Tang Yilan and Jiang Can exchanged a glance, smiled slightly, and forced themselves to stay alert.
"On your positions," she said, picking up the walkie-talkie and looking intently at the screen. "Action!"
"You bitch!" When the camera was pointed at Wenwen, the actress didn't hold back and slapped Cheng Xuerou hard across the face!
Cheng Xuerou gasped in surprise, instinctively covering half of her face, feeling dizzy from the pain.
With her hair disheveled and two buttons undone on her cheongsam collar, Wenwen perfectly embodied the character, a fiery and feisty little firecracker.
She pointed at Cheng Xuerou, spitting as she cursed, "You slut, how dare you steal my man?! Don't you even know your own worth!"
This statement reveals a degree of genuine emotion.
Wenwen got into character in a second, quickly imagining herself as Tang Yilan, glaring angrily at Cheng Xuerou.
"Good, very good!" the assistant director instructed from the side. "Actors, pay attention to your emotions, hmm... be more expressive! Yes, zoom in... keep reciting your lines!"
"Get up! Resist me! Ha, trying to play the weakling in front of me? That might work on men, but it won't work on me!"
"I'll beat you to death today!"
Wenwen has a solid foundation in dialogue delivery, and her expressions and movements are also spot-on, so the scene was filmed smoothly.
"Good!" Tang Yilan finally showed a satisfied smile.
She finished the scene in one take, and a huge weight was lifted off her shoulders. She quickly put her earlier unpleasantness behind her and prepared for the next scene with renewed energy.
There are no more scenes featuring Cheng Xuerou.
She was slapped by Wenwen, her face turned pale, her hands and feet were ice-cold, and she was trembling all over. She stepped aside and stared coldly at Jiang Can and Tang Yilan.
Wenwen was very pleased with herself. She put on a shawl and swaggered past her, not forgetting to give her a disdainful glare.
The film set returned to order, and Tang Yilan focused on her work, while the other actors cooperated seamlessly.
Only Cheng Xuerou looked at Ye Chen with teary eyes, as if she had suffered a great injustice.
Ye Chen frowned, hesitated for a moment, and then quietly approached Tang Yilan.
Can I speak with you alone for a couple of minutes?
Tang Yilan's expression changed slightly, she paused, and nodded gently.
The two arrived at a lounge not far from the film set.
"I know you're doing this for Cheng Xuerou, right?" Tang Yilan asked bluntly.
Despite her sweaty palms from nervousness, she spoke first: "It's not that I want to do it this way, but she lacks the professionalism an actor should have. There are still many scenes to come, some involving rolling in the sand, some involving falling down stairs..."
"If she continues to be so hesitant and indecisive, I will consider replacing her!"
"Yilan..." Ye Chen hesitated, wanting to say something but stopping himself.
He met her firm and bright eyes, and saw that her face was full of stubbornness, but a hint of bitterness flashed across her lips.
His heart suddenly trembled violently, like a pebble thrown into a lake causing ripples.
But soon, the ripples disappeared.
"Don't worry, I'm a person who keeps my personal and professional life separate. I won't ask anything of you because of her," Ye Chen smiled. "It's just... there's something I want to give you."
Tang Yilan was stunned. "What is that?"
Ye Chen took out a small red purse from his pocket. It was exquisitely embroidered and had the character "福" (fortune) on it.
“One of my clients is quite superstitious. Before the court hearing last week, I accompanied him to a temple to put his mind at ease. When he saw this, he thought it was quite unusual.”
Tang Yilan's heart skipped a beat, and she clutched the lucky bag tightly in her two small hands, not daring to look him in the eye.
"I hope it brings you good luck!" Ye Chen said softly. "I also hope the movie is a huge success, and that you win the Golden Cup again!"
Tang Yilan lowered her head and smiled, all the gloom from before vanishing.
As long as he turned around and looked at her, she felt that the whole world was full of sunshine.
"Thank you."
"Aren't we good brothers? Why are you being so polite with me!" Ye Chen chuckled, looking down at her. "Um... you're not angry anymore, are you?"
"Um?"
"I know you're a rational and composed girl, and you're warm and sincere to others, so just now... it must have been Xue Rou who did something wrong to upset you like that. I apologize to you on her behalf, please don't be angry anymore, okay?"
Tang Yilan was stunned; the gloom that had just dissipated returned to her heart.
So, the reason he gave her this was ultimately for Cheng Xuerou.
In his eyes, she was very sensible, so sensible people should be tolerant and understanding, broad-minded, and should not hold grudges when wronged.
But only the squeaky wheel gets the candy!
She could never imitate Cheng Xuerou, nor would she stoop to doing so.
Therefore, in Ye Chen's heart, she will never be as good as Cheng Xuerou.
Tang Yilan forced a wry smile, looked down, and noticed that the lucky bag in her hand didn't seem as vibrant anymore.
...
Later that evening, a few men met at a bar.
Huo Zhixing didn't want to go, but Bai Jingyuan said he wouldn't have to pay for the drinks, so he went.
Bai Jingyuan chuckled incessantly as soon as he saw him.
"Third Brother, I remember when we were in Jiangzhou, my sister-in-law spent all her money on you! How come you're so down on your luck now?"
Huo Zhixing gave him a sharp look and continued to savor his Chivas Regal.
"You're definitely down on your luck!" Lu Lishan laughed as he played the game. "Young Master Bai, have you ever seen a tycoon's heir who only has five hundred yuan on him?"
"Brother Shan, you're not much better!" Bai Jingyuan said with a simple, honest look. "How long has it been since you last smoked?"
"Damn it!"
Lu Lishan threw away the game console and went to beat him up.
