Chapter 322 The Long Journey

Looking at the child she had raised, Lin Wanwan felt a mix of relief and sadness.

"Now that you're all grown up, Mom hopes you'll do what you want to do. Don't worry about anything else. Your dad and I work so hard so that you can do whatever you want."

Your dad and I will take care of everything. You two can go do what you want.

Lu Ming's eyes flickered, and for a moment he didn't know what to say.

When are you leaving?

"September."

Lin Wanwan raised an eyebrow. "There's still a month and a half left. If I don't ask you today, when are you planning to tell me about this?"

Lu Ming pursed his lips and remained silent, his head bowed.

Lin Wanwan sighed, "Go find your dad. He's waiting for you in his study and says he wants to talk to you."

Lu Ming leaned closer to her and whispered, "Mom, I didn't mean to. I wanted to tell you sooner, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I was afraid you would blame me for taking matters into my own hands."

Lin Wanwan waved her hand to interrupt him, "I know, no need to say anything. You are my son, how could I not know what kind of person you are? Go find your father right now."

Lu Ming knew she would never be angry with him, but he felt inexplicably guilty.

Seeing him standing there without moving, Lin Wanwan sighed, "You have no idea how proud your father is of you. You and your father are practically identical in personality. You never say whether you're happy or not. He's proud of you, but he can't hold back his words. Your father has old-fashioned ideas and thinks a man should be upright and responsible. He doesn't mean anything by it, so you don't need to feel too much pressure."

Lin Wanwan chuckled, “The family needs you, but we don’t depend on you to eat. Don’t feel pressured. You are all excellent in my eyes. Look at your brother, we never ask you to become any particular kind of person. As long as you have good character and don’t do anything illegal, that’s enough.”

Lu Ming nodded gently, "Mom, thank you."

"Sigh, how many times have I said thank you today?"

Lin Wanwan waved her hand, "Hurry up and go, you're keeping me from writing."

Lu Ming put his arm around her shoulder and said, "Mom, it's a good thing you married Dad, and it's a good thing you're my mom."

Lin Wanwan was clearly taken aback for a moment, then gently patted his arm. "Thank you for being my child, and thank you for all these years for raising me and helping me become a barely qualified mother."

Lu Ming's eyes were a little red, and after a while, he said with a choked voice, "In Xiao Jing's and my eyes, you are a perfect mother. Thank you for raising us so well."

Lin Wanwan looked up and laughed, "Sir, are you praising me or yourselves?"

Lu Ming was amused by her and put his arm around her without saying a word.

Lin Wanwan patted him on the shoulder, "Go on, I'll cook you something delicious for lunch."

Lu Ming nodded and walked out, closing the door quietly behind him.

After the person left, Lin Wanwan sat back down in her chair and sighed softly.

Lin Wanwan didn't know what the father and son talked about. When they came down for lunch, they seemed normal and probably hadn't argued.

During dinner, Lu Ming mentioned his plans to go abroad. Song Lanzhi, being older, was stunned when she heard that he was suddenly going so far away, and tears streamed down her face.

Lin Wanwan quickly comforted her, "Mom, Lu Ming is gone, but he's not not coming back. Aren't we at home?"

"What's so great about foreign countries? Xiaoming finally came back from Anyang, why is he still thinking about going abroad again?"

Lu Anyang advised, "Mom, times have changed. Xiaoming needs to go out and see the world because of the major he's studying."

Song Lanzhi wiped away her tears and ultimately said nothing.

After seeing Lu Ming off, Lin Wanwan returned home feeling like her soul had been ripped out. Lu Feng hugged her and comforted her.

"You used to try to persuade Mom, but now you're like this yourself."

Lin Wanwan said softly, "He has never left my sight since he was a child. Even when he was in college and lived on campus, he could still come back once a month. Now, it's a question whether I can see him even once a year."

"You were the one who said that when children grow up, you have to let go, and you even advised me not to interfere too much with his decisions. Now you've turned into Lin Daiyu?"

Lin Wanwan angrily punched him, "You're the one who's like Lin Daiyu! Don't mind me, I'll be fine in a bit."

Just when she had finally gotten used to Lu Ming not being home, Lu Jing was going abroad, and with the children leaving one by one, Lin Wanwan realized that she really seemed to be getting old.

That night, Lin Wanwan couldn't fall asleep. She thought about the time when she first woke up in this world. Those days seemed so far away, yet also like they had just happened.

She didn't know if this was a dream, that she died here but was awake in the original world.

"Why aren't you asleep yet?" Lu Feng reached out and hugged her.

A warm voice came from behind her, and Lin Wanwan's thoughts gradually returned.

"No, it's really hard to adjust to having both of my kids gone all at once. Two years ago, Tuanzi went abroad, and Xiaojing came home from time to time, so I didn't feel anything was wrong."

"It's okay. If you miss them now, you can go anytime."

Lin Wanwan turned around and hugged him, sighing as she leaned against his chest. "I feel like I'm dreaming. Xiao Jing and Tuanzi are so grown up. It feels like I just got married to you."

After a while, Lu Feng's low laughter came from behind.

"If you like, we can have another wedding."

Lin Wanwan was speechless. "I don't have that idea."

For a while, neither of them spoke.

"Lu Feng..."

"Do you think we're happy like this?"

"Of course, I love you, you love me, and we have two sons. It's not just happiness, it's extreme happiness."

Lin Wanwan held him and fell asleep in no time. Before falling asleep, she was thinking that she hoped she could be happy in the other world, a different kind of happiness.
