Rong Qingqing lifted the hem of her overly long skirt, tucked it into her belt, and walked in the direction Shangguan Yanran had left.
Not long after, they found Shangguan Yanran.
Upon seeing her, Shangguan Yanran immediately dropped her bow and arrow, approached her, and said in a low voice, "Xie Jingrun detained you. Did he do something to you?"
Rong Qingqing was both amused and exasperated, raising an eyebrow as she asked, "What do you want him to do to me?"
"I hope..." Shangguan Yanran quickly stopped herself, "What's the use of hoping? I can't witness it in person!"
Rong Qingqing: "..."
She took a deep breath and realized she had made a lecherous friend.
Be careful not to get a sty!
Shangguan Yanran smiled enigmatically, "Are you indirectly admitting that there's something between you and Xie Jingrun?"
Rong Qingqing paused, then sighed, "I've discovered you really have a wicked sense of humor. Let's hurry up and start hunting, otherwise we'll lose and be punished."
Hearing her say that, Shangguan Yanran also remembered and quickly picked up her bow and arrows, "Then let's go hunting!"
That's what they said, but neither of them had much hunting experience, and they hadn't caught a single one after half a day.
After seeing Xie Jingrun hit several more prey, the two simply threw away their bows and arrows and followed behind him, helping him retrieve the game.
Almost every prey was pierced through the throat by a single arrow.
Shangguan Yanran picked up a pheasant and noticed the arrow stuck in it. An idea struck her. She glanced at Rong Qingqing, who was catching a rabbit in the grass not far away, and a cunning glint flashed in her eyes. Suddenly, she said to Xie Jingrun, "Lord Xie, how about we make a bet?"
Xie Jingrun didn't even glance at her. His slender fingers drew back the bowstring, aiming at a rabbit in front of him.
The moment the rabbit darted out from behind the tree, he released his grip, and the sharp arrow shot out with lightning speed.
"puff!"
A running rabbit was hit by an arrow and fell to the ground, unable to get up.
Shangguan Yanran felt a chill run down her spine.
"The bet!" Xie Jingrun still didn't look at her; his gaze was fixed on the girl crouching in the grass, trying to catch a rabbit alive.
Shangguan Yanran followed his gaze, her smile deepening. "Qingqing."
Rong Qingqing thought she was being called, so she quickly raised her index finger to signal her to keep quiet, and then pounced on the rabbit while it was eating grass.
The little rabbit had actually noticed her long ago and disappeared in an instant.
Rong Qingqing missed her target and was about to get up when a pair of black boots appeared in front of her.
She looked up and saw Xie Jingrun looking down at her, his handsome face full of disdain.
Rong Qingqing simply sat down on the grass. "What?"
Xie Jingrun pulled a rabbit out from behind him and handed it to her.
Seeing the little rabbit struggling in his hand, Rong Qingqing's eyes lit up, and she immediately reached out and took it. "How did you catch it?"
"I have plenty of ways." Seeing the girl's happy expression, Xie Jingrun's lips curled up slightly.
Upon hearing this, Rong Qingqing pursed her lips. "What are you showing off for? It's just catching a rabbit, right? There are plenty of ways to do it. Doesn't that mean you're saying I'm stupid and can't even catch a rabbit?" She tugged at the rabbit's ear.
"Then why can't you catch it?" Xie Jingrun glanced at her, picked up his bow and arrow, and left.
Rong Qingqing scoffed, looking at the rabbit with its drooping ears and dejected appearance. Suddenly, an idea struck her, and she said to the little rabbit, "What kind of name should I give you? Runrun, Xiaoxiu?"
Xie Jingrun, who hadn't gone far, stumbled upon hearing this and nearly fell.
He turned abruptly, staring at her dangerously. "What did you call it?"
Rong Qingqing blinked, stroked the little rabbit's head, and said with a smile, "My lord, which name do you think is better for it, Runrun or Xiaoxiu? I think both names are very cute. Please advise, my lord."
