Chapter Five: Mass Grave

Soon, zombies staggered towards Mingyuan.

Their brains contain only human flesh and their beloved brain marrow; they have absolutely no intelligence.

Mingyuan held the dagger horizontally in front of him, ready for battle.

The stench of the rotting zombies was getting closer.

Terrified howls erupted from the pack of demon wolves guarding the rear.

Mingyuan's view was blocked by zombies; he could only see the wolves being thrown up by tremendous force and then crashing to the ground like trash.

The zombies ignored all that and continued to open their mouths wide, biting at the brains.

Mingyuan could only look away, and while dodging, he used his dagger to stab several zombies in the temples.

The scene was too chaotic, and a zombie took advantage of the chaos to get to his side and suddenly attacked his neck.

The rotten, maggot-infested mouth almost touched Mingyuan's skin.

The familiar touch awakened his memories of being torn apart on the battlefield.

The shoulder that was pierced back then has not yet healed.

Ultimately, the zombie's teeth failed to bite into the tender human neck.

An arrow, swift as lightning, pierced the zombie's skull from afar.

The force was so great that it sent half of the zombie's head flying off.

Mingyuan looked back in astonishment.

A slender and upright figure stood against the wind, slowly lowering the bowstring that was still twanging, and looked this way.

It was Ye Nianzhen who rushed over.

She calmly drew the string, engaged the bolt, and loaded the crossbow bolt.

One eye narrowed slightly, aiming at the zombies that were besieging Mingyuan.

The crossbow was modified; its potential energy could break through the wind.

This time, they killed three birds with one stone: they skewered several zombies.

Beside her, a huge, jet-black beast with glossy fur was tearing at the rotting wolves, driving them into a retreat.

Mingyuan was stunned for a moment.

But the zombie attack continued, as several were drawn away by Ye Nianzhen, greatly reducing the pressure on Mingyuan's side.

By the time the last zombie was pierced through the head and rendered incapacitated, Ye Nianzhen's battle was already over.

Mingyuan pulled the dagger from the zombie's head on the ground and looked up.

The crossbow in Ye Nianzhen's hand turned into a wisp of smoke and disappeared without a trace.

She wiped the blood-stained face from her cheeks and walked towards him across the mountain of corpses.

Behind her, the enormous beast followed silently, its eyes gleaming with a ghostly blue light.

Only then did Mingyuan realize that it was a large black dog, about half the height of a person, with a pair of sapphire-like eyes.

Actually, it's more like a wolf than a dog, but its obedient and steadfast demeanor led Mingyuan to believe it was a dog.

Today happens to be a full moon, and it's a rare sunny day.

A round, silvery moon slowly rose behind Ye Nianzhen as she gracefully approached, resembling a powerful and beautiful princess from a foreign land.

It makes people willingly submit.
