Chapter 145

It was lunchtime.

The caravan stopped to rest, and the young master made do with some roasted pheasant brought by his attendant before returning to the carriage with his beloved daughter in his arms.

Just as he was about to hold her and lie down for a while, he heard Xiaojiao's plaintive voice echoing in his ear, her gaze lingering, "Wei Lang~"

The young master was completely captivated. He had chosen Jiao Jiao because of her beautiful voice when they were in the opera troupe, and that's why he redeemed her and took her with him on his business trips.

This woman could make him pluck the stars from the sky and he would do it without hesitation!

"Do you want it?" The young master laughed frivolously, his slender fingers reaching down.

Even the mysterious veiled girl was temporarily forgotten.

The woman flinched and backed away, her soft, charming voice filled with more fear than anything else, "Young Master Wei doesn't know how to cherish me..."

"Ever since I followed Wei Lang, I have served him wholeheartedly every day, using every trick in the book to please him. But now, Wei Lang is getting more and more tired of me, and it's obvious that he's been bewitched by that vixen!"

Little Jiaojiao's eyes filled with tears, and she playfully punched his chest a few times, clearly feeling very wronged.

The young master, whom she called Wei Lang, seemed completely bewildered. He asked with a puzzled look, "What kind of petty temper are you throwing now? When did I ever get tired of you?"

What nonsense about being a vixen?

Could there be anyone more seductive than her in this caravan?!

The questioning tone made Xiao Jiaojiao cry even harder. She wiped away her tears with a wronged expression, "Wei Lang still wants to lie to me? I can see it clearly. Wei Lang's eyes are practically glued to me. How can you say he hasn't had his soul stolen?"

The young master frowned, only then realizing who the vixen she was referring to was.

A mischievous smile curled his lips as he leaned back, looking intrigued. "Are you talking about the girl with the veiled hat who was traveling with us?"

"Exactly!"

She spoke those two words with such tenderness and emotion.

The young master gently pinched the woman's chin and teased, "Jiaojiao, you've misunderstood. I'm just a little curious about her."

He had seen countless women and could tell at a glance that the girl was still a virgin. Seeing that a man was traveling a long way with her, he wondered who he was, which was why he was somewhat curious about her.

He wasn't some lecherous devil; the girl's veil covered her completely, so he couldn't see her whole face and naturally wouldn't pay her too much attention.

But her slender figure... was truly eye-catching.

Perhaps it was his words that comforted Xiaojiao, for the woman's sorrowful sobs stopped, and she turned from tears to laughter, then nestled softly into his arms once more.

"Is what Wei Lang said true?"

“Absolutely true.” The young master’s eyes flickered, and when he looked at the woman again, a hint of wickedness appeared on his face. “Take a guess, why don’t they consummate their marriage?”

Is it really appropriate to discuss other people's private matters so freely?

Xiao Jiaojiao was taken aback, then slowly shook her head. "This servant does not know. Is there anyone who would not want to experience such earthly bliss?"

She giggled sweetly, her gaze towards the young master so tender it could melt hearts. This prompted the young master to give her a deep kiss on the cheek before laughing loudly, "Consider this my good deed for the day. I'll give them a set of fire-avoidance diagrams later so they can take a look."

Xiao Jiao glared at him reproachfully, then giggled sweetly, "Wei Lang is so naughty~"

Perhaps it was because the girl's husband was short and impotent, or perhaps it was because the girl who covered her face completely was plain-looking, making her husband unable to bring himself to do it; and so on and so forth.

In short, if a married couple cannot consummate their marriage, there must be a hidden reason. Sending them erotic books to read is a terrible idea; if it provokes them and there's no way to quell it, what a loss that would be!

※※※※

Mu Chengye hasn't slept well for two days.

He spent enormous financial and material resources to raise a group of assassins, thinking that the assassination of Xiao Ziwu was a sure thing. In the end, not only was the entire army wiped out, but he didn't even kill the man!

He disguised himself and entered the Qi Prince's mansion through the back door.

King Qi maintained his gentle smile as always, as if the failure of this plan was of no consequence to him, truly showing remarkable composure.

He arrived.

"All of you may leave," King Qi ordered calmly, and then withdrew from his surroundings.

In contrast, Mu Chengye's expression was much more solemn. He said in a deep voice, "Most of our men were killed by another group that came to assassinate Xiao Ziwu, so we were unable to continue and he escaped."

This assassination attempt dealt a heavy blow to them; when they kidnapped Shangguan Tianyun, they had only sent four elite soldiers.

This time, Mu Chengye dared not underestimate his opponent and went to great lengths, only to end up losing everything!

Mu Chengye was so heartbroken that his heart, liver, spleen, and flesh were trembling!

King Qi glanced at him calmly, his voice steady: "You've always been composed and unpretentious, so why are you becoming increasingly impatient?"

His words were clearly mocking, but Mu Chengye couldn't laugh.

Can these be the same?

Those were all the elite troops, all wiped out. How could he not feel heartbroken?

Mu Chengye took off his cloak, a breath of stale air stuck in his chest, but he couldn't bear to speak harshly to him, so he took a big gulp of tea to calm himself down. "What exactly was your intention in ordering someone to assassinate Xiao Ziwu? It couldn't really be for Ziran's marriage, could it?"

Why go to such lengths for a mere woman?

Seemingly amused by his words, King Qi smirked, poured himself a cup of tea, and pushed it towards Mu Chengye. "When have you ever seen me make a losing deal?"

He smiled broadly, looking confident and composed.

It seemed that everything was under King Qi's control. Mu Chengye's tightly furrowed brows relaxed slightly as he listened intently to what King Qi would say next.
