"Let's talk about the work arrangements, Director Lin, you can do it."
Lin Wanwan looked at me with an expression that seemed to say, "Station manager, how about I resign? I have to write articles and broadcast, how can I have time to manage office affairs?"
"What are you doing? Do you want to back out? Hurry up and make the arrangements."
Lin Wanwan thought for a moment and said, "Who is in charge of the office documents?"
"Director Lin, this is me, my name is Zhuang Yaping."
“You can continue to manage it from now on, but not like you are now.”
"From now on, I will see the newspapers first thing every morning, and then file them once a week, sorting them by category and time, and binding them into one book each week. Once the newspapers have been filed and bound, everyone in the unit, no matter who they are, will need to sign a record to borrow them."
"In addition, I have Bai Ying transcribe my manuscripts every day. The manuscripts are archived by time period and archived daily. Borrowing requires a signature record."
“There are also some books and magazines in the unit that are sorted and archived separately. A master ledger needs to be created for each archived document.”
Lin Wanwan looked at her and said, "I know there's a lot of work to do, Tan Hai. From now on, you'll be working on the filing with Zhuang Yaping. If you have any questions, just ask me."
"From now on, I will give each of you a newspaper or an article every day. You need to write a draft for me that day and give it to me before you leave work. If anyone's draft is up to standard, I will teach you how to broadcast and allow you to do a short broadcast. I hope you won't disappoint me. I have high standards."
The people in the office looked at each other in bewilderment. Qian Senlin took a sip of tea and said, "If anyone feels they can't do it, they can resign at any time."
Lin Wanwan glanced at the time, then turned to Zhuang Yaping and said, "Yaping, bring me the latest week's edition of the PLA Daily."
"By the way, where are the newspapers we used to keep?"
"Director Lin, please come with me."
Lin Wanwan found eight newspapers from different eras and times and handed them to everyone.
"Bai Ying, Ya Ping and Tan Hai have a lot of work, so you can submit your manuscript a day later. Ya Ping and Tan Hai, if you have any problems with your work, come and talk to me. Qin Lu, right? You and Lu Lili, you two go and help them. You can sort out the old materials slowly, but the materials from this month must be sorted out within three days."
“You can raise any questions or opinions you have. Tell me, and Station Master Qian will say whatever you want.”
Lin Wanwan picked up today's newspaper, carefully flipped through it, and got a general idea of what was going on.
I glanced at the time; it was almost 11:30. I packed my things and got ready to go home.
Qian Senlin came out and saw this, "Go back?"
"Don't we get off work at 11:30?" someone in the office muttered quietly.
Qian Senlin glanced around the office. "If you were as capable as her, you wouldn't have to work regular hours."
"Yeah, I'm going home. Why don't you stay for dinner?"
What are you planning to broadcast at 2 PM?
"An excerpt from a novel, how about Eileen Chang? Hahahaha!"
"Sure, you're in charge."
"Hmm, let me think about it. I do miss excerpts from Eileen Chang's works, but I'm afraid people won't like listening to them."
"Why not give it a try? How will you know if you don't try?"
"Then let's give it a try."
Lin Wanwan met many military wives along the way who greeted her, and she responded to each one with a smile.
"Xiaolin, the radio broadcast this morning was really nice, was it you who broadcast it?"
"Hello, sister-in-law, this is me broadcasting. I'll be broadcasting again this afternoon, so please remember to listen!"
"Okay, okay, I'll definitely listen."
"Xiaolin, I think your voice sounds even better on the radio than before."
"Really? Sister-in-law, thank you for praising me. I'll keep working hard in the future."
What usually takes ten minutes took me almost twenty minutes today.
Lu Feng arrived home shortly after he arrived home.
How was your day?
"You big liar, weren't you supposed to come pick me up?"
“I really went, but Station Master Qian said you came back, so don’t blame me.”
Lu Feng smiled and kissed her, "You seem to be in a good mood, so work must have gone well?"
"It's alright. Some idiot bullied me, and I bullied him back."
Lu Feng couldn't help but laugh. "Why are you starting to talk like Station Master Qian?"
"After spending the whole morning there, I realized the old man was right; there were indeed a lot of stupid things."
"Are we still going?"
"Sure, I think it's quite challenging. I'd like to try it out and see if I can do it. You can give me some practice too."
"Let's eat. After you finish eating, rest for a while, and I'll take you to work."
After a cozy lunch, Lin Wanwan lay on the bed and sighed contentedly, "It's so warm, I don't want to go out."
"Then don't go to work," Lu Feng said, hugging and kissing her.
"Lu Feng, you're encouraging my laziness," Lin Wanwan yawned, turned over and hugged him, and fell asleep in no time.
Lu Feng didn't have the habit of taking a nap, so he held her and closed his eyes to rest, estimating the time before waking her up.
Lin Wanwan yawned as she entered the office. "Bai Ying, is the transcription finished?"
Bai Ying ran over with the manuscript in her hand. "Director Lin, it's all copied."
Lin Wanwan took the manuscript and looked at it. "It's fine. Take it to Tan Hai for filing. Remember to sign it for the handover. Both of you need to sign it."
Bai Ying nodded. Lin Wanwan looked at the book in her hand, hesitating whether to read Zhang Ailing's books or a collection of poems.
Looking up, he saw Qian Senlin. "Station Chief Qian, come and see if the short story I chose is better, or the collection of poems?"
What's your opinion?
“I think some people might not understand poetry collections, but excerpts from novels might be more interesting, simple and easy to understand, and you can read them every day like a serialized story.”
“I think you already have the answer in your heart. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Our department is in the process of exploring the situation, so go ahead and do it boldly. I will take care of you if anything goes wrong.”
"Okay, then let's go with 'Love in a Fallen City'. I won't read any excerpts, I'll start from the beginning and read it every day."
Qian Senlin smiled and said, "You can decide for me."
Lin Wanwan glanced at the time; there were still twenty minutes until two o'clock.
After packing her things, Lin Wanwan went straight to the broadcasting room and read three chapters of "Love in a Fallen City".
After quickly going through it a few times, with five minutes left, Lin Wanwan took a small sip of water to calm herself down.
When the time came, Lin Wanwan calmly turned on the main switch, showing no signs of the tension she felt in the morning, and spoke the opening remarks and program introduction with ease.
Qian Senlin sipped his tea and listened to the radio, looking quite content.
The people in the office also stopped what they were doing and listened with great interest.
Lin Wanwan estimated that the time was about right, so she stuck on this chapter and ended it immediately.
After packing up her things and returning to the office, she saw Qian Senlin sitting smiling next to her desk.
"Very good, the response should be very good. You've also chosen a good novel. Do you like Eileen Chang?"
"Yeah, I like it, but it took a little longer today, almost fifteen minutes over."
“That’s great, that’s great. When are you going to test their skills and see if there’s anyone you can teach?”
"Okay, I understand. Take your time."
