"What do you mean 'small matter'? I've hated taking medicine since I was a child. It's so bitter and smelly, and I have to drink it three times a day. You might as well let my butt rot away." Shangguan Yanran was so angry that she spoke without thinking.
Fu Rongchen looked at her with a gloomy expression. "What nonsense are you talking about?"
"None of your business?" Shangguan Yanran pushed him away and started to walk out.
Fu Rongchen's temple throbbed, and he suddenly reached out and grabbed her wrist.
"You think you can just leave after you've finished flirting with me?" he said in a deep voice, anger etched on his brow. "You came to Xuzhou for me, and now you want to run away over something so trivial. Yanran, can't you stop being so willful?"
Upon hearing this, Shangguan Yanran felt very uncomfortable, and her words were undeniably barbed, "I am just that willful, so what? Besides, who said I came to Xuzhou for you? Fu Rongchen, don't flatter yourself!"
"Am I just being presumptuous?" Fu Rongchen frowned and remained silent for a moment. Suddenly, he looked down at the paper package in his hand, then remembered something and stuffed the package into her hand. "Go back and have breakfast first. It's all your favorite food. If you really want to go back to the capital, I'll send someone to take you back tomorrow when you're feeling better. I'm worried about you going back alone. How about you stay in Xuzhou for another day?"
Shangguan Yanran originally thought he would be angry after hearing what she said, but to her surprise, he was not angry at all. Instead, he spoke gently and sweetly, and—
She looked at the paper package in her hand and hesitated for a moment before saying, "Are these all my favorite breakfast items?"
"It's steamed buns from Li's shop and pastries from Su's shop." Fu Rongchen paused, then said somewhat uncertainly, "I saw you eating them every day the other day, so you must like them, right?"
Upon hearing this, Shangguan Yanran felt a complex mix of emotions.
So Fu Rongchen thought she liked to eat it, so he went out early in the morning to buy it for her?
She felt a mix of indescribable gratitude and shame.
She does seem to be too willful.
"I..." She bit her lip, her eyes darting around, somewhat afraid to look at him.
Seeing her standing there obediently, looking somewhat conflicted and ashamed, Fu Rongchen's expression softened. He took her fingers and said gently, "Go inside, or it will get cold and won't taste good."
"Oh." Shangguan Yanran obediently let him lead her into the government office.
As she stepped over the high threshold, she aggravated her injury and hissed softly. Fu Rongchen heard her, turned around, picked her up, and easily carried her inside.
Upon entering, Shangguan Yanran was somewhat surprised to see that he had no intention of putting her down and appeared quite composed. He looked rather thin, yet he was surprisingly strong.
The thought of strength inadvertently triggered other thoughts in her mind, and her face flushed red.
She secretly regretted that her thoughts were too impure, always thinking about things that didn't belong to her.
How embarrassing!
Looking at the head buried in his arms, Fu Rongchen's lips curled up, his heart filled with a feeling of fullness and satisfaction.
Back in her room, Shangguan Yanran felt hungry and couldn't wait to open the paper package and start eating breakfast.
Seeing Fu Rongchen sitting beside her watching her eat, she suddenly felt a little embarrassed. She pursed her lips and said, "You should eat too."
"I've already eaten," Fu Rongchen said. "You should eat now."
"Oh." Shangguan Yanran had no choice but to eat by herself. Then, as if remembering something, she hesitated and whispered, "What I said outside the door just now was just said in anger. You can't take it seriously."
Fu Rongchen was taken aback for a moment, then looked at her intently, "So you really came to Xuzhou for me? And I'm not just being presumptuous?"
