable in all of this is the person lying next to him at this moment.
How could he have imagined that someone would even prey on a widow?
Wen Zhi suddenly lifted her head from the pillow, fluttering her thick, long eyelashes, and asked on a whim, "Have you ever thought about... what would happen if I were really a widow?"
If he really was a widow, he and Song Juelan had a long-distance relationship for four years. One of them lived a life revolving around children and daily necessities, while the other stayed in a colorful campus full of endless possibilities.
They will eventually... gradually drift apart.
Thinking about it this way, there seems to be a touch of melancholy...
"It will be the same as it is now." Song Juelan stared into his eyes with his deep black eyes and answered firmly without hesitation.
Wen Zhi stared blankly into those soft eyes, her heart feeling as if it had been struck heavily.
Song Juelan pulled him into her arms, her forehead gently pressed against his, her burning gaze shining through her dark eyelashes, her voice low and almost a whisper.
"No matter who you are, I will not let go."
Regardless of their identities, time, or place, they will eventually spot each other in the vast sea of people.
From the moment their eyes met, they were destined not to let the other slip out of their lives.
