"Xie Chang'an, what are you doing here?" Ye Jingchen asked in confusion.
Before Xie Chang'an could speak, he added, "I'm going back to the palace. We'll settle this score another day for you deliberately getting me drunk!"
"Chenxi, hurry up!" Ye Jingchen urged.
Chenxi came forward, put her arm around his waist, and quickly led him away from Chang'an Residence.
Xie Chang'an felt that Chenxi's hand placement was inappropriate, and he would remind her next time he saw Ye Jingchen.
He walked into his room and immediately saw the food box on the table. It looked like the food box had never been opened.
He walked to the bedside. Ye Jingchen had left in a hurry, and the bed was still in a mess.
He suddenly felt a little sleepy.
If you're sleepy, you should go to sleep.
He took off his coat, lay down where Ye Jingchen had been lying, covered himself with the blanket Ye Jingchen had used before, and used the pillow Ye Jingchen had used before. He smelled Ye Jingchen's unique scent and the faint fragrance of peach blossoms, and closed his eyes.
The peach blossom wine is excellent. Since Ye Jingchen likes it, he wants more to be brewed this year.
Ye Jingchen hurriedly returned to his bedchamber in the East Palace. Before he could even take off his outer clothes, Fangfei and the others pushed open the door and entered.
Ye Jingchen only had time to lie down on the bed and wrap himself in the blanket, not even having time to close his eyes.
"Your Highness, you're awake!" Fangfei said with some joy as she met his gaze.
"Put down your toiletries and you can leave now!" Ye Jingchen told them to leave immediately.
If he were to lift the blanket in his current state, wouldn't he be exposed?
Fortunately, Ye Jingchen had occasionally dismissed palace maids when he didn't want them to serve him, so Fangfei and the others didn't suspect anything and left after putting down their things.
Ye Jingchen raised his sleeve and smelled it; he was covered in the smell of alcohol.
He took matters into his own hands, found a set of clothes to change into, and then brushed his teeth and washed his face by himself before calling someone in to comb his hair.
"I'm a little hungry, go and get some liquid food to tide me over," he ordered.
Since waking up was omitted today, and time to vent one's morning grumpiness was also saved, there was still plenty of time.
After combing his hair, he drank a bowl of sweet soup to fill his stomach, then went to the training ground to watch Ye Jinghe practice swordsmanship before rushing to the Taiji Hall for the morning court.
His visit to Ye Jinghe was definitely not out of guilt for not returning home last night; he was simply concerned about his younger brother!
Ye Jinghe watched his brother come and go, and his eyes darkened.
Last night, my brother didn't go for a run; instead, he went to his bedroom early.
This morning, he had been keeping an eye on the movements in the bedroom, and he actually saw his brother being led back to the bedroom by his guards, still wearing the same clothes as yesterday.
Where did my brother go last night? Why didn't he come back all night?
Yesterday was Xie Chang'an's birthday. Could it be that my brother spent the whole night with Xie Chang'an?
Thinking of this possibility, Ye Jinghe's sword seemed to have an enemy, and every move he made was fast and ruthless.
It wasn't until he stood in the Golden Palace that Ye Jingchen had time to think about Xie Chang'an's series of unusual behaviors yesterday.
Why did Xie Chang'an force him to drink?
What was Xie Chang'an's purpose in getting him drunk?
In fact, he had memories before he actually passed out from drunkenness.
He recalled his conversation with Xie Chang'an, and apart from the fact that Xie Chang'an's attitude towards him was unprecedentedly good, they didn't say anything strange.
Even though it was a bit strange that he later ended up sleeping in Xie Chang'an's bed, when he woke up, it was Chenxi who was by his side.
"After Xie Chang'an took me to his room, you weren't with me for a while?" Ye Jingchen asked in surprise in the government office.
“He had two bodyguards stop me for about 15 minutes,” Chenxi said.
A half-hour silence —
Ye Jingchen tried hard to recall, but his memory only went as far as Xie Chang'an saying he would take him to bed. After that, he couldn't remember anything else.
"What happened after you went into the room?" Ye Jingchen asked.
"Sitting by the bed, looking at you."
"Just watching?" Ye Jingchen felt a little uneasy.
"Just watching."
"Is there anything unusual about me?" Ye Jingchen asked while stretching his arms and legs to check his physical condition.
"No."
So what exactly does he want to do?
Ye Jingchen found it puzzling.
“He has probably achieved his goal,” Chenxi said.
This was his intuition, because Xie Chang'an had been too easy to talk to ever since he barged into the room until this morning.
Ye Jingchen was speechless. "You don't even know what his purpose was, so how do you know he has already achieved it?"
"intuition."
Ye Jingchen's lips twitched. Intuition was something that could be believed or disbelieved.
Since the two of them can't figure it out no matter how hard they try, they might as well just ask the person involved.
The Crown Princess is to depart for the Northern Frontier early this morning, but the Dowager is quite old. If she departs too early, it will disturb her. So at this time, Xie Chang'an is either on his way out of the city or on his way back.
"Let's go find Xie Chang'an!" Ye Jingchen said to Chenxi.
Chenxi looked at Ye Jingchen with a complicated expression and reminded him again, "He's dangerous!"
Ye Jingchen knew, of course, that Xie Chang'an was in danger, but—
"But he had no reason to hurt me!"
Chenxi drew Ye Jingchen a face so ugly that no one dared to look at it, and then took him away from the government office.
Ye Jingchen saw Xie Chang'an at the post station; he was seeing Xu Jingjing off.
