Chapter 22

That night, Chu Hui found Xiang You, who had brought people to rescue him, and handed him the universal card, temporarily unlocking the restrictions on the use of the entire underground elevator.

Lin Dao leaned on Blaita's shoulder for support, and used the communicator to give Xiang You a final briefing on the survivor screening and isolation observation procedures. He glanced back at the scene of utter devastation and then gave a deep, resounding order:

"I think we've found the location for brewing the raw materials for the Mixed Base's heterologous substances..."

"What? Where?!"

“The underground city, level 20 below ground,” Lin Dao’s voice was a little hoarse, “has always been… right beneath our feet.”

Xiang You was also stunned when she heard the news, but quickly reacted and said, "Okay, I understand. I will send people to the 20th basement level to seal off and handle the situation as soon as possible. The elevator has been restored. You and Bryta are together, right? Are you injured? Come up quickly so I can take a look at you."

Lin Dao paused upon hearing this, glanced down at Bretta, who was actually alright but looked disheveled, and forced himself to say, "No, I'm sleepy, I'm going back to sleep." After saying that, he cut off the communication before Xiang You could speak again.

Looking at the bloodstains soaking into his black fabric, Britta hesitated and asked, "Mr. Lin Dao, you clearly..."

"No need." Lin Dao lowered his head and interrupted him impatiently, as if he had been holding back something, and urged him in a low voice, "Let's go back."

The two took another elevator. Once inside, Bretta was still somewhat shaken. Lin Dao, whose head was slightly lowered, noticed the cautious expression on Bretta's dirty face and chuckled softly, a rare occurrence for him, asking, "Scared?"

Hearing the barely audible laughter, Bleta felt inexplicably embarrassed, but he was also genuinely afraid, so he honestly looked at the man and nodded slightly: "...Yeah, a little."

Lin Dao leaned back against the elevator wall, creating some distance between himself and Bryta, using this to relax. He closed his eyes, tilted his head back slightly to make himself feel better, and with a forced smile, said breathlessly, "I'm here, don't be afraid."

"However, I'm too tired today and want to get a good night's sleep. For the sake of me saving you, please, and your pet white mouse, behave yourselves tonight and don't bother me..." His voice grew softer as he spoke, and he reached out to pull up his hood, covering his somewhat pale face.

Bretta noticed that the blood on his body had soaked into a small patch on the ground and was still dripping.

For some reason, the smell seemed even sweeter and more enticing to him, and he subconsciously swallowed.

In the confined space, the severely injured Lin Dao could hardly suppress the raging beast within him. His bleeding hand was clenched tightly at his side, and he tried to distract himself by talking. However, when he mentioned the white mice, his Adam's apple bobbed.

The elevator doors opened with a ding, and they finally reached the ground floor.

There were fewer people at the entrance, so Lin Dao immediately took a step forward, hurrying and staggering as he went out. Blaita was worried about him, but also attracted by his scent, so she followed closely behind him.

Lin Dao felt she was losing control of herself, her brows furrowed as she tried to shake him off, but to no avail.

Upon arriving at their apartment in the East Fourth District, on the 27th floor, Lin Dao eagerly exited the elevator. Before entering the password and opening the door, he seemed to remember something, then turned back, giving Blaita, who had just followed him, a final, fierce look:

"Kid, be quiet tonight. And whatever you hear, pretend you didn't hear it, understand?"

Startled by his gaze, Bleta quickly nodded obediently, "I-I understand."

"Bang!" The answer he received was a loud knock on the door.

Bretta shuddered in fright, then her shoulders slumped as she let out a sigh of relief. Dragging her weary steps, she turned and walked towards her front door. As she opened it and closed it, she instantly transformed back into her original form, lifted up by a white rose vine formed from Little White's tendrils, and carefully placed on the bathroom sink.

The little white mouse, Britta, yawned and lay limply. The little white mouse, dutifully, stretched out its vine, turned on the tap, and released warm, clean water. It first lifted the mouse and placed it under the water, quickly rinsing off the mud and grime. Then it set the mouse aside, while the little white mouse, its body adorned with several flower petals, unfurled and rinsed itself clean under the water. Next, it cleaned the pool again, plugged it, and pulled the half-asleep mouse inside. The little white mouse then soaked comfortably, surrounded by several flowers, bathing alongside it.

Every now and then, Xiaobai would scrub the white mouse's back to clean it up, and at the same time make sure that some of its small wounds had healed quickly. Only then would she feel at ease and give it some soap to lather up. Finally, she would hang the sleeping little Bryta on a vine, rinse it clean, wrap it in a soft towel, and then take it back to Bryta's clean and tidy bed in its bedroom, covering it with a thin blanket.

The only light in the room was a dim bedside lamp emitting a soft, warm glow.

The cleaned white mouse slept peacefully with its eyes closed, its small body rising and falling slightly with its breathing. However, its sleep was not restful; its little paws would occasionally twitch as if startled by a nightmare. The other white mouse curled up in a clump beside the clump, seemingly in much better spirits than Bryta.

It gently closed its small eyes, which occasionally furrowed, and a clear liquid spilled from the corner of its slightly parted mouth as it murmured softly:

"...Mr. Lin Dao...delicious..."

Mr. Lin Dao, whom he was talking about, could no longer hold on after entering the house. He immediately lost control, and his lower body turned into a snake tail that was nearly one or two meters long. He looked down at his monstrous body with disgust, turned around, whipped his tail, and quickly walked into the bathroom, slamming the door shut.

He had dozens of wounds, large and small, on his body, including the snake's tail. In particular, there were several large shards of glass embedded in his body on his upper body, tearing open his flesh and causing large drops of blood to fall and splatter onto the bathroom floor, creating crimson flowers.

Lin Dao endured the excruciating pain, found the forceps in the spare medical kit, and painstakingly removed all the glass shards from his skin, throwing them onto the washbasin beside him before wrapping himself in white bandages.

He looked down and saw the snake tail on his lower body, which also had scars and bruises of varying degrees.

He recalled his battle with that toad-like alien. It still looked somewhat human and could stand and walk, but its limbs and head were completely deformed, and it had lost its human consciousness, only knowing to attack him blindly.

At that time, Lin Dao's weapons and knife were scattered in some unknown corner after the transformation. He was practically fighting it hand-to-hand, like punching this mutated boxer. In the end, he used his snake tail, triggering instinct for the first time since becoming this neither-human-nor-snake monster, to coil around the toad-like alien with his snake tail, tightening it little by little until it completely suffocated to death.

Even now, Lin Dao's body still trembles uncontrollably when he thinks about it. He doesn't know if it's fear or excitement after the hunt, but he managed to control himself and not eat it.

At this moment, Lin Dao's chest heaved as he looked at his black snake tail. He tried to clench his fist and exert force several times, but he could not control himself to turn back into human form.

He stared intently at the snake's tail beneath him, his pupils glowing crimson. He could vaguely sense a restless power surging through his cold blood. He forced himself to suppress it, wearily closed his eyes, and lay down on the floor beside the bed. The snake's tail curled up, as if it had entered hibernation, and he fell into a deep sleep.

However, some wounds on his body were still slowly oozing blood.

Bryta was awakened by the smell emanating from the blood.

Its big, dark eyes were wide open, and its stomach was rumbling loudly. Bretta regretted not being able to sneak a bottle out of the twentieth-floor wine cellar today; now it was so hungry that its eyes were bulging, and it wished it could jump up and run a few laps on the running wheel.

Little White noticed that it was awake, but didn't move. It lay sprawled on the soft bed, as if lazily yawning, not caring what Bleta wanted to do.

Bryta frowned, feeling utterly miserable being surrounded by the aroma of food yet unable to eat a single bite. She endured it for a long time, but couldn't resist any longer. She leaped up the wall and onto the ceiling slab.

It thought to itself: It could do nothing but go next door and take a peek at the fragrance up close, and also check on Mr. Lin Dao, since he was injured while saving it.

With this in mind, it vaguely arrived at the roof of room 2701 next door, hoping to catch a whiff of the scent and maybe even take a lick or a bite. Then, following the scent along the wall, it darted into the bedroom.

Only a dim emergency light was on inside. Bleta rushed in, his mind racing, swallowing hard.

In the darkness, Lin Dao, who had been in hibernation, suddenly opened a pair of eyes that glowed red. The vertical eyes, vaguely resembling snake pupils, exuded a chilling and sinister aura.

The next instant, his snake tail moved, precisely catching the invading little creature, and the snake tip tightly wrapped around it, quickly bringing it to his eyes.

When Bleta was lifted up and suspended in mid-air by the slippery snake scales, it was so frightened that its heart almost stopped. It panicked and fully regained its senses, only to find that it was completely unable to move when it tried to escape.

When Britta was pulled by the snake's tail to a man's face that was both familiar and unfamiliar, the entire mouse was stunned.

“!” Bleta was stunned by what he saw.

This man, with his long black hair flowing down his back and his cold, dangerous eyes that gleamed with a scarlet light, looked exactly like Mr. Lin Dao! But beneath him was a large black snake tail!

Was Mr. Lin Dao eaten by this big black snake?!

Bretta trembled violently, but in the next instant, it sensed a familiar feeling in the eyes before it. Its clever but often confused little brain finally realized that the monster before it, which could no longer be called human, might actually be Mr. Lin Dao himself!

Mr. Lin Dao was actually a black snake! A giant black snake, his natural enemy, that could devour him in one bite!

Disturbed from his sleep, Lin Daowei opened his eyes and looked lazily at the little white mouse he had caught. The murderous aura emanating from the intruder had not yet dissipated, and he was too badly injured to be forced into hibernation. Now, in his serpentine form, he could hardly suppress the awakening of his instincts.

At this moment, he looked at the small, chubby snowball in front of him, and could feel its softness and warmth at the tip of its tail.

It is alive.

It's not a bionic electronic pet at all.

He narrowed his scarlet pupils and almost instinctively flicked out a snake's tongue, making a hissing sound in front of the white mouse.

The little guy exuded a dizzying fragrance, several times stronger than normal, intensely stimulating the depths of his nasal cavity.

The pale green liquid that had seeped into his body through the wound tonight quickly merged into his cold blood, churning and surging like waves crashing against reefs in the deep sea, almost extinguishing his reason.

He frowned in pain, his mind seemingly invaded by hallucinogenic rosemary, and under this intense stimulation, he saw a series of intertwined images of snake heads and human bodies appearing in his head.

The next second, he completely lost control, suddenly moving closer to the white mouse—his awakened instincts transformed into a sharp, twisted scream that raged wildly in his mind—

Eat it!

Eat it!
