Bai Jingyuan shrugged. "I don't know about that. I can't possibly know the details of your family affairs."
"But your grandfather has been quite unpredictable lately. He sent someone to England to secretly investigate the five major financial groups on your grandfather's side, and it seems he even threw a tantrum at your father after he came back..."
Gu Mang's expression was deep, with a slight smile playing on his lips.
Grandpa has always been the undisputed leader in the Huo family, and the old man is also very thoughtful and suspicious. Although he doesn't trust Huo Zhanhe much, anything Huo Zhanhe says in his ear still has some influence.
“Looking at it this way,” Ye Chen frowned, “Third Brother, you’d better take some time to go back to Yangcheng. Any misunderstandings can be discussed openly between you two, grandfather and grandson, and explained things properly. I suspect his outburst is likely because of your marriage alliance with the Yao family…”
"Oh, forget it then!" Bai Jingyuan gloated. "You'd better stay in Jiangzhou and don't arouse Jiang Can's suspicion! Heh, if Yao Manning is brought here again, things will get interesting!"
"Cough cough!" Ye Chen coughed violently.
You really know how to bring up the most sensitive topic!
"Yes, I know what I'm doing." Gu Mang rubbed his temples, looking a little tired.
Ye Chen, quick-witted, pulled Bai Jingyuan aside and hurriedly said goodbye.
Gu Mang lay alone in bed, exhausted but unable to sleep, his injuries throbbing.
This reminded him of the plane crash, when he almost thought he wouldn't survive.
However, he still managed to survive this ordeal.
Having died once, he understands the meaning of rebirth from the ashes even more. He wasn't particularly interested in the title of Huo's heir before, but now he's determined to give it his all.
Only by standing at the highest point can you properly protect those you want to protect...
Gu Mang sighed heavily, and as soon as he closed his eyes, Jiang Can's image kept flashing before his eyes.
...
During the few days that Gu Mang was hospitalized, Jiang Can was running back and forth between home and the hospital, while also having to take care of her work, keeping her extremely busy.
After giving Gu Mang a thorough examination, Shen Xiao smiled and said, "Your physical condition is indeed quite good. If an ordinary person were injured like this, they would have been bedridden for three months!"
"So I can be discharged now?" Gu Mang asked, looking at him as he put on his clothes.
"I think it's a good idea." Shen Xiao thought for a moment. "You can just go home and recuperate, which will save Jiang Can the trouble of traveling back and forth. If you have any problems, just contact me, I'll be there whenever you need me!"
Gu Mang smiled gratefully and patted him on the shoulder.
Although not as close as the childhood friendship between Bai Jingyuan and Ye Chen, Shen Xiao was still a benefactor in his life, and this friendship was especially precious after he fell on hard times.
Shen Xiao went to check on other wards, while Gu Mang was packing his things to be discharged that afternoon.
However, a rustling sound was heard outside the ward door.
He paused, and the click of the doorknob came clearly, followed by footsteps approaching.
If it were Jiang Can, she would be outside sweetly calling "husband" even before she came in!
Gu Mang's eyes darkened slightly, and he lay back down on the bed without making a sound.
"Ward number 3, is this Mr. Gu?" A clear voice suddenly called out, "Mr. Gu, it's time to change your dressing!"
Immediately afterwards, a nurse pushed in a nursing cart and stood beside Gu Mang's bed.
She was wearing a large mask and kept bending down to dispense medicine, so Gu Mang couldn't see her real face.
However, this voice...
"Mr. Gu, you have one more injection," the nurse said softly. "Shall I give you the injection first, and then we can change the dressing?"
"Thank you for your trouble," Gu Mang said calmly.
The nurse tore open the disposable syringe and took out the prepared medicine from the bottle. Gu Mang had already rolled up his sleeves, revealing his strong forearms.
She put a pressure point band on him, but then casually touched his arm and hand...
"Sir, with such well-developed muscles, you must work out a lot, right?"
Gu Mang suddenly looked up and saw that the nurse was also staring at him, her bright eyes revealing a hint of cunning!
In that instant, she grabbed the syringe and stabbed him!
Gu Mang reacted quickly, grabbing her wrist. The nurse was not to be outdone, using her other hand to fight back with agile and nimble movements.
But after a few rounds, he was still subdued by Gu Mang.
Gu Mang easily pinned her hands behind her back, pinning half of her body to the bed, rendering her unable to move.
"Ouch, it hurts!" the girl screamed. "Let me go!"
Gu Mang suddenly ripped off her mask.
"I'm not playing anymore!" the girl glared at him angrily. "You always get serious with me, you never give in!"
Gu Mang chuckled softly before releasing her. The girl quickly stood up, keeping a distance from him, her large eyes filled with grievance as she gently rubbed her reddened wrist.
Gu Mang shook his head helplessly, "Why are you here?"
"You're injured, can't I come to see you?"
"You just came like this? Do Dad and Aunt Yun know?"
"Who needs their help!" the girl said playfully. "Isn't it enough that you're in charge? Huo Zhixin will always be Huo Zhixing's little follower, you haven't forgotten that, have you!"
Gu Mang paused for a moment, then his gaze softened considerably.
Huo Zhixin is his half-sister.
Although he had some reservations about his father's remarriage, he had only maintained a superficial politeness towards his stepmother over the years.
But Huo Zhixin was one of the few sources of warmth he felt in the Huo family.
The siblings are quite far apart in age, and Huo Zhixin has always liked to follow her brother around since she was little, always doing whatever her brother says.
Even the earnest advice from my parents was less effective than a single word from my older brother.
Sometimes he felt it was a special kind of fate. Her name was Zhixin, and this little girl truly understood his heart.
"Hey, Mr. Gu." Huo Zhixin blinked her mischievous big eyes, "You've been playing Mr. Gu for so long, you haven't really forgotten that your surname is Huo, have you?"
