Todd glanced at the expressions of those around him, while Ruichier looked across at him with a wary expression. Hudgens gave him a trusting look, while Alfonso closed his eyes and looked disgusted.
“Mr. Theodore, may I ask how you intend to use the ‘Necromancer Successor’ technology?”
Without the slightest hesitation, the old man said, "End the war."
Todd looked at him in surprise: "End the war?"
"If we cooperate, Twilight Town can create a powerful and controllable army, which we can then use to suppress all ambitious individuals and warmongers!" Theodore exclaimed excitedly, his face flushed. "Just imagine, we can use this technology to eliminate all threats, deter restless individuals, and turn the entire world into a pure land without oppression and discrimination!"
Todd touched the bridge of his nose, looking at the old man immersed in his beautiful vision, and said with some reluctance, "Theodore, let's put aside whether this technology is just or not. But are you really confident that you can control all of this?"
Theodore stopped speaking and looked at Todd with a puzzled expression.
“I once heard a story about a famous scholar in a faraway land named Fritz Haber. He invented a weapon—poison gas—that could kill people in minutes with pain and despair. During the war, the use of this weapon caused the deaths of millions of people, including many of his own kin. And this scholar’s original motivation for inventing poison gas was nothing more than fanatical patriotism and a desire to end the war as soon as possible.”
Seeing Theodore's astonished face, Todd continued, "So, Mr. Theodore, I understand your thinking. But it's unrealistic to think that one weapon can end all wars. Besides, you are a scholar, not a politician. You may not understand or even know anything about the dirty dealings and underhanded interests of politics. Your achievements and technology could very well be used by others as tools for slaughter and instruments of domination."
Theodore's throat was dry as he lowered his head, savoring every word the other man had said. After a moment, he stood up and bowed to the man opposite him: "Todd, you had the opportunity to deceive me with lies, but you warned me with your story instead."
“I need to think more carefully about the technology of the ‘Necromancer’ for a while.” Theodore gave Todd a friendly smile: “But your sincerity and integrity have strengthened my resolve. Cooperating with you is the right decision.”
Todd stood up from his seat, walked over to Theodore, and extended his right hand: "Mr. Chairman, I look forward to your decision."
