Chapter 8 You're really amazing
The waiter brought the menu, and Gu Heng ordered a normal main dish. Not long after, the waiter brought over this pear and millet porridge, which looked much healthier compared to the pile of desserts and fast food that Chu Xiang had placed there.
A handsome man and a beautiful woman sitting together is very eye-catching. Several people couldn't help but glance in the direction where Chu Xiang was sitting, probably guessing what kind of relationship Chu Xiang and Gu Heng had. If they were boyfriend and girlfriend, the atmosphere between them didn't seem like it.
Chu Xiang looked at the small cake and pizza in front of her. She wanted to eat them, but felt that it was not appropriate to eat them. For a moment, she did not know whether she should pick up the spoon and finish the half-eaten Black Forest cake.
Gu Heng said, "If it's me who makes you feel uncomfortable..."
"No, you misunderstood." Chu Xiang smiled apologetically. "I was just full, so I wanted to pack it up."
Gu Heng had some doubts about the truthfulness of this statement, but he was a very gentlemanly person and did not expose the girl's coy little lie. Perhaps it was because he had been in power for many years that young people would easily become nervous when they looked at him.
The new interns at the company often looked at him without daring to speak.
But Chu Xiang is different from the interns in the company. She is Gu Jue's future wife, that is, Gu Heng's future sister-in-law. In the future, they will inevitably have some interaction.
Gu Heng wasn't good at finding topics to talk about. In fact, whenever he was in his position, it was always the other people who racked their brains to find topics to avoid awkward silences when they ate together. But Chu Xiang was young and was the fiancée that her family had chosen for Gu Jue. So Gu Heng still showed the demeanor that an older brother should have at this time.
"I heard that Miss Chu received an admission letter from University A."
Chu Xiang nodded, "Yes, I'll be starting school soon."
Gu Heng said, "Then you'll be Gu Jue's junior. It's good that you're in the same school; you can look out for each other."
Gu Jue is a year older than Chu Xiang and also attends A University. The reason Chu Xiang wanted to apply to A University was simple: because Gu Jue was at that school, she wanted to attend it too.
If Chu Xiang had realized she had transmigrated into the book earlier, she wouldn't have applied to the same school as Gu Jue. Now that she has received the acceptance letter, she can't refuse even if she wants to. She just hopes Gu Jue won't bother her anymore. She never thought she would have any mutual support with Gu Jue.
Gu Heng added, "University A has a very high admission score. It's remarkable that you were able to get into this school."
He probably rarely praises people; even when he says "very impressive," it sounds a bit stiff.
Chu Xiang could tell that Gu Heng was trying to start a conversation to avoid an awkward situation, and she had no reason to be rude, so she smiled and said, "Actually, my grades have never been the best, but I unexpectedly performed exceptionally well in the college entrance examination, and so did Gu Jue..."
Chu Xiang didn't originally want to say anything good about Gu Jue, but since the topic had come up, she still objectively said, "Gu Jue's grades weren't very good in high school, but unexpectedly, his grades suddenly improved in the last semester of his senior year, and he successfully entered University A."
I have no idea what kind of incredible luck he had.
Gu Heng: "During his last semester of senior year, I tutored him every day."
Chu Xiang looked up in surprise, her dark, moist eyes filled with astonishment. The starlight in the night seemed to stand still at that moment.
Gu Heng's expression softened slightly. "Since you're a member of the Gu family, you should do your best."
Gu Jue was never stupid. On the contrary, he should have been very smart in his studies. However, he was inconsistent in his studies and didn't like to study at all. This was completely different from Gu Heng, who was so self-disciplined that he always came home first in his class every semester.
Chu Xiang didn't know what methods Gu Heng used to force Gu Jue to study, but she could guess that Gu Jue must have hated Gu Heng intensely at that time.
Chu Xiang said sincerely, "Mr. Gu, you are amazing."
Being able to plaster that lump of mud, Gu Jue, onto the wall is not something an ordinary person can do.
A smile appeared on Gu Heng's lips. "Miss Chu got into university through her own efforts, but you are even more impressive."
This kind of low-level mutual flattery was something Gu Heng had never tried in the business world before. It was only because the girl in front of him was young that he had the mentality of coaxing a child.
The meal wasn't too awkward, at least. Chu Xiang stared at the food on the table, too embarrassed to suggest packing it up, but Gu Heng generously called over a waiter to pack up the food Chu Xiang hadn't finished.
Before Chu Xiang could even reach for the bag, Gu Heng had already picked it up with gentlemanly manners and asked, "Are you going home, or somewhere else? I'll take you."
Chu Xiang didn't mince words. "I made an appointment on my phone to go to the hospital to see a doctor."
Gu Heng's gaze fell on her eyes. "Are you looking at my eyes?"
Chu Xiang nodded, "My eyelids have been a little itchy and peeling. I don't know if it's blepharitis."
She raised her hand again, pressed her curled fingers to the corner of her eye, and complained softly, "Now I don't even dare to put on makeup anymore."
Gu Heng: "Miss Chu looks good even without makeup."
Chu Xiang looked up and smiled, her eyes crinkling with joy. "Thank you."
Regardless of whether his words were merely polite, no girl dislikes hearing someone compliment her on her looks.
They walked out of the store together. Gu Heng was tall and had long legs, but he deliberately slowed down to take care of the girl next to him. Chu Xiang was much shorter than him, and he could see the top of her head when he looked down.
The girl wore her hair in a ponytail today, with a light green hair clip held in place on the side of her black hair to hold back stray hairs, giving her a very fresh and cute look.
Unfortunately, she only had one hair clip in her hair, which was quite asymmetrical.
Gu Heng's car was parked not far away. He was walking on the street, always on the outside. His manners were impeccable. Suddenly, someone grabbed his arm through his sleeve and pulled him to the inside.
Chu Xiang said, "There is water on the ground."
Gu Heng belatedly noticed the puddle next to him; if Chu Xiang hadn't pulled him back, he would have stepped into it.
He said, "Thank you."
Chu Xiang shook her head and said she was welcome. She let go of his hand, then remembered something and hurriedly reached out to smooth his sleeve. Her movements were a little rushed, and the ends of her hair swayed slightly with her movements. A strand of hair was caught on the hair clip by the wind, neither up nor down.
Gu Heng had never noticed before that girls could wear such small accessories. He glanced at the girl who was bowing her head and smoothing his sleeves, and finally couldn't resist, quietly reaching out his other hand.
Chu Xiang vaguely sensed movement above her head. She looked up and saw Gu Heng standing upright and properly in front of her.
Perhaps finding her gaze strange, he blinked.
Chu Xiang tilted her head, then raised her hand to touch the top of her head, wondering if she was imagining things.
