Lin Daowei took a breath, his gaze falling on the toad-like creature on the elevator car, seemingly about to jump down. He then glanced at the elevator doors and, with a sudden thought, whispered to Blaita, who was still inside, "Find a corner, close your eyes, and hurry."
Bryta quickly squatted down and closed her eyes.
Lin Dao glanced sideways and lashed the snake's tail tip against the gate!
After a loud bang, the door crack loosened, and he immediately made another violent impact, then squeezed his tail open to create a gap that he could barely squeeze through sideways. Finally, he breathed a sigh of relief and retracted his tail tip.
The toad-like creature above the elevator seemed to sense something and became restless. Blaita opened her eyes, her eyelashes fluttering, and looked up through the increasingly large hole in the top of the elevator. Suddenly, she cried out, "It's coming down!"
"Quickly climb up the gate! Hurry!"
In the blink of an eye, Blaita jumped up and leaped onto the elevator doors! At that same instant, Lin Dao used his snake tail to forcefully throw the elevator car upwards, rolling away to escape.
"Boom—" The elevator car slammed right past his body. The loud crash echoed through the dark, empty elevator tracks.
Lin Dao lay exhausted on the ground, his body a human and his tail a snake. His black hair was spread out behind him, and his jet-black snake tail snaked down. His chest heaved as he gasped for breath.
As soon as Bryta stepped onto the elevator of some unknown floor, he was startled by the terrifying noise and quickly turned to ask in the darkness below, "Mr. Lin Dao, are you alright?"
A hint of nervousness lingered in Wennuo's voice as it echoed in the darkness.
Just as Lin Dao was about to answer him, he looked up and met the enormous toad head protruding from the top of the elevator car. The toad's head, which had become deformed and inhuman, had a pair of eerie and sinister green eyes that looked strangely sinister beneath its bumpy, scaly skin.
He almost instantly recognized its leaping motion and shouted, "Run—!"
At the same time, Lin Dao immediately got up and stepped back, and the heavy body of the toad alien jumped down and crashed onto the spot where he had just been lying.
Lin Dao no longer had the energy to pay attention to Blaita and began to fight him.
Hearing the commotion, Britta dared not delay any longer. Barely managing to keep his legs from collapsing in the descent, he scrambled to his feet and ran forward. By chance, he entered the twentieth basement level. Once inside, he found the entire floor deserted.
The room was filled with industrial equipment that he couldn't understand at all, and it was only illuminated by the dim emergency lights overhead.
He was slightly out of breath, his steps gradually slowing as he walked through the large, fully automated machines, looking around in bewilderment. Little White cautiously slipped out of his arms, wrapped itself around his shoulder, and peered around.
The further you go in, the more you can faintly hear the sound of trickling water and the echoes of machinery running.
"It smells so good..." Bleta could smell a fragrance that permeated the entire twentieth floor, lingering all around. The smell was like the aroma of fermenting wine.
He walked deeper into the interior, unaware that he was in a large underground brewery. A strange smell mingled with the aroma of alcohol, but the raw materials used to brew the "liquid" were probably not the scarce and precious grains of the present apocalypse.
Drawn by the aroma, he walked for quite some distance. According to the brewing process, it seemed that the later stages resulted in a richer, more concentrated finished product. He passed several mechanical steamers, the rising steam filled with that intoxicating aroma that captivated Bryta.
Bleta licked her lips, her mouth watering, while the little white creature on her body seemed to be getting restless.
He wasn't paying attention for a moment, and Little White leaped forward, a long vine shooting towards the spot where the liquid was rising. Then, as if burned, it whimpered silently and quickly retreated, steam still rising from the green vine. It looked like it had been burned badly.
Bleta reached out and touched it with a pang of tenderness, while secretly swallowing hard. Looking at the tempting liquid coming out of the tube, she quickly and alertly shook her head.
Undeterred, Xiao Bai stretched out another vine and pointed forward. The two continued forward, where it seemed that semi-finished brewing liquids were being produced. They were all sealed in giant cylindrical containers and neatly stacked for storage.
As they were thinking this, they plunged into a cellar entrance that opened downwards.
As Bleta hesitated about whether to go down, he suddenly felt something moving beneath his feet. He frowned in hesitation, but the movement grew louder and louder.
He instinctively leaped forward a few steps, and when he turned around, he found that where he had just been standing, a crack several feet wide had appeared in the ground, and out of the soil emerged a large earthworm with a head more than a meter in diameter!
Bretta was startled. He turned and ran two steps forward, only to find himself blocked by a wall, a dead end. He had to use the white vines to leap into the air and turn around as the earthworm stretched its head out to attack him, narrowly missing the attack. The next second, he knelt down and reached out to pull open the cellar door, quickly rushing inside.
Fortunately, the entrance to the cellar was narrow, and the large earthworm got stuck as soon as it burrowed its head through the crack.
Bletta stared at the stuck earthworm's head for two seconds with a conflicted look, then smacked his lips and swallowed.
Just as it was about to eat, the earthworm seemed to sense something, quickly swerved and swung its tail. Blaita opened its enlarged mouth, "whoosh," and bit off a piece of the earthworm's tail before it could retreat.
As the saying goes, "Men die for wealth, birds die for food," and Blaita, completely forgetting his escape, felt the smooth, fragrant meat moving in his mouth, the corrosive digestive fluids in his mouth quickly enveloping the delicious food. Enjoying the meal, Blaita comfortably squinted his eyes, feeling a warm power coursing through his limbs. He looked down at himself and found that the wound he had secretly opened for Little White was healing rapidly at a speed visible to the naked eye.
He looked down at himself in confusion, feeling that his self-healing ability had increased several times over.
Was it because you ate a bite of this earthworm?
As he was thinking of looking up, he suddenly saw that the earthworm, which had completely recovered, changed direction and burrowed into the ground after realizing that it was stuck!
Soon, the tremors from underground kept getting closer to his feet.
Oh no! Blaita immediately turned around and used Little White's vines to run and swing forward, covering more than ten meters.
The cellar was filled with cabinets displaying finished liquids, their glass surfaces glowing with a deep green fluorescence. Judging by the color alone, the concentrations varied, and the different bottles seemed to have markings indicating the concentration of the alcohol and other substances mixed together.
Upon arriving, the aroma was so strong it almost assaulted the nostrils, and Britta felt completely immersed in the deliciousness. Especially with the recent new drinks having such a strong alcoholic smell, just smelling it made her head spin a little.
The earthworm kept chasing him, its enormous body taking up most of the limited space in the wine cellar.
Finally, with nowhere to run, Blaita had no choice but to turn around and face the giant, worm-like creature alone. The little white flower also bared its fangs at him, its petals splitting open into sharpened thorns.
It swiftly attacked, stabbing fiercely into the enormous earthworm. Sure enough, it pierced through the slippery body, and soon green, bloody gasps oozed out. The earthworm writhed in pain, its tail contorting in agony. Nearby cabinets collapsed, crashing down with a deafening roar. Bottles shattered, releasing thick, foreign substances that spilled across the ground.
Bretta was startled. The little white vine twisted fiercely at the wound on the earthworm's body, breaking off a piece that fell onto the ground covered in green liquid. The earthworm seemed to be in great pain, or something else, and rolled around amidst the shards of glass, its body mangled and bloody.
Blaita was stunned by its crazy behavior, while Little White, who had just expended a lot of energy, quickly lowered its head, stretched out all its vines, and began to absorb the fragrant and rich alien essence rapidly and greedily.
Originally, only one of its flowers had self-awareness. When Bretta helped him find the other three, they were merely grafted onto his body. Now, Bretta can clearly see the other four flowers blooming with pure white yet eerie blossoms as they continuously absorb nourishment.
Blaita licked his lips, looking at the delicious liquid on the ground. He frowned slightly, and was hesitating whether to lie down and lick a few mouthfuls to taste it when he suddenly noticed that the piece of earthworm that had been cut off by Little White earlier was rapidly expanding and growing after absorbing the liquid. It looked like it was about to become a second big earthworm!
He looked up, his eyes widening in shock. The earthworm that had been rolling around on the ground had sprouted several deformed tentacles from the punctured wounds! They looked grotesque and twisted, utterly hideous and repulsive. By Bretta's standards, the sight was unbearable to look at.
It looks like they're about to make the first move and attack Xiaobai, who's still engrossed in drinking his beverage!
"Watch out, Little White!" Blaita leaped forward swiftly, beckoning Little White. Little White reacted instantly, quickly wrapping its vines around him. In the blink of an eye, dodging the attack, it nimbly flashed in front of the mutated earthworm with its multiple tentacles. Driven by survival instinct, it conjured two sharp, scythe-like blades in its hands. With a flash of white light, it "swish, swish" severed the two sections of the earthworm's tentacles! The tentacles twitched on the ground covered in green, viscous liquid.
The ugly earthworm was in so much pain that it attacked wildly, but Little White immediately wrapped its arms around its waist and pulled it back to the ground, leaving a mess in the area it had just avoided.
Bleta stared blankly at his hand still gripping the scimitar, before he could react, several tentacles and another large earthworm attacked him all at once.
He was attacked from both sides, and no matter how light and agile his movements were, he could not withstand such an attack. The hundred-pound body swung up and almost knocked him away. He was only saved from crashing into the wine cabinet by Xiaobai.
Bleta felt excruciating pain all over his internal organs from the impact. When he looked up, he discovered that the two tentacles he had just severed were rapidly growing into a new earthworm variant at a speed visible to the naked eye!
His face turned pale, and he dared not cut off the limbs anymore. He turned around and ran away in a sorry state, but several times he was entangled by several tentacles and fell forward to the ground, unable to move!
He gripped the white vine tightly with both hands, feeling it tremble as well, and felt a deep sense of panic, as if he sensed death approaching.
Suddenly, two large earthworms swung their tails and, as if in anger, flipped a cabinet full of wine bottles in front of him towards him!
At this moment, facing the impending danger, his disheveled and sticky face was filled with fear and panic, and he almost cried out in a terrified voice:
"Mr. Lin Dao! Lin Dao! Lin Dao—! Save me!!"
In that life-or-death moment, a tall figure teleported in front of him, bracing the entire liquor cabinet with both hands! The bottles, violently impacted, shattered instantly, scattering glass everywhere. Many drops of molten glass pierced Lin Dao's body.
Britta opened her tear-filled eyes wide, looked up at the man blocking her way, and murmured:
“Lin Dao…”
Lin Dao suddenly pushed the entire wine cabinet forward with force, and reached out to pull Blaita up from the ground.
He reached behind him for the weapon he had spent so much time finding.
Seeing his long sword, Blaita quickly warned, "Cutting them will only make them multiply!"
Lin Dao glanced back at him in surprise, then hoisted the heavy submachine gun beside him and unleashed a barrage of fire at the mutated monster in front of him.
They only stopped when they had completely killed them and were no longer able to move.
He turned and saw Bretta looking at him with a worried expression, as if she had just escaped death. Despite the pain from the alcohol-based liquid seeping into her wounds, Bretta reached out and waved to him, a hint of relaxation finally appearing on her usually stern face. She greeted him:
"Little one, come here. I'll take you home."
