Chapter 49 "Damn it! Just because you have a wife doesn't mean you're all that!"

After gaining a basic understanding of Bleta, and using the laboratory data he and Klindall obtained at the Arctic Snow Fortress, Xiang You and the researchers at the institute repeatedly hypothesized and verified, and conducted in-depth sampling experiments on Bleta. Finally, after more than a month, they achieved significant results—they obtained effective serum.

Even a small step towards success represents the birth of hope.

Xiang You quickly found a suitable alternative to Bleta and reported the vaccine's progress to the research department. The research department collectively conducted on-site studies on the serum and found that it indeed had the function of resisting the elimination of foreign substances.

The research department was in uproar, and the military and political departments held a meeting. Ultimately, with the strong support of Yu's father, Klindall's volunteer activities were successfully stopped. With the strong recommendation of Rudolf of the Mechanical City, it was hoped that, before the trend of alien development in the All-Asian Alliance and the world was completely contained, the highly respected Colonel Klindall would call for the recruitment of aliens who had awakened their abilities and were hiding in the deep corners of the wasteland, to form a new official army to lead the eradication of aliens that threatened human life.

This proposal, sent by Mechanical Sky City to the command centers of major political entities worldwide, caused a huge uproar. While ordinary citizens in smaller bases might not yet be aware of the existence of mutants, mutants were already gradually appearing in larger bases, rapidly forming small factions that were active in various regions, collecting weapons and food.

These people were all living relatively comfortable lives, but they didn't want to attract official attention and be wiped out. However, this didn't mean that local military forces were unaware of them.

This incident caused a great deal of attention among the leaders of various bases. Other bases weren't without similar ideas, but they would never allow a colonel from a sub-alliance to summon their base's secret weapon. Immediately, news of this spread like wildfire among the official military.

A little over half a month later, the situation began to change rapidly. The Arctic Snow Fortress, which belonged to the Empire and had a number of experimental mutants, had recovered quickly after its laboratory was destroyed and was severely weakened. It then announced that it had welcomed the greatest leader of the Victorian Empire—a powerful mutant.

Then, the Federation also quickly recruited a powerful mutant. In short, no one was willing to be subordinate to the Sub-Alliance's Klindall.

Now, a three-way power struggle has reappeared. Many restless leaders of the Asian Union have no choice but to prioritize the overall situation and solemnly release and welcome back the once-renowned Colonel Klindall.

Meanwhile, in order to maintain its international reputation, the Asian Alliance expressed its willingness to cooperate with various bases, stating that it already possessed an effective serum. After much competition and online negotiations, it was finally decided that a Beacon Conference would be held at the Mixed Base, attended by dignitaries and representatives from each base, to discuss cooperation on human coexistence. The Asian Alliance was also obligated to demonstrate cooperation by sharing the serum.

Bretta only vaguely understood the news, but he was good at grasping the key point: Colonel Klindall was going to be released!

After arriving in the Sub-Alliance, he lived in the research institute, sharing meals and lodging with Xiang You and the others, except for experiments. Qiao Song and Wei Tang were responsible for continuing intelligence work between Mechanical Sky City and the Sub-Alliance. Meanwhile, Blaita never actually reached the areas where the people of the Sub-Alliance base lived.

He figured that since Klindall had come out, he should congratulate him and prepare a small gift.

Little White wrapped the rose vine around his waist, thought for a moment, then suddenly struggled, exerting its strength, and white roses sprouted from its body, gathered by the vines and presented to Blaita: "How about this? Don't humans like to give flowers?"

“But…” Bryta hesitated. He remembered that white roses were used to commemorate the deceased, which was not appropriate.

Even though he didn't say it aloud, Little White understood easily. It wasn't angry; it just wrinkled its petals, trembled, and said defiantly, "How could that be?! I don't believe it!"

Bretta was a little embarrassed. He wasn't well-educated and knew very little. It wasn't until Cheng Cheng, who was noisily talking to You, passed by and saw Xiao Bai's large bouquet of white roses, that he leaned over, bent down to smell them, and chuckled, asking, "Preparing a gift for the Colonel so soon?"

Klindall was reinstated to his original position, and Cheng Cheng changed his tune very smoothly.

Bryta was taken aback, then quickly said, "No, I'm afraid it wouldn't be appropriate to send this down."

Cheng Cheng was a typical straight man, not very detail-oriented: "What's wrong with that? Oh, you think it's not bright enough, right? That's easy, just dye it red!"

Bretta was stunned: "...You can do that?"

Seeing how naive and easily fooled he was, Xiang You couldn't help but chuckle. Actually, in the San Francisco era, white roses, besides being used at funerals, were also used at weddings, representing pure love. However, he thought that if he told Bryta his true feelings, he would definitely be too embarrassed to give them to her.

Now, Bretta has gradually been influenced by what she sees and hears, and has developed more of the primal and simple emotions of humankind.

Xiang You said, "Don't listen to his nonsense. Who dyes flowers? Even if they did, they wouldn't look good. It's fine as it is. Anyway, Klindall isn't someone who knows anything about flowers."

Bleta had a vague feeling that this perfunctory approach wasn't quite right, and besides, dyeing was actually quite simple; Little White had turned red before. But using his blood, it was very likely that another Little White would appear. Bleta now knew that his blood was not ordinary, so he was quite cautious.

Moreover, Clingdale might not like flowers, Britta thought to herself.

Hearing his thoughts, Xiaobai scoffed and said arrogantly, "I don't even care about him!"

After coaxing Xiaobai with a glass of sweet, pure drinking water, Blaita finally belatedly remembered his identity as a mechanic, and perhaps he could give him a gift that he had made himself.

He spent a day brainstorming and sketching, and finally asked Xiang You to prepare the materials for him. He immediately started working overtime at the research institute.

One moment there was crackling and popping, the next there were sparks flying from masked figures. This alien biological research institute somehow felt like a roadside blacksmith's stall.

After two long nights, I finally finished the product. I fell asleep right there that night.

Klindall disliked making a scene. The night before, after being received by You, he went straight out of the research department and got into the mech.

Klindall didn't see Blaita in the car and looked at her questioningly.

Before Xiang You could speak, Cheng Cheng in the driver's seat started chattering: "Colonel, Tata stayed up two nights in a row preparing a gift for you, and he's asleep at the research institute right now. Xiang You and I didn't want to wake him, so we came straight over. It's so late, shall I take you directly to your address at the base?"

Upon regaining his identity, Cheng Cheng noticed the military officer's uniform on Klindall's body and instinctively used honorifics.

Klindall: "Let's go to the research institute first." He turned his head and looked at Yu, asking, "Didn't the experiment expose Bryta's identity?"

Xiang You was taken aback, then nodded: "Of course. He can't make it public yet."

“Yes,” Klindall nodded solemnly, “It can’t be made public anymore.”

Xiang You was surprised, but quickly regained his composure and controlled his emotions. This was the first time he had seen such an irrational side of Klindall.

The mech vehicle drove into the research institute's protective gate.

After entering and stopping the mech, Klindall stepped out of his military boots, leaned out, and, now fully dressed in his officer's uniform, walked with a straight and resolute gait into the research institute. Just as Cheng Cheng in the driver's seat was about to get out, Klindall turned back and asked, "Is all the experimental sampling finished?"

Xiang You quickly realized what he was asking and nodded: "It's all over."

“Okay.” Klindall’s handsome face was hidden in the shadows of the night under his officer’s cap. He looked up at the somewhat bewildered Cheng Cheng and instructed, “No need to get out of the car, just wait here.” After saying that, he turned around and strode into the research institute.

Following the instructions he received in the car, he quickly passed through the highest level of facial scanning and the checks at each door, finally arriving at a room in the core area.

The room was filled with all sorts of mechanical gadgets and scraps, and a blond-haired boy was lying on the bed, fast asleep from exhaustion.

Klindall walked over and looked at the simple yet not shabby house, and the messy things all over it. He felt sorry for the place and couldn't help but shake his head.

He bent down and easily lifted Bryta up in his arms.

Suddenly hearing a noise, he looked down and saw something that had been beside Bryta before he went to sleep—a pistol with a cold and unique design, its barrel engraved with simple patterns, and a silver chain hanging from its side for attaching it to his side. Klindall examined the gun closely and found it somewhat amusing.

Does he think of himself as someone who lacks weapons?

He suddenly remembered the long sword that had been broken earlier.

In fact, unless absolutely necessary, he would not use melee weapons before running out of bullets.

Klindall thought for a moment, then took the gift and the gun with him. He carried her through a series of security gates, his steps steady and his expression focused as he moved forward. Occasionally, he could feel the breathing of Bretta, who was fast asleep in his arms.

Even though Bretta was asleep, he could feel a familiar, cool touch, like Mr. Klindall's body temperature. In a daze, he felt himself being picked up. He groggily opened his eyes and saw a familiar, handsome face, but the other person was wearing unfamiliar clothes. He vaguely felt that he was dreaming, but still smiled slightly and murmured:

"Mr. Lin Dao..." This name was one he had treasured for a long time.

Upon hearing this, Klindall, still holding him in his arms, pulled him up slightly, lowered his head, and kissed him.

Bleta felt the cool touch, still a little dazed, but quickly became immersed in the comfortable and gentle kiss.

I thought to myself: How wonderful it is to dream. To be able to see Mr. Lin Dao.

Seeing the mist in his eyes, still hazy and filled with a mixture of confusion and tentative joy, Klindall deepened the kiss. Finally, in a low, magnetic voice, he asked, "Are you awake?"

"I'll take you home, back to my home."

"..." Belatedly realizing that this was not a dream, Bleta found herself being carried to the entrance of the research institute in such a public manner, and not far from the entrance was a mecha vehicle with its front searchlights on, possibly with people inside.

Her fair face flushed red to her ears. The timid yet shrewd Britta immediately closed her eyes and remained motionless. After a while, she quietly added, "...She's not awake."

Klindall paused, then suddenly laughed.

Cheng Cheng, who was standing not far away and practically wanted to rush to the front lines with binoculars to watch the drama unfold, exclaimed in surprise: "That guy can actually laugh?!"

"Having a wife doesn't make you any better!" Cheng Cheng said resentfully.

Xiang You shrugged: "Considering the high proportion of widows and orphans in the base... that's truly remarkable."

Cheng Cheng clenched his fist: "Damn it, the captain is leading the way in getting gay!"
