"Don't look at me. My mom's biggest expectation for us is that we don't waste our youth and don't let ourselves down."
“My godmother is really great, and I want to be like her.”
Lu Ming looked up at her and said slowly, "Then you really need to work harder."
Li Qingran replied irritably, "I know, you don't need to remind me. I know I'm worlds apart from my godmother, but I'll work harder in the future, just be careful I don't lose my first place."
Lu Ming smiled slightly, "I'm looking forward to it."
Lin Wanwan came over and called the two of them to eat.
"Stop looking and hurry up and eat. Grandma and Auntie made lots of delicious food."
Do you have sweet and sour pork ribs?
Lin Wanwan looked at him and smiled, "Of course there are. How could I not have my favorite dishes?"
Li Qingran followed behind him and whispered, "You like sweet and sour pork ribs too?"
"I don't like it, but my mom does."
"You and your godmother have such a good relationship."
Lu Ming paused for a moment. "You and your aunt don't get along?"
He suddenly stopped, and Li Qingran almost bumped into his back. "Of course you have a good relationship, but it feels like you and your godmother are more like friends."
"My mom is my best friend."
During the meal, He Yumei kept putting food on Li Qingran's plate.
"You and your daughter, please don't stand on ceremony. Make yourselves at home and eat more. What does Qingran like to eat? Tell Grandma, and Grandma will cook for you next time."
Li Qingran looked at the bowl full of food and nodded, "Grandma, I love it all."
After finishing their meal, the mother and daughter were about to leave when Lin Wanwan stood up as well, saying, "Mom and Dad, I'm leaving too. I have so many things to do."
Lin Jianbang nodded. "Okay, you go ahead with your work. I heard from Lu Feng that you've been even busier than him lately, staying up all night. Let me tell you, this won't do. Your health is the most important thing. Don't ruin it."
"Dad, I understand. Why is Lu Feng still complaining? I know what I'm doing and I won't ruin my health."
“Your dad works so hard, and he’s only had a little free time these past two years, so he’s started nagging you. But you still need to take care of your health and not worry us.”
"Okay, Mom, I'll be careful. I'm leaving now. I'll come see you with Lu Feng this weekend."
Once outside, Lin Wanwan asked Lu Ming to drive her, saying, "You can take me to my workplace first, and then take Aunt Zou and Qingran home."
Lu Ming nodded without saying anything.
The car was driven very smoothly. Lin Wanwan was a little sleepy, so she turned around and gave instructions to Li Qingran.
"Come to my house for lessons tomorrow morning. The teacher I arranged will arrive at nine o'clock. I'll have Uncle Li pick you up."
"Ah... Godmother, no need, I'll just ride my bike there."
Lin Wanwan didn't press her, but simply reminded her to ride slowly and be careful on the road.
Lu Ming drove the car to the main gate of his workplace, and Lin Wanwan, holding her bag, gave him some instructions.
"Drive slowly and take Aunt Zou and Qingran home."
"Okay, Mom, you can go inside now, it's sunny outside."
Lin Wanwan waved to the group and turned to enter the office.
As soon as I stepped into the office building, Cheng Jinyan called me to a stop.
"Have you finished your business? Why are you back?"
"No."
Lin Wanwan answered as she followed her into the office.
Cheng Jinyan poured her a cup of tea. "It's freshly brewed; it's your favorite Pu'er tea."
Lin Wanwan held the cup to her nose and smelled it. "It smells so good."
After drinking two cups of tea, Lin Wanwan began to recount the events of the day.
"The school doesn't want to contact either side. Zhang Jun is a shrewd person, and the Zhou family is not someone you can easily offend."
"So how do you plan to handle this?" Cheng Jinyan continued making tea.
“This great city of Beijing looks enormous, but in reality, the relationships are incredibly complex. It just so happens that I do a lot of business here, and recently the Zhou family wants to cooperate with our technology company.”
"Are you planning to stop?"
"Stop what? It hasn't even started."
Cheng Jinyan smiled.
Lin Wanwan picked up her phone and dialed a number.
"Brother Ren, is the tech company currently in talks with the Zhou family about a collaboration?"
"Yes, that's true. What happened?"
"How did the talks go?"
"The Zhou family is not a very good partner. Their business model is outdated and completely different from our company's business philosophy. Although they have no problem with funds, their internal structure is chaotic. There is no problem with cooperation, but there may be many conflicts later."
"Currently, Mr. Li, Mr. Zhang, and I are also considering this issue. We were originally planning to have a meeting with you in the next couple of days. Zhou Ming from the Zhou family and Lu Feng are childhood friends, and the Zhou family has deep connections in Beijing. If we want to cooperate, there is no problem. It's just that there might be some trouble later."
"Then we don't need to consider our relationship; company partnerships should definitely be based on merit."
Ren Zijie was silent for a moment. "Is something the matter? But since you've put it that way, let's put the cooperation with the Zhou family on hold for now. I've got my eye on a newly established company. It certainly doesn't have the Zhou family's financial resources and connections, but it far surpasses the Zhou family in other aspects."
"Then let's take another look. Our cooperation needs to be considered in the long term."
Ren Zijie smiled and said, "Okay, since you put it that way, then we definitely have no problem with that. If you have time this weekend, come to the company. I'd like to give you a separate report on the company's situation."
"Okay, I'll go there on Saturday morning."
After hanging up the phone, Lin Wanwan saw Cheng Jinyan looking at her with a half-smile.
Lin Wanwan asked, looking completely bewildered, "What's wrong? Did I just do something?"
"Chairman, isn't this considered settling a personal score?"
Lin Wanwan shrugged. "The Zhou family was never the best choice. What do you mean by settling personal scores? Zhou Ming said he would handle this, but there hasn't been a word from him in a day. I can't just sit here and wait to die."
“This is just a fight between two kids; you could have simply stayed out of it.”
“I could easily have intervened, and I wouldn’t have cared if the school expelled that girl, but my conscience wouldn’t allow it. I work so hard, earn money, and build connections, not to bully others or get ahead like a petty person.”
Cheng Jinyan smiled and said, "After knowing you for so many years, I still feel that you are the same passionate young girl you used to be."
"A young woman in her thirties?" Lin Wanwan looked at him strangely.
"How is your foundation running? Do you need any help?"
"Not for now. Things are on track now. We've been sponsoring over a thousand students, and several of them have been admitted to top universities. I'm very pleased."
"You've seen them?"
"Not yet. I originally wanted to meet them, since they were among the first group of people I sponsored, but I thought about it and decided against it. I was afraid it would be a burden for them. I don't expect anything in return for helping them; my biggest hope is that they can live up to their efforts."
"Are you very happy?" Cheng Jinyan asked, staring at her beaming face.
"Of course, I've done my best to help them, and that's enough for me."
After finishing her tea, Lin Wanwan stood up. "I'm going back to work. I'm checking on things that I arranged this morning to see if anything went wrong."
Cheng Jinyan nodded. "Thank you for your hard work, Director Lin."
"It's no trouble at all, Director Cheng. I'm at your service, Director Cheng."
After saying that, he gave him a funny salute and ran away.
