Lin Zhaojiang finally stepped into Song Wan's world once again.
He now frequently stays overnight at that apartment, ostensibly to watch over and protect her. Song Wan tried to refuse several times, but couldn't resist him, so she had no choice but to let him do as he pleased.
Although he only gets to sleep on the sofa, he enjoys it.
He believed that sooner or later, he would be able to sleep next to her.
Lin Zhaojiang spent most of his time with Song Wan, taking care of all the housework and preparing three meals a day for her by hand. Only now did he realize how hard Song Wan had worked for him before, and how much she loved him to do these things so tirelessly every day.
Sometimes Song Wan felt puzzled watching him busy at home, and that inexplicable dream would repeatedly haunt her.
But she had to admit that with Lin Zhaojiang around, she felt much more at ease.
The feeling he gave her was completely different from that of Bai Ruogu.
In the past, Bai Ruogu often said to her, "Later," "When there's an opportunity," "In the future"...
Lin Zhaojiang often told her, "I'm here," "Leave it to me," and "Don't be afraid."
His words contained no love, yet they were full of affection for her.
That evening, Song took a day off, and Lin Zhaojiang was stewing beef brisket with carrots in the kitchen.
This was a new dish he had learned, and he treated each step with great care and attention, even down to how to add each spoonful of seasoning, as precisely as if he were conducting a chemistry experiment.
Soon, a delicious aroma wafted out, and he smiled with satisfaction. He put the lid on the pot and turned the heat down. Just then, the doorbell rang.
He opened the door and saw Lin Yuqing standing outside, looking at him with a complicated expression.
"Sister?" Lin Zhaojiang was slightly taken aback. "What are you doing here?"
"I was right to know that this was the only place I could see you!" Lin Yuqing teased. "Your brother-in-law even told me to go to the Lixing Hotel to find you, but I said you definitely wouldn't be there!"
Lin Zhaojiang invited her in, but Lin Yuqing refused.
“There are still people at your house, so I won’t go in.” She handed him the bag in her hand. “These are some changes of clothes for you, and some documents you left at my house. I’ve brought them to you together.”
"Thanks."
Lin Yuqing looked inside but didn't see Song Wan.
“Wanwan is still sleeping.” Lin Zhaojiang chuckled softly. “She’s on leave today, and I wanted her to sleep a little longer. She’s usually quite tired from work.”
"I never expected you to be so considerate." Lin Yuqing said with some worry, "Zhaojiang, tell me the truth, are you really planning to continue living like this with Song Wan?"
"Of course not."
"and you?"
“This can’t go on forever,” Lin Zhaojiang smiled. “I’ll find an opportunity to propose to her and make up for everything I owe her before.”
"But what if she remembers what happened in the past..."
“That’s alright.” Lin Zhaojiang said calmly, “Even if she hates me for the rest of her life, I will never let go of her hand again.”
“Okay.” Lin Yuqing sighed. “If you love her, then take responsibility for her. Money, power, and status are not the standards by which to measure a man. The most important thing for a man is his sense of responsibility.”
"Sister, I understand."
"There's one more thing..." Lin Yuqing thought for a moment and said, "Ruogu's mental state hasn't been very good lately."
Lin Zhaojiang's expression changed, and he looked at her quietly.
“Ashan and I have been to the Bai family twice, but there has always been a bit of a barrier between us because of this matter. I’m afraid the relationship between our two families can never go back to what it used to be.”
Lin Zhaojiang lowered his head slightly, "It's my fault for dragging you and my brother-in-law into this."
"Don't think like that," Lin Yuqing said gently. "The connections, gatherings, and separations between people are all preordained. If we really trace it back, I am the culprit. I shouldn't have introduced Song Wan to Ruogu in the first place."
“I’ve caused you trouble this time,” Lin Zhaojiang said sincerely. “I admit, I did something quite despicable, using some unethical methods. Sister, don’t worry, I won’t do anything to the Bai family. Bai Ruogu owes the bank those…”
Before he could finish speaking, Lin Yuqing said, "Jingyuan and Wanyin are both reasonable people. It's only right to pay back debts. They will transfer the money they owe you to your bank account in installments."
"Then I won't ask for interest."
Lin Yuqing smiled, her expression a mixture of relief and a touch of helplessness.
“But as for Bai Ruogu,” Lin Zhaojiang continued, “I will never forgive him! He should have thought this day would come when he bullied Wanwan. Even if he is mentally unstable now, he deserves it!”
"Alright, watch your mouth! You're not exactly a good person yourself..."
Lin Zhaojiang looked up at her, and the two siblings looked at each other for a moment before laughing together.
"What's that smell?" Song Wan's voice suddenly came from inside the house.
Lin Zhaojiang was stunned for a moment, then hurriedly turned around and saw Song Wan wearing pajamas and slippers, rushing into the kitchen in a panic.
Lin Zhaojiang also sensed something unusual.
"Oh no, it's burnt!" Song Wan exclaimed, quickly turning off the heat and using a cloth as a mat to lift the lid of the clay pot.
"This is?"
"I made braised beef brisket with carrots..." Lin Zhaojiang was both anxious and frustrated. He had finally managed to impress her, and this was the result...
"Didn't you add water?" Song Wan wrinkled her nose. "The carrots are all dried out!"
"Water?" Lin Zhaojiang was confused for a moment, then quickly took out his phone to look at the recipe.
All the other seasonings are there, but it seems... we really forgot to add water!
Seeing the sweat beading on his forehead, Song Wan chuckled, "Mr. Lin, this is simmering over low heat. You haven't added any water and haven't been watching over it, of course the pot will burn!"
"oh……"
"Alright, alright, you should get out of here!" Song Wan pushed him out. "I'll handle this. You're not good at kitchen stuff!"
"Um, I can do it, I..."
"Get out!"
The young woman smiled and pushed him out, then skillfully began cleaning up the "battlefield."
Lin Zhaojiang couldn't offer much help, but he still kept busy, handing over rags and wet wipes.
Lin Yuqing watched from afar, smiled softly, closed the apartment door, and quietly left.
She has seen that Lin Zhaojiang is living a happy life now, and she believes that he will not make the same mistakes as before.
Lin Yuqing went downstairs and remembered that it was her daughter's prenatal checkup day, so she called Jiang Mianmian. However, as soon as she answered, she heard a slightly hurried tone on the other end: "Mom, I'm a bit confused here... Can I call you back in a bit?"
"What's wrong?" Lin Yuqing frowned. "Little Youzi, what happened over there? Don't scare Mommy!"
“It wasn’t me!” Jiang Mianmian sighed and decided to be frank with her. “Junyu accompanied me to my prenatal checkup today, but we ran into Junyang and Zhijin at the hospital. We thought something had happened between them, but… it turned out to be Ruogu…”
"Huh? What's wrong with Ruogu now?"
"Ruogu was beaten up." Jiang Mianmian said anxiously, "Mom, it's hard to explain in a short time. Ruogu is still in the emergency room. I'll call you again when he's feeling better!"
