Mu Xue withdrew her hand, and Ning Yu's pale face appeared even weaker in the dim light. She gritted her teeth, knowing that her teammates were right; they needed a relatively safe place to recover their strength, even if it was just a short rest.
"Is there anywhere nearby where I can hide?" Mu Xue looked around, her gaze sweeping across the desolate Gobi Desert, hoping to find some shelter.
"There seems to be a pile of boulders ahead; maybe it can block out the wind," another team member said, pointing into the distance.
The group dragged their weary bodies toward the pile of rubble. However, upon closer inspection, they discovered it was merely a low expanse of loose stones, utterly incapable of protecting against large predators. Moreover, there was no water or vegetation nearby, making the environment extremely harsh.
“This won’t do, it’s too dangerous.” One of the team members shook his head and said desperately, “We have nowhere to hide.”
Mu Xue understood that such an environment made it impossible for them to safely spend the night. However, they were exhausted and had no better choice.
"Let's rest here for a bit," Mu Xue said, her voice tinged with exhaustion. "We need to recover our strength quickly and find a safer place before dark."
The team members nodded silently, sat down against the rocks, and warily watched their surroundings. However, before they could even catch their breath, a series of low, guttural roars echoed from afar, voices like demons from hell, sending chills down their spines…
"Oh no, they..." A team member pointed in terror in the direction of the sound, and before he could finish speaking, he suddenly stood up.
"Oh no, they're back!" The team member's voice trembled slightly, and fear spread through the crowd like a plague. The plan to take a short rest was completely disrupted by this sudden roar. Everyone gripped their weapons tightly, staring nervously in the direction from which the sound came.
"Don't panic, everyone!" Mu Xue shouted, trying to calm the team down. "Stand together and prepare for battle!"
Although she herself was filled with unease, she knew that panic would be their biggest enemy at that moment.
On the desolate Gobi Desert, the wind and sand raged, whipping up clouds of dust. The last rays of the setting sun cast long shadows on the group, adding to the somber atmosphere. In the distance, the low, guttural roars grew closer, like drums pounding on everyone's hearts, making it almost impossible to breathe.
"They're here!" a team member exclaimed. Several huge mutated hyenas appeared in their field of vision, their eyes gleaming with greed, and saliva dripping from between their sharp fangs, carrying a corrosive liquid that made a "sizzling" sound on the ground.
A fierce battle is about to break out.
"cover!"
At Mu Xue's command, the team members raised their weapons, energy beams piercing the night sky as they engaged the onrushing mutated hyenas in fierce combat. Gunshots, roars, and the howls of wild beasts mingled together, creating a tragic symphony of survival in the apocalypse.
However, exhaustion and injuries severely hampered their fighting ability. Everyone was wounded, and ammunition was running low, making the situation precarious.
Mu Xue brandished her energy sword, cleaving a mutated hyena that attempted to ambush her in two. But soon, more mutated creatures surged in from all directions, surrounding her completely.
"Damn it!" Mu Xue cursed under her breath. She was already severely exhausted, but she knew she couldn't fall. She was the backbone of this team. If even she gave up, then death would be all that awaited them.
Just then, Mu Xue suddenly discovered a strange plant in a nearby corner...
