Chapter 575 Between Species (shuhaige.net)

The leader's tyrannical behavior was like the opening clarion call of a massacre.

The orc soldiers of the Crusader army picked up their weapons and slaughtered the prisoners of war without hesitation.

In the blink of an eye, the battlefield, which had been filled with pleas for mercy and screams of agony, became completely silent.

Seeing this scene before him, the captain of the knights' regiment opened his eyes wide with anger and roared, "You are disobeying military orders!"

The orc commander smeared the blood of the dead all over his forehead, stared into the knight's eyes, and said, "Blabulator, die! These prisoners should thank us; at least we gave them a merciful death!"

"You are not an army at all! You are just a bunch of butchers whose minds are filled with nothing but killing!"

Watch your mouth, human!

"Sorry, sorry to interrupt you."

The sudden noise interrupted the argument between the knight captain and the orc commander.

Randall led the other five people to the front of the crowd, and gasped when he saw the mess on the ground.

The captain of the knights looked at the strange group of six with a puzzled expression: "Who are you? Why are you here?"

The orc commander looked at Randall's face, suddenly remembered something, and shouted, "I know you! You're the human who wanted to marry an elf!"

Randall gave an awkward laugh: "I would like to meet the supreme commander of the kingdom's army."

The Knights Captain asked warily, "I don't care who you are, this is a military restricted area, and I demand that you leave immediately!"

Randall sighed, took the letter of appointment Todd had given him from his bag, and handed it to the battalion commander.

With an incredulous look in his eyes, the captain of the knightly legion read through the appointment letter personally written by the Holy King. He straightened up, gave a knightly salute, and said respectfully, "Excuse me, Mr. Randall, I will take you to the military camp now."

As he walked along the road, Aldenan first looked at the knights on his right, and then at the orcs on his left.

Their six-person team was like the ham sandwiched between two slices of bread, surrounded in the middle.

Aldenan leaned closer to Carol and whispered, "I've heard that the Crusaders and the Knights of Twilight are at odds, but I never imagined it would be this serious."

Before Carol could speak, the lizardman Kellogg behind him said, "In Twilight City, the Crusader's behavior is somewhat restrained due to its proximity to the Dragon God's Sanctuary. But in places like Froststone City, Holy Guard City, and Silver Ring City, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to describe the Crusader and human armies as being at loggerheads."

Bulwell added: "The human army believes that they are the earliest group to follow the dragon god and deserve a higher status and more resources; while the Crusaders regard humans as a scourge of an old species and have never been friendly to them."

Pale blue light patterns flickered on Barbara's forehead: "I don't understand. The Crusaders were originally human, so why do they have to look at their former compatriots with such strange eyes?"

Aldenan shrugged at Barbara: “It’s not hard to understand. Imagine a group of poor people living in a slum. Suddenly one day, a small group of them becomes rich, wearing expensive new clothes and living in luxurious houses. Naturally, there will be a divide between the two groups. The poor will hate the rich, thinking they have forgotten the past; the rich will despise the poor, thinking they are beneath their notice.”

Bulville shook his massive bull head and retorted to the werewolf, "The relationship between the Crusaders and humans is not as simple as the division between rich and poor!"

Kellogg, the lizardman, flicked his tongue, a slow smile playing on his lips: "Hiss... But I must admit, it's a brilliant metaphor."

Randall, who was walking at the front, turned around and said, "Gentlemen, I also have a question. We often discuss the conflict between humans and the Crusaders, but are there no conflicts between different races within the Crusaders themselves?"

The other five people looked at each other in bewilderment.

Kellogg, the lizardman, spoke first: "That's a good question."

"In fact, there are quite complex relationships between the different factions within the Crusader."

"Take the lizard people, for example. In our race, the belief in gods is placed in the primary position. In other words, the worship of the supreme dragon god is the entirety of our spiritual life. We spend six to twelve hours a day praying in the temple and worshipping in the heavens. We gather together to praise the dragon god's achievements, sing hymns of faith, and offer tributes to the gods to the best of our ability."

The minotaur Bulville agreed, "That's right, the same goes for the minotaur race. Faith is everything to us."

Kellogg extended his claw and pointed at Bulville, saying, "Therefore, the lizardmen and minotaurs have a very good relationship within the Crusader because we share a common pursuit of faith and the same understanding. But even so, there are differences between the minotaurs and lizardmen."

Aldenan asked curiously, "You have disagreements too?"

"Hiss, we lizardmen are much more 'strict' when it comes to dealing with external things..."

Bulwell interrupted Kellogg: "I don't think that word is harsh, it's cruel. Take what just happened as an example. If those prisoners had fallen into the hands of the lizardmen, I'm sure their fate would have been a hundred times worse."

Kellogg spread his claws: "The orcs' treatment of their prisoners is far too brutal and wasteful. If it were us, hiss... we would tie these heretics to the altar, cut open their chests, rip out their hearts, and offer them to the supreme dragon god."
