Chapter 23 The Promise Between Siblings

The long banquet opened up another path for Jiang Sheng.

Sometimes, price reductions aren't the only promotional tactic; offering free gifts can also work.

Looks like I'll have to go to the county tomorrow to buy some nice hair accessories and ribbons. These two items are especially popular among the aunties, and they'll definitely sell well if paired with a padded jacket.

Having figured everything out, Jiang Sheng breathed a sigh of relief. The crisis of having her business stolen was finally over, and she had also grown smarter and more mature.

It wasn't until she rested that night that Jiang Sheng realized what had happened.

Even Brother Xu Mo couldn't have imagined this, so why is Fifth Brother so clever?

He seemed to be in complete control, as if he already knew what to do.

To understand people's hearts so thoroughly.

For example, if the Zhang family bought a cotton coat for twelve coins, he would buy it back for eleven coins. This wasn't because he was greedy for that one coin, but because he wanted the Zhang family to lose dozens of coins so that they would learn their lesson and wouldn't dare to steal his business in the future.

For example, knowing how to use real people for advertising, or knowing how to maintain the price of fourteen coins with free gifts, even if the aunt who bought the gray cotton-padded jacket before was dissatisfied, at most they could give her a hair ornament, which would make the aunt smile.

Jiang Sheng admired her fifth brother's intelligence more and more as she thought about it.

But didn't he suffer from amnesia?

Filled with doubt, Jiang Sheng went to sleep.

The next day, Fang Heng took her to the county to buy hair accessories and ribbons. They sold them as free gifts back in the village. Although some people thought the gray cotton-padded jacket was too expensive at fourteen coins, even more people bought it. Even aunties from several villages came over to pick them out, which saved them the trouble of moving around.

Within a few days, both the gray and floral cotton-padded jackets were sold out.

The remaining floral cotton-padded jacket, which Chang Yan had tried on, was given to Aunt Zhang by Jiang Sheng when Wen Zhiyun came to change her dressing.

Aunt Zhang was overjoyed and held up the floral cotton-padded jacket to give money.

Jiang Sheng smiled and said, "Auntie doesn't have much money either, so save it for your own use. Uncle Zhou's leg injury cost a lot of money."

That's absolutely right. Zhou Zhiqiang sprained his ankle and was bedridden for a full month and a half. Including the consultation fee and the cost of changing the medicine, it cost a total of fifty-one coins.

This was a huge sum of money for a farming family, and Aunt Zhou was so distressed that she lay in bed for several days, unable to recover.

"That won't do." Aunt Zhang didn't want to take advantage of the child, so she forced ten coins into Jiang Sheng's hand. "This is all the money I have. Please take it, good child."

Jiang Sheng had no choice but to put it in her pocket, thinking of finding an excuse to return it tomorrow.

Back to the dilapidated temple.

Wen Zhiyun was changing the dressing on Xu Mo's leg. Jiang Sheng went over to take a look, but couldn't make out anything. Luckily, she still had a mouth. "When will Big Brother be able to walk on his leg?"

Xu Mo smiled and said, "Xiao Si said it can be done today."

This is great news! Jiang Sheng's eyes widened. Fourth Brother is really good at keeping things to himself; he didn't let a word out.

She absolutely refused to admit that she had been so focused on making money that she had neglected her older brother.

After Wen Zhiyun removed the branches, disinfected them, and applied the medicine powder, she helped Xu Mo get down to feel the impact.

"You might feel a little weak due to muscle atrophy, but if it stings, don't continue," he advised.

Xu Mo nodded, and just as he placed his hand on Wen Zhiyun, he remembered something and switched to Zheng Ruqian, who was further away.

Wen Zhiyun's face immediately turned red.

Fortunately, Xu Mo was perceptive and explained in time, "Xiao Si, you are weak, I'm afraid I'll put my weight on you."

Wen Zhiyun's rosy complexion turned deathly pale again. If he could, he would not want to be weak or delicate like a girl.

Sometimes he felt that his brothers treated him with more caution than they treated his sister.

This is not what Wen Zhiyun wanted. He wanted to be a real man, a strong and upright man who could protect his sister.

After confirming that Xu Mo was not in pain when he got out of bed and could move slowly, Wen Zhiyun walked out of the dilapidated temple and came to the back of the house, which was sheltered from the wind.

Fang Heng was training in the sunlight with his arms bare, moving nimbly and skillfully, picking up, chopping and slashing.

Although he was small in stature, it did not diminish his murderous aura or his desire to tear his opponent to pieces.

By the time Fang Heng finished his routine, he was already panting heavily.

Wen Zhiyun handed over a handkerchief.

Fang Heng waved his hand, picked up the clothes from the ground, wiped them haphazardly a couple of times, and put them on again. "Why is Xiao Si here?"

"Third brother, I..." Wen Zhiyun gritted his teeth, "I want to learn kung fu from you."

"I want to become stronger. I don't want people to think I'm weak and therefore accommodate me."

Fang Heng was taken aback. He hadn't expected his brother, who was always out of breath when running, to have such ambitions. He immediately became interested and said, "Okay, I'll teach you. Start with the horse stance."

He made a gesture, and Wen Zhiyun followed suit in a very convincing manner.

"Lower your hips a little, lower them a little more, straighten your arms, yes, make it right, hold it for half an hour."

Fifteen minutes later, Wen Zhiyun fainted.

Fang Heng was dumbfounded. He picked up his fourth brother and rushed back into the dilapidated temple.

Xu Mo was still standing, no longer needing anyone's help. He was about to take a few steps on his own when a whirlwind suddenly came in, and then he saw Fang Heng put Wen Zhiyun on the straw.

"Third Brother, what happened to Fourth Brother?" Jiang Sheng jumped over, stunned. "You knocked Fourth Brother unconscious?"

Fang Heng was utterly speechless. "I didn't... it was Xiao Si. He said he wanted to learn kung fu from me, just a horse stance..."

Never mind, I won't explain anymore.

He rushed to the stove, found the still-warm water in the pot, scooped out half a bowl, and helped Wen Zhiyun to eat it.

But he was used to handling swords and spears, and he didn't know how to do such delicate work. He poured half a bowl of water in, almost choking his little brother to death.

Jiang Sheng rushed over and snatched the bowl away. "Let me do it. I'm afraid if I let Third Brother feed me, I'll lose a brother."

Fang Heng blushed and hid in a corner.

Jiang Sheng took out a clean spoon and scooped out hot water, spoonful by spoonful, and fed it to Wen Zhiyun.
