Chapter 77 Leaving the Capital

Song Lanzhi said with a smile, "Then let's wait for him. Why isn't he out yet?"

"Mom, you guys go ahead. There's no room in the car anyway. Lu Feng and I will walk there."

Song Lanzhi refused, saying, "It's far over there. Let him go by himself. You can squeeze in with us."

Lu Feng arrived just in time to hear Song Lanzhi's words, and said with a hint of helplessness, "Mom~ Am I really your son? Why are you like this?"

Song Lanzhi rolled her eyes at him, "Why don't you feel sorry for Wanwan? She's come all this way with you, and you're willing to let her go?"

Lu Feng said helplessly, "Mom, we'll walk and wait for Uncle Li to pick us up. You two go first."

Gu Bei also took leave from school and came out. Lin Wanwan was pleasantly surprised to see him. "Brother, why are you out too? Did you take leave?"

"Yeah, I took leave to come out. How about it, top student? Happy after the exam?"

Before Lin Wanwan could say anything, Lin Xiaohai said, "My sister doesn't see me at all. She only has eyes for my brother. Where does she put me?"

Lin Wanwan ignored him completely and looked at Gu Bei, replying, "I'm happy! Now I'm just waiting for the admission notice. This is the first year, and it's incredibly competitive. If I don't pass, I'll just take the exam again next year. Anyway, I'm still young."

Qian Qian looked at her and asked, "You two have finished your exams, right? You have to go back to the army, right? Is Wanwan going back too?"

Everyone was watching her, and Lin Wanwan felt immense pressure. "Go back, go with Lu Feng, and we'll come back when the acceptance letter arrives."

Song Lanzhi frowned. "Are you spending the New Year there too? It's so cold there."

Lu Feng smiled wryly, "Mom, when I spent Chinese New Year in the army, why didn't you feel sorry for me?"

"Why should I feel sorry for you when you're so thick-skinned? Wanwan, don't go. Just stay home. The admission notice will be issued soon."

"Mom, it won't be that fast. But Lu Feng and I are going to the military base. If we can't make it back for the New Year, you'll have to spend it alone at home. We'll make it up to you when we get back to Beijing."

Song Lanzhi waved her hand, "Why are you saying all this? I'm fine spending the New Year alone, but you'll suffer if you go there. It's so cold over there."

Qian Qian thought for a moment and said, "If Lanzhi doesn't mind, why don't you move in for the New Year? Your Uncle Xu and I are not outsiders. If you come over, it will be more lively for us. Changfeng and Zhangzhang are going back to the army, so it will just be the two of us old folks at home."

Song Lanzhi thought for a moment, "Wouldn't that be too much of a disturbance? I'm fine at home by myself."

Lin Wanwan originally wanted to invite Song Lanzhi to spend the New Year in Gansu Province, but after thinking about the weather there, she decided against it.

Xu Zhang thought it was feasible, "Sister, don't refuse. You and Tuanzi can move in and stay with them until they come home. They won't bring the child with them, so you can enjoy some time alone together."

Song Lanzhi still felt it wasn't a good idea. "Wouldn't it be too much of a disturbance if I went over? I'll just stay home by myself."

Xu Zhe waved his hand and said, "What's the big deal? If anyone asks, just say you're our goddaughter, here to spend the New Year with us old folks."

He Yumei also said with a smile, "I was worried that you would spend the New Year alone. I was thinking of inviting you to my house for the New Year, but I know your personality, so I haven't brought it up yet. Why don't you go to Uncle Xu's house for the New Year? I'm worried about you being alone at home."

Lin Wanwan also said, "Mom, you should go. It'll be more lively over there. Grandma's cooking is delicious."

Hearing that she still couldn't resist praising herself, Qian Qian smiled and said, "Why don't Yu Mei come to our house for the New Year too? They're all leaving soon, and we can't have a quiet New Year like this. Let's all get together and celebrate. You're all my goddaughters, so let's all have some fun together."

"Go ahead, go ahead," Lin Wanwan said, to be honest, she was also worried about her grandparents spending the New Year alone at home.

He Yumei smiled and said, "Okay, then the three families will live together. When Xiao Hai is on vacation, we'll move over and have some fun together."

With the matter settled, Xu Zhang was completely relieved. He had been worried that his parents would come to cause trouble if Xu Jinyang's family came to their house, but now he had nothing to worry about.

With a hurt expression, Gu Bei said, "Grandpa and Grandma, you haven't forgotten about me, have you?"

Xu Zhe said with a smile, "You can't forget anyone."

Lin Wanwan smiled like a little fox and continued, "Brother, when you come back from your holiday, I'll ask you to tutor Xiaohai."

Lin Xiaohai sighed, "This damn homework."

After finishing dinner, the group first took the Xu family to the Xu family, and then took the Lin Wanwan family to the Lin family.

Lin Wanwan and Lu Feng strolled hand in hand down the street. The wind wasn't strong tonight, and Lin Wanwan looked up at the sky.

She leaned her head down on Lu Feng's arm and whispered, "The moonlight is so beautiful tonight."

Lu Feng chuckled, "I don't think you're really praising the moonlight."

Lin Wanwan remained silent, taking his hand as they walked slowly.

Lu Feng was worried that her legs hurt, so he lowered his head and asked softly, "Are you tired? Do you want me to carry you?"

"No need, Lu Feng, I'm not that delicate."

"It's not about whether you're delicate or not, it's that I don't want you to be so tired."

Lin Wanwan chuckled softly, "No wonder Eileen Chang said, 'Love is always feeling indebted.' Does Lu Feng love me very much?"

Lu Feng looked down at her, and Lin Wanwan looked up at him with bright eyes. The moonlight and the dim streetlights shone on her, making her seem even more beautiful than during the day.

Lu Feng didn't know how to describe the excitement and peace he felt, so he simply sighed, "The moonlight is really beautiful tonight."

Hearing him say that, Lin Wanwan smiled even more happily, "Lu Feng, I love you very much, you know that, right?"

Lu Feng felt his heart skip a beat. He stared intently at her face, remaining silent until the car horn sounded behind him, at which point he softly hummed in agreement.

The two remained silent, holding hands, throughout the journey.

However, it was obvious to anyone with eyes that both of them were in a good mood.

After saying goodbye to Song Lanzhi, I went back to my room.

Lin Wanwan walked behind, and the moment she turned around after closing the door, she was tightly embraced by Lu Feng.

"Was what you just said true?" Lu Feng's voice trembled slightly.

"Yes, it's true. The moonlight is really beautiful tonight, and I truly love you too."

Lu Feng hugged her and kissed her deeply. He was very happy tonight, even happier than when he got into university.

Lin Wanwan felt that the two of them had become closer after last night, and even Song Lanzhi could see it.

"By the way, Wanwan, your tickets are all bought. Your godmother got them sleeper berths through someone. You're leaving the day after tomorrow. Remember to pack your things in the next couple of days."

"Okay, Mom, I'll go get ready in a bit."

Soon, the four of them, carrying large and small bags and luggage, boarded the train bound for Gansu Province.

On the train, Lin Wanwan met a strange old woman who was holding a child in her arms. The child was neither crying nor making a fuss, and Lin Wanwan even wondered if the child was dead, which was why it was so quiet.
