Chapter 173 Survival in a Desperate Situation, Hope Fades

Acid rain lashed at the ruins like a whip, and a suffocating despair filled the air. Mu Xue wiped the rain from her face and looked at her wounded companions, feeling as if a huge boulder was pressing on her heart.

Ning Yu remained unconscious, his pale face devoid of color, the faint rise and fall of his chest the only sign of life. To protect everyone, he had fought alone against the mutated beast horde, ultimately collapsing from exhaustion.

"Captain, how much longer can we hold out?" A team member's voice was hoarse and weak; his arm, bitten by a mutated beast, was now oozing blood. The others remained silent; they were all exhausted, their wounds burning from the acid rain.

Yes, how much longer can they hold on?

Food was running out, medicine was nearly exhausted, and on this land ravaged by nuclear war, only endless danger and despair awaited them.

Mu Xue's gaze swept over each team member. Their eyes were filled with exhaustion and confusion, but even more so with a desire to live. She knew she couldn't fall; she was their captain, their hope.

“Follow me.” Mu Xue pointed to the indistinct outline of buildings in the distance, her tone firm. “We might find what we need there.”

Following her gaze, everyone saw the outline of a building faintly visible through the thick rain, like a lighthouse in the storm, bringing them a glimmer of hope.

"But Captain, can we still walk?" One of the team members pointed to his injured leg with a wry smile. "Besides, who knows what dangers lie ahead?"

His words resonated with the other team members, who were exhausted and just wanted to find a place to escape the damn acid rain.

"We can't wait any longer!" Mu Xue's voice was filled with an undeniable determination. "Ning Yu needs treatment, we need food and water, we must survive!"

She bent down, carried Ning Yu on her back, and walked forward resolutely.

"Wait for me, Captain!" The team members supported each other and struggled to follow behind her.

In the rain, they staggered along, like a group of ants struggling to survive in a storm.

The building ahead was getting closer, but danger was also approaching.

"Watch out! Energy field!" the team member in front exclaimed, his body flying uncontrollably to the side.

With a deafening roar, the ground collapsed, revealing a dark, gaping hole...

"Be careful, everyone!" Mu Xue shouted a warning, her eyes fixed on the front. She could feel that hope was right in front of her, but at the same time, she also felt a strange unease, as if an invisible pair of eyes were hiding in the shadows, coldly watching their every move...

"What's that... up ahead?" A team member's voice trembled, filled with fear.

Mu Xue followed his gaze, her pupils contracting sharply. Less than a hundred meters away, a massive black shadow stood in the rain, like a lurking monster. It emanated a chilling energy fluctuation, and the faint glint of metal could be seen flashing in the lightning—it was… a crashed steel behemoth!

“It’s…it’s a pre-war bomber!” A team member recognized the thing, his voice distorted with fear. “I’ve heard old people say that these giant steel birds are demons that bring destruction…”

The team members immediately stirred, fear spreading like a plague among them. They were already exhausted, and now they had to face this horrific relic from before the war, which was undoubtedly adding insult to injury.

"Let's take a detour, Captain!"

"Yes, we're exhausted. Let's take a detour..."

The team members tried to persuade him, after all, everyone was exhausted and no one wanted to risk their life.

"Take a detour?" Mu Xue gave a bitter smile, looking around. Apart from the endless ruins, the only place with the bomber wreckage was on higher ground, where they might be able to take temporary shelter. She took a deep breath and said firmly, "It's too late. We must find a place to rest as soon as possible. Ning Yu won't last much longer."

After saying that, she ignored the advice of others and walked straight toward the wreckage of the bomber.

The team members looked at each other, but in the end they gritted their teeth and followed.

Shortly after setting off, the team encountered a new problem. One member, exhausted, lost his footing and fell to the ground.

"ah!"

The screams sounded particularly jarring in the rain.

"Third brother!"

"Quickly, pull him up!"

Fortunately, the other team members reacted quickly and pulled him out of the hole.

"Cough cough..." The rescued team member, still shaken, gasped for breath. "Thank... thank you, brothers..."

"Be careful, this place is full of traps!" Mu Xue warned.

The team continued forward, each step incredibly difficult. As they approached the massive bomber wreckage, an invisible pressure arose. Mu Xue clearly felt her supernatural abilities gradually weakening, as if suppressed by something.

"Captain, my fireball... I can't release it!" a fire-type ability user cried out in terror.

"My wind blades are malfunctioning too!" Another team member also noticed the anomaly.

"Damn it, it's an energy magnetic field!" Mu Xue's expression changed. "There's a strong energy magnetic field interfering with our abilities here!"

This means they will lose their last resort and can only rely on their mortal bodies to fight against the unknown dangers...

Mu Xue took a deep breath and looked up at the approaching steel behemoth, a sense of foreboding washing over her.
