Chapter 78 Could it be human traffickers?

Lin Wanwan didn't hear the child cry once from the moment the mother and daughter boarded the bus in the morning until evening.

Feeling increasingly uneasy, Lin Wanwan deliberately went to the corridor to listen to the sounds from next door.

I noticed that the mother and daughter next door were accompanied by a middle-aged man, but the baby in her arms didn't move or cry.

Lu Feng walked over and put his arm around her shoulder. "Don't stand here, go and rest."

Lin Wanwan leaned close to his ear and whispered her guess. Lu Feng looked down and asked her, "Are you sure?"

"I'm not entirely sure, but I'm certain the man wasn't in the car when they got in. I saw the baby was fair-skinned and wanted to play with her, but she hurriedly went to the next room while holding the baby and looking away. I just saw the man come back from getting water in the hallway and throw white pills into the water, which he then poured into the baby's bottle."

"Besides, the child hasn't cried or fussed at all since being put in the car. It's so noisy during the day, he can't just sleep all the time."

"You go to sleep first, I'll think of something. They shouldn't get off the train anytime soon. I'll go find the train police later."

Lin Wanwan nodded obediently, climbed onto the upper bunk and lay down. Lu Feng waited until she fell asleep before preparing to climb up as well.

I turned my head and saw that Gu Changfeng was still awake. "What's wrong?"

Lu Feng whispered Lin Wanwan's guess, and Gu Changfeng only told him to be careful and cautious.

Lu Feng nodded in agreement and climbed up to the upper bunk.

Once there was no sound around him, Lu Feng slowly got up and got out of bed, trying to keep his voice down.

After walking through several carriages, he finally found the train police officer, who gripped his baton tightly as he looked at Lu Feng warily.

"Comrade, is there something you need so late?"

Lu Feng showed his military officer's ID and gestured for him to follow.

Lu Feng led his men to the connecting area between the carriages, closed the door, looked around, and only explained their purpose when they found no one was following them.

Upon hearing this, the train police immediately became vigilant. They were still patrolling so late because they had received a notification that a child had gone missing on another train heading to Beijing in the opposite direction. Therefore, they were instructed to increase their patrols and immediately apprehend any suspicious individuals.

The train police carefully questioned him about his carriage and sleeper room. They thought that human traffickers would only sit in hard seats because sleeper tickets were hard to buy and expensive. They never expected that there were actually people hiding in the sleeper carriage to meet him.

The train police officer didn't dare delay and immediately called his captain, Lu Feng, who also said he could cooperate with the operation.

When Lu Feng returned to the sleeper car, Lin Wanwan was already awake. "Did I wake you up?"

Lin Wanwan shook her head. "No, I went to the bathroom. How did it go?"

Lu Feng shook his head and didn't say anything more. Lin Wanwan knew that he might have to cooperate with the operation later, so she didn't ask any more questions.

I couldn't sleep even lying in bed, worried about the child who had been given medicine and whether he was alright.

It was past four in the morning, when most people were sound asleep, and even Lin Wanwan was almost asleep.

Suddenly, I was awakened by a commotion. It sounded like someone was being arrested next door. I looked up at Lu Feng across the room, but the bed opposite him was empty.

Lin Wanwan quickly rolled out of bed, bumping her elbow in her haste, but she couldn't care less about that now.

I rushed out to check and found that the couple had been subdued, and the child was being held by a policewoman.

Lin Wanwan quickly went over to check on the child, while the policewoman watched her warily.

Lin Wanwan stopped in her tracks, and Lu Feng stepped forward and said, "This is my wife. We have a son. You can let her see him."

The policewoman then handed the child to her, but gave Lin Wanwan a strange look.

She didn't think much of it and just went to check on the child, whose face was flushed and who was not moving.

Lin Wanwan quickly placed the child on the lower bunk where Xu Zhang was sleeping and untied the blanket she was holding.

The policewoman immediately stopped her, saying, "It's cold, don't let the child get cold."

Lin Wanwan turned her head and glared at her, "The child has a fever, and you're still holding him so tightly. What if he can't breathe and suffocates? If you don't know, don't talk nonsense."

The young policewoman wanted to say something more, but was pulled back by the train police officer next to her. "Xiao Lu, step back!!"

"Captain, she's just trying to harm the child!"

Before the police officer who was called captain could say anything, Lu Feng stepped forward, wrapped the child up, and stuffed him into the policewoman's arms.

Lu Feng stared coldly at the young policewoman. "My wife was just trying to be kind. She was the one who first noticed something was wrong with the child. She knew there was something wrong with the parents. She could have just stood by and watched if she wanted to harm the child. It's not your place to talk to her now. You can take the child and leave. We've already cooperated with your operation and caught the person. Since you're so capable, you can have the child. If anything happens, it's none of our business."

"I...I...I only said one sentence, and she won't let me say it anymore?" The policewoman looked like she was about to cry.

Lu Feng stood up to Lin Wanwan without backing down, put his arm around her shoulder, and said in a cold and distant tone, "No, no one. Who do you think you are, coming here to criticize my wife?"

The older captain had already figured out what was going on, and Lin Wanwan had also figured it out.

This young policewoman probably fell for Lu Feng because he was good-looking, skilled, a military officer, and well-dressed.

"Battalion Commander Lu, I'm sorry, this is our new comrade. I apologize for speaking without thinking. Please don't mind, sister-in-law."

Lin Wanwan was genuinely worried about the child. Just as she was about to speak, Gu Changfeng said, "You dare to bring a newcomer out on a mission? Have you properly trained him? Who will be responsible if something goes wrong during the mission?"

Although Gu Changfeng was dressed casually, his imposing presence was no joke.

The policewoman choked back tears as she spoke, "Who are you? Who gives you the right to talk to me like that?"

Gu Changfeng was even angrier at her behavior. She was unprofessional, immature, and acting on emotion. He said sternly, "Which unit? What's your badge number? Who is your direct superior?" As he spoke, he handed over his identification.
