Chapter 7 Rhythm

Chapter 7 Rhythm

Duan Ke landed safely in the dim underground.

He did not fold his tail and wings immediately, but raised his tail vigilantly and looked around, only to find that it was pitch black.

Fortunately, the succubus had good night vision and could clearly see the dry and hard rock tunnel surrounding him.

This is in the mountain ghost's belly.

Duan Ke held the bag of buttered toast in one hand and gently tapped the rock wall next to him with the other hand, like a kitten politely begging for food, not caring at all that he was swallowed by a mountain ghost without saying hello.

"Hello, are you there?"

The surroundings were still quiet, but not long after, the rocks around Duan Ke began to shake, as if some monster made of mud was opening its mouth to speak.

"exist--"

The mountain ghost's voice sounded like the echo of a person shouting in the middle of a valley, and Duan Ke, standing in his stomach, was like a bell that had been knocked unconscious, and was shaken to the point of wanting to vomit.

Duan Ke didn't even hold the toast in his hand. He covered his ears with both hands, frowned, and looked very uncomfortable.

"Can you please keep your voice down? I'm going deaf!"

"oh--"

The mountain ghost continued to drawl, the last syllable dragging on for more than ten seconds, but his voice had indeed become lower.

"Have you—seen—the Inquisitor—"

Inquisitor?

Duan Ke's heart skipped a beat, and he suddenly recalled the vague words he heard before he fell.

I thought I had misheard, but it turns out the judge is really here?

Duan Ke suddenly felt a little flustered. He hurriedly folded up his wings and tail, turned his head to look at his butt a few times, patted it, and felt relieved only after making sure it was hidden.

"Why are you looking for the judge?" Duan Ke asked curiously, holding a piece of bread in his mouth.

"Friends—killed by him—the wolf demon—"

The mountain ghost angrily accused the judge of killing his best friend, the wolf demon, and exaggerated the cruelty of his methods and the decisiveness of his shooting, treating the monsters as Japanese.

In short, he concluded, "Inquisitor, this is terrible—the ban must be abolished—! Ouch!"

The mountain ghost spoke too slowly, and his tone was as emotionless as a humanoid, so any other monster would fall asleep on the spot if they heard it.

But Duan Ke listened nervously, his expression even more exciting than the mountain ghost's exaggerated story. He squatted on the ground, biting his thumb unconsciously, his eyes darting around.

What a terrifying demon! He's truly ruthless and cruel!

It seems that I still need to be careful. Even though I have a host now, I still have to try to reduce the frequency of using mana to prevent this terrible inquisitor from having the chance to discover me.

After the mountain ghost finished speaking, he did not linger for long and quickly set off to look for someone in his stomach.

Duan Ke was lost in thought for a long time, and when he came to his senses he realized a major problem: he forgot to let the mountain ghost spit him out first!

Duan Ke stood up in a panic, but found that the mountain ghost had left. He knocked on the stone wall for a long time but no one answered. He could only wander around in the long underground tunnel, trying to find the exit by himself.

The belly of the mountain ghost is a combination of rock tunnels and caves, and the exit is usually the entrance of a cave. Duan Ke wandered around inside for a long time before finally catching sight of a faint light.

It's the entrance to the cave!

He ran over happily.

"Have you checked the southwest?"

"Southeast, ten o'clock."

"How many people?"

Duan Ke suddenly heard a low, hoarse voice coming from the rock pile, and his steps stopped abruptly. He stopped chewing on the toast, silently swallowed the fragrant, burnt toast in his mouth, and licked the crumbs on his lips.

Duan Ke cautiously shrank behind the rock, with only a small part of his head exposed. He suppressed his breath and eavesdropped secretly. His two light-colored eyes glowed in the darkness, like a cat whose fur stood on end at the fear of passersby.

The man's voice was slightly magnetic, like fine sand and gravel, with a mellow texture.

He spoke calmly and gave clear instructions. Duan Ke could almost imagine this man holding the communicator with an expressionless face, occasionally frowning and then quickly letting go.

Is he an inquisitor? Capturing monsters under his command?

Could it be that he had also discovered himself and Helekla hiding in the mountain ghost's belly, and was now sending his bad guys to surround them?

Duan Ke was suddenly frightened and looked back nervously at his butt. After confirming that his tail was not exposed, he felt a little relieved and continued to eavesdrop.

But for some reason, he always had an indescribable, strange feeling in his heart.

This voice seems familiar...

I feel like I've heard it not long ago.

Who is it?

Duan Ke held his breath and tried hard to think. When he had a vague feeling and was about to remember it, a sudden roar of a giant dragon shook the entire underground tunnel!

"boom--"

Duan Ke was so shocked that he bounced up from the ground. His brain was still dazed when a flaming rock that was several times larger than him suddenly fell on top of his head!

Duan Ke's brain wasn't quick to react, but his body instinctively reacted quickly. He suddenly unsheathed his tail, slashing the heart-shaped tip upward like a whip, intending to split the flaming rock in two.

But someone was faster than him.

Duan Ke only felt a nimble and tall figure flash in front of him, and then his vision went dark, and he was embraced in an embrace filled with warmth and tempting fragrance.

Duan Ke was very familiar with this embrace and immediately recognized who it was, because this person had held him in the same way before he fainted yesterday.

So Duan Ke didn't struggle at all, and cooperated by resting his head on Qin Huai's shoulder and hugging his neck with his arms.

Qin Huai's body was tight and powerful, easily encircling Duan Ke. He held Duan Ke's butt with one hand and the back of his hairy head with the other, then calmly and quickly rolled to the side, avoiding the falling boulder.

The huge rock fell with a loud bang to the ground where Duan Ke was standing two seconds ago, and shattered into pieces in an instant. Sporadic flames were still burning, making the entire tunnel seem even quieter and more depressing.

Qin Huai frowned, his body slightly tensed, and he released his hand that was supporting the back of Duan Ke's head. He was on guard against the powerful monster that was very close to him at this moment, and was ready to withdraw and fight back at any time.

...How come her body was faster than her brain and she suddenly rushed over to save him.

Qin Huai thought very quickly. He looked around at the surrounding environment and quickly calculated the fastest way to counterattack Duan Ke and the escape route.

It was clear that the Ancestral Succubus was most likely an accomplice of the Mountain Ghost. If he had attacked him at this time, he would have no chance of escaping unscathed. Yet, he still instinctively and without any reason, acted irrationally, even more inexplicable than last night.

The original succubus is indeed very capable.

Must immediately...

"Brother Qin Huai!" Duan Ke's excited voice.

The tunnel was silent for a moment. Duan Kejian didn't hear anyone, so he thought Qin Huai hadn't heard clearly. He pushed Qin Huai's shoulder, then rushed over to hug him tightly, and whispered in Qin Huai's ear, "Brother Qin Huai?"

"……Um."

Qin Huai's tone remained calm, and his expression didn't change noticeably, except for a slight movement of his Adam's apple. But Duan Ke could smell Qin Huai's fragrance again.

It was even thicker than yesterday, which meant that Qin Huai was in a very good mood, and quite a good one.

It seems that his owner is a bit hypocritical. Duan Ke silently added a new item to the "owner's observation experience" in his mind.

"Why are you here? It's very dangerous here. Why are you standing at the exit and not leaving?" Duan Ke was very worried and grabbed the corner of Qin Huai's clothes.

"I came to University A to handle some work and got sucked in accidentally."

Qin Huai adjusted his posture to make Duan Ke sit more comfortably. "I don't know where the exit is, so I don't dare to go over."

It turned out that he was just talking on the phone with a colleague to deal with work. Duan Ke suddenly felt relieved.

I thought it was the Inquisitor ordering his men to catch monsters, but I was really worrying too much. I guess it's just that the professional terminology used in Qin Huai's work happens to overlap with that of the Management Bureau.

How could his owner be such a bad person when he's so gentle? Don't believe rumors or spread them.

But then again.

"What you did just now was too risky!" Duan Ke reached out and pinched Qin Huai's shoulder angrily.

"I'm a monster. You fed me yesterday, so I'm very strong now. I won't get hurt. But you, a human, are charging at me like this. What if you get hurt?"

Duan Ke moved his butt and sat up straighter, so that his words would sound more serious.

"Got it? Next time you encounter this kind of situation, don't act rashly. Wait for me to save you!"

The cave was quiet for a moment, and Duan Ke felt that the person under him was breathing lighter.

Unbeknownst to Duan, Qin Huai's night vision had also been trained to exceptional standards. Qin Huai could clearly see his unusually forceful tone and serious expression, causing his thoughts to pause for a moment, his heart twitching as if being pawed by the soft paws of a kitten.

He said, "I'm sorry, I won't do that next time."

The owner's safety awareness has been improved, which makes Duan Ke happy.

His tail, which he had not yet retracted, swayed up and down, and the soft tip of the furry tail gently stroked Qin Huai's forearm.

Feeling this touch, both of them were stunned and looked down at the same time.

The warm atmosphere was instantly broken, and awkwardness quickly spread between the two.

Qin Huai had no expression on his face: "."

Duan Ke: “……………………QAQ”

How could he forget to put his tail away!!!

Duan Ke frowned and stared at the tail that was still twisting excitedly with great regret and hatred.

He thought for a long time about the possibility of making Qin Huai believe that he was a genetically mutated kitten.

But this reason is too absurd! He is not human and it is hard to believe it, let alone Qin Huai, a normal human being!

Duan Ke turned around and lay on Qin Huai's neck, pretending to be dead without making a sound.

The tail behind it suddenly turned into a white cat's tail in an attempt to cover up its mistake.

Qin Huai looked at Duan Ke's tail hanging limply on the ground, feeling helpless.

He is a judge and he has cooperated so well, but how come he can't even tell a lie? He is so stupid.

Although Duan Ke is a monster, his body temperature is very warm and his body is soft.

Qin Huai hugged him, and for no reason he recalled how Duan Ke cooperated with his movements and let him manipulate him last night when he fell asleep, and spit out the orange-flavored foam obediently. The indescribable emotion in his heart became stronger.

No.

...Just to build a good relationship with the succubus so that she can better lurk around him.

Showing weakness and getting close were all just part of the plan, Qin Huai thought. He had his own rhythm and didn't let Duan Ke lead him.

After figuring this out, Qin Huai felt that he had regained his sanity and indifference towards monsters.

He followed his own thoughts and reached out to hold the back of Duan Ke's furry head to comfort him.

Qin Huai hadn't touched the cave for a few times when he heard sporadic footsteps and gunshots outside the cave, followed by a voice that sounded calm but faintly anxious.

"Sir, are you in there?"
