Chapter 25 Meeting Parents at the Palace Banquet

The following evening.

Speaking of which, Su Tiyue hasn't seen her father and mother for quite some time.

They were always worried that Su Tiyue's life in the palace was not easy, and they couldn't help but ask her a few more questions every time they met. Her father was even more worried that Su Tiyue would be bullied, and that her clumsy personality would cause trouble, so he would always repeatedly tell her to abide by the rules and etiquette in the palace, and not to compete with others for favors, and so on.

In fact, Su Tiyue had become much more restrained since entering the palace.

To avoid worrying them, Su Tiyue dressed up more smartly and energetically than usual today.

She wore a pale yellow silk dress and a light purple brocade outer garment. Her hair was styled in a flying bun, adorned with a gold hairpin with tassels. As she walked, she swayed gracefully, appearing as charming and lovely as a fairy from heaven.

When Su Tiyue arrived at the Bright Hall, the banquet had not yet begun. She stood on the steps by the side door, tiptoeing and peering into the distance, trying to spot her beloved family members whom she had been longing for day and night among the many passersby.

Tonight's banquet was indeed grand, with almost all the high-ranking officials, nobles, courtiers, and generals of Yong'an City attending with their families.

The once quiet and desolate palace suddenly seemed to come alive.

This winter isn't so cold anymore; it's filled with the warmth of everyday life.

Su Tiyue found herself in this bustling environment, filled with anticipation and joy.

Finally, after much anticipation, I saw those two familiar figures.

Su Tiyue, lifting her skirt and beaming with joy, ran down the steps to greet them.

The weather was fine today, and the sun hadn't set yet. The ground was covered in a blanket of white, and on the wide, clean official road, passersby strolled leisurely towards the Bright Hall. Only Su Tiyue hurried down against the flow of people, with Liu Wan and Qing Wu chasing after her.

A gentle breeze blew by, lifting the hem of Su Tiyue's pale yellow skirt. The cold wind ruffled the stray hairs on her forehead, but she was still as radiant and beautiful as ever.

She ran over with a smile, walked between the two people, put her arms around each of them, and smiled slightly as she said something... A moment later, the three of them were laughing heartily.

The girl smiled so much that her eyes almost squinted into crescent moons.

Her steps were light and quick, each step like a lotus blossom, the tassel hairpin in her hair jingling with each step...

Xiao Heye stood on the high corridor, casually playing with the jade thumb ring. He turned his head and quietly watched this scene, his heart as calm as still water.

Li Xun walked over at this moment and said, "Master, everyone is here. Can we begin the banquet?"

Xiao Heye withdrew his gaze, glanced indifferently at Li Xun, and asked, "Where is the Emperor?"

Li Xun replied, "His Majesty is in high spirits today. Consort Ji is with him in the main hall, and they are almost drunk."

"Hmph, happy?" Xiao Heye sneered. "It seems the emperor really likes this crown prince. What about the empress?"

"Reporting to the Chief Supervisor, the Empress and the Crown Prince have also arrived."

Xiao Heye turned around and walked inside, saying casually, "Let's go see our good emperor of Northern Liang..."

*

After the banquet began, the hall was filled with singing and dancing, and the clinking of glasses. The emperor always enjoyed this lively atmosphere. He had Consort Ji on his left and Consort Wan on his right, his eyes constantly fixed on the dancers performing below the stage, thoroughly enjoying himself.

The emperor enjoyed himself on top, while the people below cheered and laughed.

There were insincere greetings and two-faced praises.

The palace maids and eunuchs moved through the crowd, busy adding wine and dishes.

Su Tiyue, her father Su Sui, and her mother Yang Wanzhi sat in a relatively secluded corner of the main hall, chatting and laughing. Liu Wan and Qingwu stood to the side, exchanging a smile.

When their master is happy, the two maids are naturally happy too.

Su Sui took a sip of the fruit wine in his glass. It was sweet and mellow. Knowing that Su Tiyue had a sweet tooth since she was a child, he handed her a small half-glass and said, "Yue'er, this wine is good. You'll definitely like it. Come and try some."

Yang Wanzhi gently patted Su Sui's hand and said softly, "Why should a young lady drink alcohol? Besides, Yue'er is still young. Don't always spoil her."

Su Tiyue's face was filled with a happy smile. It had been a long time since the whole family had sat down together to eat and chat. This feeling was warm and fulfilling.

She affectionately took Yang Wanzhi's arm and said in a sweet, coquettish voice, "Mother, Yue'er is married now and is no longer a child."

It was just a casual remark... but when Su Sui and Yang Wanzhi heard it, their smiles froze, and then a thin layer of gloom seemed to settle over them.

They knew perfectly well what kind of person Su Tiyue was marrying, but they were powerless to stop the marriage.

There are always things in this world that are beyond our control.

Su Tiyue realized she had said the wrong thing and felt a little annoyed; her eyes dimmed.

Yang Wanzhi paused, then reached out and placed a slice of meat in Su Tiyue's bowl, breaking the delicate atmosphere. She said, "Yue'er, eat more meat. I think you look thinner than last time."

Su Tiyue nodded and said, "Okay."

Su Sui also raised her wine glass and deliberately waved it in front of her, "Would you like a drink, Yue'er?"

"I want to." Su Tiyue smiled and was about to take the cup of wine when Liu Wan quickly stopped her, saying, "Master, the Empress doesn't have a high alcohol tolerance, so she shouldn't drink today."

"Your Majesty, what do you think?" Liu Wan turned her head and asked Su Tiyue's opinion in a low voice.

Su Tiyue was startled, only then remembering that terrible thing. If it weren't for the fact that she had drunk too much at the last banquet...

"Yes, Liu Wan is right. Father, I'd better not drink this wine."
