Chapter 51: Don’t you plan to remarry her?

Chapter 51: Don’t you plan to remarry her?

With the support of Tang Yuelin's funds and channels, Su Hexi's career took off like a rocket.

She was busy flying around the country, inspecting stores, negotiating cooperation, and attending events. She was like a high-speed spinning top.

The modern office building has been built long ago. She has a spacious and bright president's office. She has many elite subordinates and there is a constant stream of people coming to report to her every day.

In her brilliant world, Zhou Lin's figure gradually became blurred.

He remained silent, guarding the near-complete brand building construction site, putting the finishing touches on it. He watched Su Hexi's increasingly attractive figure appear in newspapers and on television, and the well-dressed, conversational elite men surrounding her. Then, looking at his own dusty work clothes and rough hands, a deep sense of inferiority and distance silently spread.

She was already a figure in the clouds, glamorous and wealthy, while I, on the other hand, was still a root in the soil. Apart from working hard and helping her keep an eye on the construction site, I knew nothing else and was unable to offer any help.

She deserves someone better, someone who can stand shoulder to shoulder with her in the spotlight and give her a broader sky. If I stay by her side, I will only be a burden and an existence that is not worthy of being on the stage.

From the very beginning, they were people from two different worlds. It was her fall that gave him the time to stop and possess her. Now that she has regained her wings and flown to the sky that belongs to her, he should let go and let her soar.

Zhou Lin began to deliberately withdraw from her life. He no longer took the initiative to go to her new office, no longer greeted her, and even tried to avoid her when she occasionally returned to the city.

He poured all his energy into the construction site, numbing himself with busyness. Only occasionally, late at night, would he stare at the lights on the top floor of the most imposing building in the city, lost in thought for a long time.

Su Hexi was extremely busy and worked intensively for several months. Finally, after a late-night review meeting, he was so tired that he fell asleep on the sofa in the office.

When she woke up, it was already late at night, and her stomach was aching with emptiness. She habitually wondered if Zhou Lin would quietly prepare a warm midnight snack for her like he used to.

As soon as this thought came to her mind, she was stunned.

Looking around this luxurious yet deserted office, she was shocked to realize that the man who always appeared silently by her side and prepared everything for her seemed to have not appeared in her sight for a long, long time.

An inexplicable panic seized her.

The next day, she turned down an unimportant meeting and drove to the brand building construction site on the outskirts of the city.

The building already stood tall, its exterior decoration complete and magnificent. Only some interior polishing and landscaping remained. She found Zhou Lin on the construction site. He was wearing a hard hat, pointing at the blueprints with the foreman and going over the final details.

Seeing Su Hexi coming, Zhou Lin's eyes flashed with an elusive fluctuation, and then he quickly regained his composure.

He walked over with a polite yet distant smile that Su Hexi had never seen before, and his tone was calm and businesslike: "Boss Su, what brings you here? Everything is fine at the construction site, and it will be fully delivered soon."

Mr. Su?

This name and the unfamiliar smile on his face were like a thorn that suddenly pierced Su Hexi's heart, making her feel suffocated.

He had never called her in such a strange way before, always calling her Xiaoxi affectionately.

She didn't want to see him smile like that; it separated them like a thousand mountains and rivers. She said nothing, pursed her lips tightly, and turned abruptly. Her high heels made a crisp and somewhat messy sound on the concrete floor, and she almost ran away.

Zhou Lin looked at her suddenly leaving back, his lips moved, but in the end he said nothing, and did not chase after her without hesitation like he had in the past.

He just watched her walk away silently, then forced himself to turn around and get back to work, but his fingers holding the drawings turned slightly white from the force.

Su Hexi walked a long way and couldn't help but look back, but saw Zhou Lin had his back to her, gesturing and saying something to the workers. His back was resolute and focused, as if her coming and going were no longer important.

She froze in place for a moment, feeling a great sense of shock and loss.

In the past, no matter how she lost her temper or turned away, he would immediately catch up with her, clumsily but firmly staying by her side.

But now… he doesn't care.

This realization made Su Hexi feel as if there was a hole in his chest, and a cold wind blew in.

She returned to the office in a daze. Cai Jinglin keenly noticed her abnormality and asked with concern, "What's wrong with you? You look so bad."

Su Hexi shook her head, trying to numb herself with work, but found that she was unable to concentrate for the first time.

She kept thinking about Zhou Lin, thinking about his distant eyes, and wondering why she was so sad. Hadn't she always thought he was boring, not romantic enough, and couldn't keep up with her? Why did she panic and feel so sad when he really let go?

Cai Jinglin saw it all and understood what was going on. She found an excuse to leave and then sent someone to call Zhou Lin to the corridor outside the office, deliberately choosing a position where Su Hexi could vaguely hear what was going on.

"Zhou Lin, the construction site is about to be completed. What are your plans next?" Cai Jinglin asked casually.

Zhou Lin's voice was filled with a subtle hint of self-mockery. "Me? I don't have any plans. Once the handover here is complete, I'll go find some work at another construction site."

"Aren't you going to stay and help Su Hexi? The company is so big, we need someone we can trust." Cai Jinglin asked.

Zhou Lin was silent for a moment, then shook his head. His voice was low but clear: "No need. She's very powerful now, and the people around her are also very powerful. I can't help her at all. Staying with her will only hold her back and make things... difficult for her."

Cai Jinglin moved her mouth, wanting to ask Zhou Lin a thousand questions, but she didn't know where to start. In the end, she simply asked, "Aren't you going to remarry her?"

"Yeah." Zhou Lin paused, as if he had exhausted all his strength, and then answered in a calm tone that was almost cruel: "Not anymore."

Zhou Lin looked through the window at the busy Su Hexi and smiled contentedly.

After he left, he and her would have nothing to do with each other anymore. He would probably only see her in newspapers or on TV. But he hoped that she would always be well and everything would go smoothly for her.

He left alone.

Cai Jinglin sighed.

Inside the door, Su Hexi heard his nonchalant words "no more", and felt as if her heart was tightly grasped by an invisible hand, and suddenly stopped beating. Then, she was instantly overwhelmed by the boundless coldness and suffocation.

The sadness came so violently that she almost couldn't stand.
