Chapter 37

Chapter 37

When Sheng Jinyu was about to get up, Su He suddenly moved, raised his hands and hugged his neck tightly. It was a coquettish gesture of retention. His fingers groped eagerly along Sheng Jinyu's chin, as if looking for the position of his lips.

This is a habit that Su He developed when he was sick in his childhood.

He always held his grandmother's hand while receiving the IV to make sure he was not the only one left there. Every time his grandmother stood up, he would hug her neck and act coquettishly.

Grandma would always kiss his forehead to comfort him, call him "good boy", and tell him that he would be back soon, only then would she feel at ease.

Unable to wait for the kiss on the forehead, Su He grabbed the person tightly and rubbed his forehead against him anxiously, like an anxious kitten that couldn't get its milk.

Sheng Jinyu listened to him humming some meaningless syllables in his throat, and rubbed against him in his arms like a naughty child. He was even almost pulled down by Su He, and he had to support himself on the mattress with his hands to steady himself.

He snorted and laughed: "Are you really confused by the fever, or are you pretending to be asleep?"

Su He didn't answer his question, and even because he didn't get a response for too long, he curled his lips downwards, as if he was sulking.

Sheng Jin pinched his nose as if he was being naughty. Su He couldn't breathe, so he had to open his mouth to breathe, and his whole head twisted.

After a moment, Sheng Jinyu finally leaned over and mercifully touched his forehead.

Just for a second, and then he pushed Su He back onto the pillow, grabbed his arm and stuffed it back into the quilt: "Alright, go to sleep."

Su He was indeed quiet, lying on his side hugging the pillow and not moving.

Sheng Jin made a "tsk" sound.

He said in a cold tone: "Just throw it away after use."

After returning from Mount Hewang, Su He's cold had not yet fully recovered and he would cough whenever the wind blew. Sheng Jinyu didn't ask him to go with him when he went out.

Su He was afraid of infecting others with his cold, so he always wore a mask all day long.

It was dinner time. Sister Ling had prepared the meal but couldn't find Sheng Jinyu. S037 popped his head out unsteadily: "The young master is in the study, but he seems to be in a bad mood. I went to bring him some water just now and was kicked out!"

"I'll go call him down." Su He's voice came through the mask.

Sister Ling glanced at him and said worriedly, "Ahe, don't wear a mask at home. It's so uncomfortable."

"I haven't fully recovered from my cold yet. It would be bad if I infect you." After saying that, Su He turned around and went upstairs.

Sheng Jinyu's study is usually locked. When he is not at home, only Sister Ling is allowed to go in to clean it regularly. Su He is also one of the key targets of prevention.

At this time, the door was wide open, and Sheng Jinyu was standing by the window talking on the phone. Su He didn't want to be regarded as an eavesdropper, so he deliberately increased his pace and walked to the door, but he didn't want to make a sound to disturb them, so he could only stand at the door and wait.

The person on the phone didn't notice the noise at the door, but was concentrating on listening to Yan Yichen's incessant chatter on the other end of the phone.

"Zheng Chengqi hasn't come back yet. He must be really sick. I checked his hospital records. He has an older sister named Zheng Wanlan. He must have been recuperating with his sister during this time."

Zheng Chengqi, the general manager of Qiuge, was once a capable subordinate of Sheng Zonglan. He has been with Sheng Zonglan for longer than Sheng Jinyu himself, and knows a lot of old secrets.

Part of the reason why Sheng Jin wanted the management rights of Xiaqiu Pavilion was because of this person.

However, a month ago, Zheng Chengqi took sick leave and saw that time was running out, but he still hadn't returned.

Sheng Jin was silent for a long while before he said, "He knows why I'm here. Recovering from illness is just an excuse. That's his attitude."

"You mean he knows you want to ask him about Aunt Jiang's disappearance, so he avoids you because he doesn't want to say it, or can't say it?" Yan Yichen asked back.

Sheng Jinyu hummed, then continued, "Not only that, I also want to know what happened before I was born."

Yang Yin, the youngest deputy director of Oak Mountain Institute at that time and a promising scientific research talent.

What happened that caused her to quit her job at the research institute and marry Sheng Zonglan? After spending more than ten years in depression, she jumped out of a car and ran away on a sunny afternoon, never to be seen again.

This secret from more than 20 years ago was only known by the old man who had followed Sheng Zonglan the longest. Among those loyal people, it was very difficult for Sheng Jinyu to pry open their mouths.

But Zheng Chengqi is different. As Sheng Zonglan's former confidant, he was marginalized and transferred to Qiu Pavilion to serve as an idle minor official because of the rift between him and his old master.

Sheng Jinyu could only start with him.

"I want to know if she really hates me, or if she hates Sheng Zonglan so she wants to implicate me." Sheng Jinyu's voice was so low that it was almost inaudible, and her tone was cold.

Even though Yan Yichen was eloquent, he didn't know how to respond at this moment. These were the past that Sheng Jinyu had always avoided. She couldn't mention them, but she couldn't let them go either.

Yan Yichen asked himself, if he had faced his father's hegemony and his mother's long-term indifference and avoidance while growing up, he would basically be on the verge of madness.

But Sheng Jinyu at least looks like a human being, and Yan Yichen actually admires him very much.

Sheng Jinyu quickly hung up the phone and stood there for a while. He heard two knocks on the door behind him. He knew who it was without turning around.

"Is there something?" Sheng Jinyu turned around and put out the cigarette butt between his fingers into the ashtray.

Su He didn't come in: "It's time to eat."

His voice was not loud to begin with, and he sensed the depressing atmosphere, so he lowered his voice, but it was all muffled by the mask.

Sheng Jinyu didn't hear a word and walked over to look at him. The cloth covered half of Su He's face, leaving nothing behind on his already small face. Only a pair of big eyes were exposed and swaying.

The shaking made him feel upset and he kept thinking of the way he had hugged her neck.

Sheng Jinyu asked, "How long are you going to keep it going?"

"I won't have to wear it anymore once I'm completely recovered from my cold." Su He stood some distance away from him, pulled the mask and said.

"Don't you feel bored?" Sheng Jinyu said.

Su He probably smiled, his mask arched upwards, and the corners of his eyes curved slightly: "It's okay, it's okay."

Sheng Jinyu suddenly raised his hand and took off the earring on one side of his head. Looking at the red marks on Su He's face, he quickly pulled off the mask. Su He was stunned for a moment and raised his hand to take it back. Sheng Jinyu turned around and threw it into the trash can.

"It's not a viral cold, it's not that easily contagious." He strode out the door.

After breathing in the fresh air again, Su He took a long, deep breath and then chased after him.

He realized later that Sheng Jinyu seemed to be taking care of him. Ever since he came back from the sea, Sheng Jinyu's attitude towards him had been a little strange.

She braved the rain to pick him up on the mountain, not only lent him the bathroom, but also took care of herself who was sick all night. Now she even cares about whether he feels stuffy wearing a mask!

This really doesn't seem like something Sheng Jin would do. What's more, he and Sheng Jin have a hostile relationship, competing openly and secretly.

Su He couldn't figure out what factors changed Sheng Jin's opinion of him, but it did help him a lot.

He wondered if he should prepare a gift as a thank you?

As autumn approaches, the temperature in Guangzhou drops slightly. The sun is no longer as scorching as a fireball. The deeper you go into the sea, the cooler the sea breeze feels on your skin.

Su He stood on the deck, staring at the dark clouds gathering in the sky, and let down his sleeves that were rolled up to his elbows.

When he returned to the cabin, Sheng Jin had just finished a short meeting with the expedition team.

Some time ago, Sheng Group won the bid for a government infrastructure project. As they had the red-headed bid, they could not afford to be negligent. Sheng Jinyu personally presided over the initial inspection to follow up on the progress and prevent any omissions.

Sheng Jin and Assistant Fang were talking with their heads tilted, and they walked out of the door one after another to get it. Su He went to meet him and saw him starting to search his pockets, as if looking for something.

He handed Sheng Jinyu's phone over: "You dropped it on the table while you were eating, so I kept it for you."

Sheng Jinyu glanced at him, and Su He understood, and said frankly: "Don't worry, I didn't do anything."

"How do I know if you are the one crying thief?" Sheng Jinyu continued, but there was no real blame in his tone, it sounded more like a teasing.

"Then you can check it out." Su He said good-temperedly.

Assistant Fang looked at the two of them, smiled, and took a few steps back tacitly.

At this time, the wind blowing from the deep sea was already quite wild, causing the sea surface to wrinkle with layers of waves, breaking the golden sunlight shining on the water, and the hull also swayed slightly.

Su He's clothes were flying and his hair was messy. He raised his hand to fiddle with his bangs and asked Sheng Jinyu, "When are we going back to shore?"

"Are you tired of staying here?"

Su He shook his head: "It's just that the weather doesn't feel good."

Sheng Jin looked at Fang Cheng, and Fang Tezhu understood what he meant and went to the control room on the ship to inquire about the progress and return time.

In just half an hour, the wind and waves on the sea became stronger and stronger, and the sky, which was sunny just now, suddenly changed its color. Assistant Fang received a reminder from the control room and decided to return home immediately due to the sudden change in the weather at sea.

There were still several fishing boats on the sea. They probably received the emergency signal issued by the meteorological station and turned around to return to the port.

Su He stood on the swaying bow of the boat, barely able to keep his balance.

The accident happened in an instant.

The wind and waves suddenly grew stronger, and the seawater that came over the hull soaked the deck, making the ground slippery. The safety officer shouted, "Everyone return to the cabin!"

Su He quickly ran to the nearest hatch, and pulled up a member of the expedition team who had slipped, and pushed her into the cabin. The ship shook violently at this time, and Su He lost his balance and fell over the railing.

In the chaos, he instinctively grabbed the railing and avoided falling directly into the sea. The surging sea water soaked him from head to toe.

My ears seemed to be covered by a layer of gauze, and I couldn't hear clearly whether it was the sound of the wind or the sound of human voices.

Su He tried hard to open his eyes, and saw Sheng Jinyu tugging at his hand, trying to pull him up, muttering, "Why are you trying to be a hero at this time!"

His wrist felt like it was crushed, and Su He coughed a few times. He followed Sheng Jinyu's strength and climbed up the hull. "What happened?"

"It's a storm." Sheng Jinyu's voice became gritted with teeth because of the force he exerted.

The storm came too suddenly and the boat was in chaos. The sound of the wind was mixed with shouting, and it seemed that someone had fallen into the water. Everyone rushed to rescue the person, but the boat was shaking too much and people kept being thrown overboard.

Sheng Jinyu held Su He's wrist tightly, and he couldn't steady himself for a moment. A wave came over, and he grabbed Su He and fell into the cold sea water.
