In his Tyrant form, Todd's enormous crimson eyes reflected the panicked look of his enemies.
With his iron claws gripping the crossbow bolts, he slightly gathered his strength behind him, his beast-like golden pupils dilated instantly, and he hurled his arm forward with a sudden thrust.
The heavy crossbow disappeared into thin air in an instant, and the next second, the head of the defending commander and a section of the city wall behind him exploded into a pile of dust almost simultaneously.
The defending soldiers first looked at their commander's headless corpse, then at the ballista bolt still trembling and stuck in the city wall. After a brief moment of disorientation, all the enemies began to retreat in terror.
Todd, now back in human form, let out a long sigh of relief and said to the Valkyrie and Jerry beside him, "While the enemy's morale is low, drive them out of the tunnel and block the road to the top of the city wall!"
There was no response after the order was issued.
Todd turned around in surprise and found that the people around him were also looking at him with expressions of fear.
Shaking his head helplessly, Todd roared, "What are you all standing there for?! Get going!"
Seeing that the others had come to their senses and were going to carry out their respective tasks, Todd walked alone towards the winch room.
With severed limbs flying everywhere and corpses strewn across the land, he could easily imagine how brutal the battle that had just taken place must have been.
When Todd entered the winch room, Valkyrie Evie and her sisters were locking the chains on the city gate winch to prevent the enemy from using it to raise the gate again.
Upon seeing Todd's appearance, Evie retracted the parasitic limbs from under her armor, first wiping the blade and shield clean with the corpse's clothes, and then said, "I heard the alarm bells in the city. It won't be long before the enemy troops stationed outside the city are at our gates."
Todd nodded dismissively: "The key question now is whether we can hold out until reinforcements arrive when the enemy attacks the city."
Ivy sheathed her longsword: "We interrogated a few guards and learned some information. Half a month ago, the kingdom transferred most of its slave-hunting troops from outside the city to the border to participate in the war with the Kingdom of Connaught. Therefore, the actual number of troops that can support Gugu City is not very large."
"This is great news!" Todd exclaimed with delight. "I was most worried about two things. First, the defenses of Gugu City's port are too tight. Our fleet was discovered and on alert before we even got close to the port, giving the defenders ample time to build a defensive line and wait for reinforcements. Second, a large number of reinforcements are stationed outside the city. Once they learn that the city gates have been attacked, if the commander of the enemy reinforcements realizes that there are only a few of us defending the city, they will launch a costly and exhausting human wave attack. Under such circumstances, it will be difficult for us to hold out until the reinforcements arrive."
Todd shrugged. "Fortunately, neither of those things is likely to happen."
Ivy said to Todd with a serious expression, "I need to remind you of something: the walls of Gugu City are thirty meters long. With such a long defensive line, we only have ten people, and we have to leave two people to guard the passage below in case the enemy attacks. That means we only have eight people who can actually defend against the enemy on the walls. It's simply impossible to defend such a long wall against an attacking force with only eight people."
Todd smiled and shook his head: "You'll find out when the time comes whether we can hold out."
After leaving Jerry, wielding a dragon spear and clad in heavy armor, and a Valkyrie skilled in archery at the entrance of the tunnel to defend against a counterattack from the enemy inside the city, Todd led the remaining seven men up the city wall and quietly waited for the enemy to arrive.
Within the ancient city of Gugu, the flames of war in the port district have spread to the lower city. Gladiators, barbarian warriors, and the Northern Island Knights, allied in three armies, are clad in fine equipment. Blessed by their faith in "Rebuilding Asgard," they transform into a group of fanatical holy warriors, crushing all enemies before them with boundless fighting spirit and frenzied slaughter.
These people, when faced with any living creature, have only one thought in their minds—to charge forward!
Todd climbed to the top of the city gate and looked up at the direction of the smoke in the city. He nodded with satisfaction and said, "The landing force is advancing faster than I expected."
Below the watchtower, Evie looked towards the distant horizon and roared at Todd, "Enemy reinforcements are here!"
Todd turned around and looked out over the plains outside the city.
At the edge of the distant hills, a thick black line traverses the top of the hills, slowly moving towards the city gate.
Using his "Eagle Eye" ability, Todd strained his eyes to see into the distance, gaining a clear view of the enemy's troop deployment and unit composition.
The Ulster slave-catching army that was sent to reinforce the area consisted of about a thousand men, divided into three formations: the front formation was composed of slaves, the middle formation was mostly composed of regular infantry, and the rear formation was composed of the Ulster cavalry regiment and the chief guard.
Besides these, Todd discovered something extremely interesting: this reinforcement force did not carry any siege equipment.
However, upon reflection, it makes sense. If the port of one's own city is attacked, the normal course of thought would be for the landing force to proceed methodically through the city and attack the city gates. The reinforcements would never have anticipated such a swift capture of the gates, so it's perfectly reasonable that they didn't bring any siege equipment.
As the enemy troops descended the hill, Ivy looked up at the flags fluttering above the city gate and estimated the distance. She said to Todd, "The enemy is within firing range. I'm ready."
Todd was somewhat surprised. The enemy's vanguard was still about four hundred meters from the city gate. Even with a light arrow fired from an English longbow, it wouldn't be able to reach that range, let alone inflict damage. But Evie's expression clearly told him—"I can hit and kill the enemy."
