Chapter 37 Work

"Why can't I say it? Wanwan is my daughter. If you dare to bully my daughter, I'll fight you to the death," Xu Zhang glared at Lu Feng.

“Auntie, I am sincere towards Wanwan and take our marriage very seriously. If I say I will treat her well for the rest of my life, it sounds like I am lying. A thousand words are not as good as my actions to prove that I am serious,” Lu Feng stood up and looked at her earnestly.

As soon as Lin Wanwan came out, she noticed the atmosphere was a bit awkward. "Have you eaten? What's wrong? Something seems off. Did something happen?"

Xu Zhang immediately turned around and said with a smile, "What could it be? That your Uncle Gu is shameless and wants you as his daughter."

“I am your and Uncle Gu’s daughter. I’m the one who’s getting the better deal. You and Uncle Gu are so powerful,” Lin Wanwan said, reaching out to take Xu Zhang’s hand.

Xu Zhang slapped her hand away. "Take it away. It's all oil. Your dad will be furious if he finds out. When you were little, your Uncle Gu always taught you to call him 'Dad,' and your dad beat you up several times for it."

Lin Wanwan almost burst out laughing. So her dad used to be so cheerful!

Gu Changfeng touched his nose and said, "Let's eat, not eat."

“Yes, let’s eat,” Lin Wanwan said, trying to smooth things over. “I’m starving. I just had an argument with someone and it took all my energy.”

"What's going on with Xiao Ju?" Xu Zhang asked, frowning.

"It's just some unrelated woman who said that Lu Feng and I were together before Tuanzi's mother died, and then she and someone else killed Tuanzi's mother," Lin Wanwan said helplessly, before she could finish her sentence.

Xu Zhang slammed his hand on the table and said in a deep voice, "Nonsense! How can you say such things? Do you and Lu Feng even care about your reputations? Why do you associate yourselves with all sorts of demons and monsters?" After saying that, he glared at Gu Changfeng with a sidelong glance.

"What are you saying? Don't talk nonsense!" Gu Changfeng said with a stern face.

Xu Zhang didn't mince words either, "Am I wrong? It's utterly chaotic."

Seeing that the two were about to argue, Lin Wanwan immediately interrupted and said in a coquettish tone, "Oh dear, don't argue, hurry up and eat. I've been cooking for so long, my hands are sore. Let's eat quickly."

Xu Zhang glared at her, annoyed. "How can you be so ungrateful? I'm helping you get justice."

Lin Wanwan smiled and said, "I know, Aunt Xu. I know you love me, but I'm not someone to be trifled with, and I'm not someone to be bullied."

"Let's eat, you guys don't have to be shy," Gu Changfeng urged Lu Feng and the others to eat.

"Don't worry, Wanwan knows what she's doing, and Mingde will handle Xiao Ju's matter, so you can rest assured."

Jiang Mingde was inwardly distressed. Wasn't this just creating a difficult problem for him? Xiao Ju was Xiao Hongjun's sister, and he couldn't very well drive her away and prevent her from joining the army.

"Don't worry, sir, I will handle this matter properly," Jiang Mingde said with a bitter face.

Gu Changfeng didn't know whether others were happy or not, but he was very happy. He had always wanted a daughter, but his wife was a workaholic like him, and they only had one son, Gu Bei.

When Lin Wanwan was little, she was chubby and rosy-cheeked, perfectly fulfilling Gu Changfeng's expectations for a daughter. Now that she's grown up, she's elegant and lovely in a cheongsam. I wish she were my daughter.

"Daughter, your cooking is really good. These dishes are all delicious. It seems I'm lucky to have a daughter," Gu Changfeng said happily as he ate.

"Then I'll come over for meals often from now on. Xu Mama's steamed eggs are really delicious, especially fragrant," Lin Wanwan said with great satisfaction. She wasn't just flattering Xu Zhang; the food was genuinely good, and she felt a sense of contentment from the taste.

Seeing her eating with such satisfaction, Xu Zhang felt that she was still the same as when she was a child. "If you like to eat, come often. I'll cook for you. Seeing you like this, I feel like you haven't grown up yet. I missed more than ten years of your growth. Remember to come and visit me often in the future."

Seeing her sadness, Lin Wanwan immediately comforted her, "I'll come often in the future, so please don't find us annoying, Uncle Gu and I."

Lin Wanwan held the child and tried to amuse her, "Tuanzi, call me Grandma, okay? Grandma is sad, cheer her up."

Xu Zhang kept a straight face, unable to like the child at all. "He's so young, how can he greet people?"

"She can call me 'Mommy'," Lin Wanwan said proudly. "Tuanzi, call me 'Mommy'!"

Tuanzi was very cooperative, calling out, "Mommy~ Mommy~".

"Oh, you're such a good boy, you know it's your mom, right?" Lin Wanwan kissed his cheek.

"See? It can really call out now!"

Xu Zhang was not happy at all. "She's so good at coaxing people at such a young age. I wonder who she takes after."

“Of course, it’s like me. I have a sweet tongue and I’m the best at sweet-talking people,” Lin Wanwan said with a grin as she leaned closer.

Xu Zhang couldn't help but laugh out loud at her antics. "You're all smiles. Are you full? Let me hold the baby. I'm done eating."

“Okay, Tuanzi, go get a hug from Grandma, Mommy’s going to eat,” Lin Wanwan handed the child to Xu Zhang.

Tuanzi immediately pouted and was about to cry, but Lin Wanwan quickly comforted him, "Don't cry, this is Grandma, you know? Don't cry, Grandma loves you, that's why she's hugging you."

After Lin Wanwan finished speaking, Tuanzi stopped crying, but still pouted with a wronged look on her face.

“He does listen to you,” Xu Zhang said, watching their interaction.

While eating her steamed egg custard, Lin Wanwan said, "He's very smart. He knows who's good to him."

Xu Zhang felt a little relieved and asked her, "What are your plans for the future? Do you want to work? You graduated from high school, finding a job is not a problem."

Lin Wanwan obediently replied, "After graduating from high school, what kind of job can I do? I'd like to take care of Tuanzi, is that okay?"

"Why not? Do you want to stay home and take care of the kids for the rest of your life?" Xu Zhang said, dissatisfied.

"No, that's not it. I want to be like you, taking care of the family and working at the same time," Lin Wanwan flattered.

Xu Zhang glared at Gu Changfeng and said, "Did you hear that? You were calling me 'daughter' just now. Now you know what to do, right?"

Everyone at the table laughed. Gu Changfeng wasn't annoyed. "My daughter has both looks and education. Why would she be worried about not having a job?"

"Don't just talk the talk. There are so many people at the table listening. If you mess this up, we'll laugh at you."

"Don't worry, don't worry, I know what I'm doing," Gu Changfeng said, having finished his meal and then coming over to hold the child.

The little dumpling was very cooperative and obediently let him hold it.

“This child looks like Lu Feng, with a heroic air about him,” Gu Changfeng said with a loving smile.

“What can you tell from such a young child? He hasn’t fully grown yet,” Xu Zhang said, touching his little face.

Seeing that Xu Zhang's attitude had softened, Lin Wanwan joked, "Tuanzi can stay with her grandparents from now on, so that Mommy can have more fun too."

"You wish! It's your own child, you should raise him yourself," Xu Zhang finally smiled.

Gu Changfeng immediately said, "I think it's a good idea. Let's keep it at our house. It'll be so much fun, right, Tuanzi? Grandpa will take you fishing next time, okay?"

Tuanzi couldn't speak, she just hugged his neck and giggled.
