Newborn Jiaojiao was adored by the Feng family. The three women in the family adored the little girl daily. As she grew older, the mole between her eyebrows became increasingly clear. Originally thought to be a black mole, it turned out to be a red one. With fair, rosy cheeks and a red mole between her eyebrows, she looked like a child descended from the heavens.
Jiaojiao is also growing incredibly fast. As the saying goes, babies grow incredibly fast from the moment they're born. A child grows fastest in their first few months. A typical child grows about four centimeters in the first month. Jiaojiao is incredibly impressive, having grown seven centimeters in just one month. She's definitely a true "grower."
During this time, people from the village came to the Feng family every day to see the newborn baby. Everyone praised the baby's good looks, saying it was fair and plump, as white and tender as a glutinous rice dumpling. Strangely enough, this glutinous rice dumpling even had its own fragrance and was filled with peaches.
Not only the villagers, but even the Feng family members were puzzled. It was indeed peach season, but Shuixiu was in confinement after childbirth and hadn't eaten anything raw or cold. Neither had anyone else in the Feng family. Where exactly did Jiaojiao's peach scent come from? None of the Feng family knew. All they knew was: This was a bit mysterious. They didn't dare to elaborate.
But Old Lady Feng had her own opinion. Peaches! Whose peaches were the most famous? A newborn baby, never hungry, with a natural sweet peach scent, even burping like peaches, couldn't be more different from a mortal.
Despite her own thoughts, Old Lady Feng couldn't share them with anyone, not even her family. Ever since she noticed her glutinous rice balls constantly smelled of peaches, she'd sent someone to look for them daily. And surprisingly, she actually had the children pick a ton of peaches in the mountains. Old Lady Feng even offered the children her own candied peanuts in exchange, and everyone agreed.
One summer, the Feng family traded for a ton of peaches. How could Old Lady Feng and her two grandchildren finish them all? They had no choice but to make dried peaches, which at least served as a snack.
At this time, every household was struggling financially, but the villagers were generally kind. Because the Feng family had a new baby, they would frequently visit the Feng family to see the newborn. They didn't come empty-handed either; one day one family would bring a bunch of beans, the next day another would bring two eggs. Over the course of a month, the Feng family received a considerable amount of gifts from the villagers.
Old Lady Feng was a midwife and also treated patients for the villagers. Her family was actually quite well off. Compared to hers, some families were so poor that they could barely afford to eat.
After collecting so many things from the villagers, Old Lady Feng specially prepared a big meal for the villagers when the full moon was bright.
She took out the thank-you gift she had given to the hunter's family when she delivered a baby, a wild boar leg and a few dried rabbits, and asked someone to buy about 50 pounds of pork from the butcher in the next village. She mixed it with potatoes, beans and other vegetables and cooked several pots of pork. She also added various fruits and vegetables from the vegetable garden, and there were more than ten tables full of dishes.
The villagers seldom ate meat, but this time there were two bowls of meat on each table, and the whole village was very satisfied. Before leaving, Old Lady Feng gave each family two red eggs. For these red eggs, all the eggs in the village were exchanged by Old Lady Feng.
When Jiaojiao was still in her cradle, she recognized everyone in the village for the first time. Speaking of which, there was a little episode. At the end of the full moon banquet, Jiaojiao suddenly pointed to the sky and cried out, "Ahhh!"
But no one could understand her words or her gestures. As soon as she stretched out her little finger, someone would quickly shake it and praise her, saying, "Oh, this child is so cute! She even wants to shake my hand."
Jiaojiao finally realized her efforts were in vain and had to give up. As a qualified fortune teller, reading the weather was a fundamental skill. Even though her other abilities hadn't recovered yet, reading the weather was still a breeze.
Fortunately, the full moon banquet ended quickly and everyone went home in groups of three or four, carrying red eggs.
In just a quarter of an hour, the originally clear sky was suddenly covered with dark clouds, and heavy rain came in an instant.
The lightning was dazzling, the thunder rumbled, and the ground fell with a crackling sound.
The four members of the Feng family, including the grandparents and grandchildren, hid in the house. There was still some unfinished business in the yard, but no one paid any attention to it.
"This weather is really weird." Old Mrs. Feng muttered as she looked at the dark sky.
The thunder rumbled one after another.
Jiaojiao stared outside with her large, unblinking eyes. The weather was truly bizarre. Raining was fine; it was a rare opportunity for farmers to rest. It was dark inside, making needlework impossible. The Feng family sat inside, chatting idly. Jiaojiao closed her eyes, pretending to sleep.
The red mole on Jiaojiao's forehead suddenly became brighter in color, and then returned to normal after a moment.
Since Jiaojiao's last discovery of the space, she'd secretly entered it many times. After entering, she'd become the same size as her previous life, and she'd mastered the method of entering and exiting the space. The mechanism lay in the red mole on her forehead. If she wanted to enter the space, she simply focused her attention and silently said "enter," and she was in. The same went for exiting.
This space was like the mustard seed-shaped Sumeru described in the stories she had heard: a tiny red mole, yet within it lay a vast universe. The spring within was spiritual water, and the vapor lingering in the space was spiritual energy.
Jiaojiao entered the space, strolled around, drank some water, and then picked a peach to eat. After eating the peach, she started to wander around again.
There have been some changes in the space. She used to throw away the peach pits after eating them, but recently she found that small saplings had sprouted from the soil from the peach pits she threw away.
The soil and water in this space are very good. In about a month, the first peach pit dropped has grown more than one meter tall, with lush branches and leaves, and small flower buds are faintly emerging.
