Chapter 86 Investigation Background

Jiang Yuping never expected that her daughter would go to find her brother Qiuyang.

She never expected that her daughter already knew her father's identity as a spy and his secrets.

When Qiuyue said she was dating Liang Guoping, Jiang Yuping naturally believed her; she never expected her daughter to deceive her.

When her mother asked if Liang Guoliang had bullied her, she smiled and said:

"Mom, do you think your daughter is someone who can be easily bullied? Liang Guoping, humph, he dares to bully me, I'm the one who should bully him."

To convince her mother, Qiuyue deliberately hummed a hum.

Jiang Yuping then asked:

"Then what's wrong with those eyes? They look like they've been crying."

Qiuyue immediately explained:

"Mom, you're overthinking it. Why would I cry? It's because Liang Guoping told a lot of funny jokes. I laughed so hard I could barely walk, and tears kept streaming down my face, so---."

As she spoke, Qiuyue came up and gently hugged Jiang Yuping.

"Mom, I'm not talking to you anymore. Everyone has their own secrets. I don't want to share my secret with Liang Guoping with you. I'm going to take a shower, then go to bed to read and sleep. Your daughter is very good, isn't she?"

After saying this, Qiuyue turned and left her mother, then went into the bathroom and locked the door from the inside.

As soon as the door was locked, Qiuyue covered her mouth and began to cry silently.

She couldn't cry out loud; she didn't want her parents to know that, as their daughter, she already knew about her father's identity as a spy and his murders.

That night,

Just like last night's autumn sun, Qiu Yue tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep.

As a 19-year-old working girl, she was already aware of the seriousness of the situation.

If what my brother said is true, not only might our father be dragged to the execution ground and shot as a reactionary, but our family would be completely destroyed.

The next morning, Qiuyue pretended not to know anything, eating and laughing as usual, not wanting her parents to worry about them.

Qiu Jingwen and Jiang Yuping were naturally unaware of the changes in their daughter's heart.

As usual, they ate breakfast and rode their bicycles to work together.

As Qiu Jingwen and Jiang Yuping rode their bicycles out of the factory gate, Liang Damin followed from behind.

What Qiu Jingwen noticed was that Liang Damin was not chasing him, but deliberately slowed down to keep his distance.

This change made Qiu Jingwen, who was quite intelligent, realize that Liang Damin must know something about him and was avoiding him. Normally, Liang Damin would have called him "Old Qiu" behind his back long ago.

Qiu Jingwen only knows one aspect of the story.

In fact, after Shao Jian told Liang Damin about his suspicions about Qiu Jingwen and his wife yesterday, Liang Damin knew it was no longer a joke.

Moreover, Shao Jian had already begun monitoring Qiu Jingwen and his wife before this, which made Liang Damin feel even more that he couldn't get too close to Qiu Jingwen. Otherwise, if it were later found that Qiu Jingwen was involved in the murder of Liu Xianghai, Liang Damin would have a hard time explaining it to everyone. After all, he and Qiu Jingwen had a very close relationship, like revolutionaries and brothers.

Furthermore, the victim, Liu Xianghai, turned out to be a Kuomintang secret agent who had gone undercover, something Liang Damin hadn't expected.

Shao Jian assigned him to investigate Qiu Jingwen's family background and social connections, clearly suspecting that Qiu Jingwen might be Liu Han's subordinate, the teenage agent who was only fifteen years old back then.

Qiu Jingwen pretended not to notice Liang Damin and walked forward side by side with his wife.

After arriving at the factory area by bicycle, Liang Damin did not go to the security department, but rode directly to the factory union building.

Ding Haitao, the chairman of the factory's labor union, is a member of the factory's leadership team, which is half a level higher than the head of a middle-level cadre position.

After Liang Damin parked his bicycle, Ding Haitao had already come downstairs carrying a black briefcase.

Meanwhile, a jeep dispatched by the factory was waiting for them downstairs.

Upon seeing Liang Damin, Ding Haitao smiled and said:

"Liang Ke, let's not go upstairs. Let's head straight to Old Wei's house."

Liang Damin tucked his briefcase under his arm and followed Ding Haitao into the military jeep.

The union chairman's duties include being concerned about the political and ideological dynamics of employees and organizing some daily and cultural and recreational activities for employees. He had no connection with Shao Jian's investigation team.

Ding Haitao knew that Liang Damin was a member of the investigation team formed by the public security department, and also held the position of deputy team leader.

Yesterday, he received a call from the top leader, Zhou Huaihai, saying that Liang Damin would be visiting retired political cadre Wei Dongmei with him today. He thought to himself that it must be related to the investigation team's investigation of the case, but he never expected that Liang Damin was going to investigate the family background and social connections of Qiu Jingwen and his wife.

After getting in the car, the Jeep quickly drove out of the factory area.

Ding Haitao and Liang Damin were both sitting in the back of the jeep, their bodies almost touching.

He turned to look at Liang Damin and asked:

"Liang Ke, is your visit to the old political commissar, Old Wei, related to the investigation of the spy case and the barber's murder case?"

Liang Damin did not deny it:

"Yes, Lao Ding, we're just asking about the circumstances when some people first joined the factory."

He was referring to certain people, not just one person, and he didn't want to tell Ding Haitao about Shao Jian's request for him to investigate Qiu Jingwen and his wife's background.

Ding Haitao was also sensible; he didn't press the matter further but instead turned to the deceased, Liu Xianghai.

"Old Liang, has there been any progress on the murderer who killed the barber on the streets of Yushan Township?"

As Ding Haitao spoke, he took out a pack of cigarettes from his shirt pocket, pulled out two, handed one to Liang Damin, and put the other in his own mouth.

Liang Damin took the cigarette, but shook his head in response:

"Chairman Ding, I won't hide it from you, so far there really are no suspects."
