No need to ask anymore, the answer is already obvious.
There was a first pick, but that guy wasn't him.
An Jianwen turned his eyes away from his watch, a hint of disappointment flashing across his eyes. He didn't continue the topic, "Don't you have classes today?"
An Ci regained consciousness and followed his words, "Grandpa gave me a day off."
Before she finished speaking, her cell phone rang.
An Ci took out his cell phone from his pocket and glanced at the caller ID. It was Eric calling.
She stood up and said, "I'm going to take a call."
An Jianwen nodded, and An Ci answered the phone as he walked out, "Hello, cousin."
It was not until her back faded from his sight that An Jianwen withdrew his gaze, lowered his head to look at the bandage on his wrist and fell into deep thought.
Walking into the stairwell, An Ci lowered his voice and said, "I already know. I'm in the hospital now."
An Jianwen's affairs were widely spread in the family, and even Eric knew about it. Being always curious, he immediately came to An Ci to confirm it.
"Did An Jianwen really commit suicide by cutting his wrists?"
An Ci rubbed the ground with his toes and said nonchalantly, "No."
"But someone said they saw An Jianwen's wrist bleeding and he was taken away by an ambulance." Eric thought she was hiding something for An Jianwen and said, "Tell me the truth. I will keep it a secret."
“…”
Just his fifty-cent slotted mouth?
Still keeping it a secret?
An Ci ruffled his hair in a bored manner and said calmly, "You know those people are good at talking nonsense. He didn't commit suicide by cutting his wrists, he just accidentally hurt his hand. He will be discharged from the hospital in the next two days."
Eric was skeptical, "Really?"
An Ci hummed, and the next second he heard the other party's voice clearly relieved. "You scared me. I thought An Jianwen was really so depressed that he committed suicide."
Although he didn't have a good relationship with him, they had taken classes together for so long, and he didn't want anything to happen to him.
An Ci frowned, glanced at the half-open door, and lowered his voice, "I have something else to do. Let's talk when we get back."
Without giving Eric a chance to react, she hung up the phone and walked towards the door with light steps.
He placed a hand on the door handle and pulled hard.
"Aunt Xie?"
Xie Xin didn't expect An Ci to suddenly open the door. He froze and looked embarrassed as if he had been caught eavesdropping. He felt extremely awkward.
"I... I'm not..." She moved her lips, feeling a little helpless.
An Ci looked at her, but didn't question why she was hiding behind the door and eavesdropping. His tone was as gentle as ever, "Aunt Xie, do you have something to talk to me about?"
Seeing that she gave him a step, Xie Xin nodded quickly. She looked around and then pulled An Ci into the stairwell.
An Ci looked at her mysterious appearance, puzzled.
Xie Xin closed the door to the stairwell and then looked at An Ci, "Young Master, thank you for coming to see Jianwen. Thank you for not holding grudges and always treating Jianwen as a friend."
After a pause, she continued, "I know An Rui made a big mistake and almost hurt you, but he has paid a price over the years. Our family has broken up, and Jianwen has lost his father. Can you please, for Jianwen's sake, ask the head of the family to release An Rui? Consider this as my plea to you."
As she said this, she knelt on the ground with a thud.
An Ci frowned and reached out to help her, "Aunt Xie, if you have anything to say, please talk to me. Get up first."
Xie Xin shook her head and looked up at her, her eyes full of pleading. Her voice was unusually hoarse from having just cried. "You and Jianwen have been friends for so many years. You don't want to see him lose his father, right? Just think of it as helping us mother and son and asking the head of the family to release An Rui so that our family of three can be reunited, okay?"
An Ci withdrew his hand, squatted down under her pleading gaze, and looked directly at her, "Aunt Xie, you should know that grandpa didn't punish him entirely because he wanted to murder me."
An Rui not only coveted her grandfather's position as the head of the family, but also did many shameful things behind her back. The exposure of his plot to murder her was just the fuse.
Xie Xin's face was covered with tears, and she nodded with difficulty. "I know he has done many things, but he has also been punished. If the head of the family is willing to let him go, I believe he will definitely repent."
She grabbed her hand and cried, "Just think of it as Aunt Xie begging you to reunite our family of three, okay?"
An Ci lowered her eyes, her thick eyelashes hiding the emotions in her eyes, making it impossible to peek into her thoughts.
After a few seconds, she slowly pulled her hand out of Xie Xin's grasp and said, "Aunt Xie, I'm sorry, I can't help you with this."
It is difficult to change one's nature. Let's not talk about whether her grandfather can agree to release An Rui. Just look at An Rui's kind of person. Once he is released, he will definitely try his best to retaliate. This is undoubtedly a bomb that can explode at any time next to her and her grandfather.
No one would do such a thing to bring trouble upon themselves.
Xie Xin was stunned, and then began to speak incoherently, "You can help, why don't you help me? Don't you regard Jianwen as a friend? Is this how you treat your friends?"
"An Rui was just confused for a moment. Why don't you give him a chance to reform?" She staggered to her feet and stared at An Ci with gloomy eyes full of deep resentment.
"As expected of the future heir of the An family, you are just as cold-blooded and unkind as the head of the family."
An Ci took a step back, putting some distance between them. When he heard her next words, he frowned slightly.
She doesn't care what others say about her, but she can't care what others say about her grandfather.
"Aunt Xie, I know you're worried about Brother Wen's injury, but please be careful with your words."
Not wanting to argue with her, An Ci raised his foot and was about to leave.
