Chapter 84 Selection

Seeing that she understood, Qian Senlin returned to his office.

"You can give me the finished drafts now; I have time to look at them for you."

Seeing the silent crowd, Lin Wanwan said nothing more.

Sitting down to write her own script, Lin Wanwan was reading yesterday's "PLA Daily," preparing to write a script for the evening broadcast.

Aside from emergency notices, Lin Wanwan plans to read the previous day's newspaper every day to give herself some buffer time.

The 2 PM broadcast started with "Love in a Fallen City," and there were quite a few novels by Eileen Chang. If the response wasn't good, they would change it, since someone would always cover for them.

The 8 PM news will remain unchanged, with additional news broadcasts at other times.

After finishing the script for tonight's broadcast, Lin Wanwan stretched.

Seeing that it was still early, Lin Wanwan picked up a book written entirely in English and began to read, taking notes as she went.

Qian Senlin stood beside her for a while, and seeing that she didn't react, he couldn't help but speak up.

"Xu Zhe gave it to you? This book is too profound for you."

Lin Wanwan paused for a moment, then looked up and said, "Is it difficult? It's nothing special," and shrugged.

"Hahaha, you brat, I can tell you didn't find it easy watching, yet you still have the nerve to brag."

"Really? It's quite simple."

Lin Wanwan stubbornly refused to admit anything.

"Your grandfather has too high expectations for you. Even if you have a higher level of education, you only graduated from high school. These things are indeed a bit difficult for you."

"Well, it's a bit difficult, but it's okay, I can understand it."

"If you don't understand, you can ask me."

"Alright, next time I encounter something I don't understand, I'll take it to you and ask you. Don't say you don't know then."

Lin Wanwan handed him the manuscript on the table. "Want to take a look? It's for tonight."

"You've really improved. You used to need my guidance when writing articles, but now you don't. You've secretly improved during your two months in Beijing."

"Stop praising me, I'm getting arrogant."

"You do your thing, don't worry about me, I'll take another look."

Hearing him say that, Lin Wanwan naturally stopped paying attention and continued reading.

When I checked the time again, it was almost 5 p.m.

"Isn't the manuscript finished yet? Can't you finish it in a whole day?"

The group exchanged bewildered glances. Qin Lu retorted, "Not everyone can finish writing it in a day. We have other things to do too."

"It's precisely because we can't do it that we need to train. If you could all do it, what would be left for me?"

Bai Ying took the manuscript and mustered up her courage to walk up to her. "Director, I wrote it, but it's not very good."

"Whether it's well-written or not is secondary; what matters is the attitude. Please sit down, and I'll tell you after I've finished reading it."

Lin Wanwan read it carefully twice from beginning to end. It wasn't as bad as she had imagined; perhaps her expectations were low to begin with.

He picked up a red pen and made changes on the original manuscript. "Take it back and revise it. I didn't write it in great detail. Figure it out yourself. If you really don't know how to revise it, take another look at the newspaper. After you finish reading, revise it again. Finish writing it as soon as possible and I can revise it for you again."

After thinking for a moment, I called her back and said, "Don't throw away the original manuscript. Keep it safe and archive it as study material later."

Bai Ying held the revised manuscript by Lin Wanwan with excitement. She thought, "She's so talented. If I follow her and learn from her, I'm sure I can learn a lot."

Tan Hai and Zhuang Yaping hesitated for a second after seeing this, then immediately took the manuscript to find Lin Wanwan.

"Director, here's our manuscript," Zhuang Yaping said, placing the manuscript on the table.

"Please sit down. It's putting a lot of pressure on me to have you all standing."

Lin Wanwan looked at the two manuscripts in her hands, and the more she looked, the deeper her brows furrowed.

I picked up a pen and revised a relatively better draft. "Whose is this?"

Zhuang Yaping immediately sat up straight and said, "It's mine, Director."

“The radio news we do isn’t just about reading the words from the newspaper. Look at your script, it’s all disorganized and lacks focus. We have to focus on the key points when we write our scripts.”

Lin Wanwan sighed, "Try to hand it in to me before you leave work, and I'll revise it for you again. You can go now."

Picking up the remaining manuscript on the table, he said, "You must have revised it many times, right?"

"Yeah, I've been hesitant, always feeling it's not good enough."

Lin Wanwan didn't know how to tell him, "I'll help you revise it first, and then you can see where you have problems. Next time you write a draft, don't hesitate like this, and don't keep revising it."

Tan Hai took the manuscript back to his seat and read it. After reading it, he had to admire Lin Wanwan. The manuscript she revised looked much better.

Seeing Lin Wanwan about to leave, Bai Ying immediately grabbed the manuscript and ran over, "Director, Director, I've finished writing it."

After reading Bai Ying's revised draft, he smiled and said, "It's very well revised. From now on, write drafts according to this approach. If you don't understand anything, just ask me."

Bai Ying immediately nodded and waved to her with a smile.

Lin Wanwan stretched when she got home, feeling really tired every day.

Thinking about the drafts I read this afternoon is giving me a headache, and there are still some I haven't submitted yet.

Lin Wanwan was just about to start cooking when Xu Zhang arrived.

"Mom, you're off work. Come eat here instead of going home to cook."

Xu Zhang nodded, put his things away, and went into the kitchen to help with the cooking.

"The novel you broadcast this afternoon was very good. What made you decide to broadcast a novel?"

"When I was taking a nap around 2 p.m., I thought about whether I could do something light and relaxing to keep people from getting so sleepy. Writing the program myself might be too difficult. I was hesitating between a poetry collection and a novel, but I ended up leaning towards the novel. Poetry collections are too profound and not suitable for a relaxed atmosphere."

Xu Zhang nodded with a smile, "Indeed, poetry collections are too dull, novels are much better. I've spent the whole way here today discussing the novel you read this afternoon."
