"No!"
Witnessing his companion's gruesome death, Randall roared, discarding his shield and wielding his sword with both hands. He cleaved a parasitic corpse in two at the waist and charged up the stairs to retrieve his companion's body.
The parasitic corpse, consisting only of the upper body, fell at Randall's feet. In its struggle, it suddenly sprang up and bit hard at the latter's calf.
An arrow fell from the sky and pierced the parasitic corpse's head, pinning it firmly to the ground.
Ashley drew another arrow, the bowstring snapped, and sent a parasitic corpse that had climbed the wall flying into the air.
She shouted to the survivors on the ground, "There's so much of this stuff!"
As Carroll fought, he retreated to Randall's side and said in a deep voice, "She's right. These monstrous things have already taken over most of the wall. They'll be able to storm the rooftop soon!"
Ashley shouted as she directed the griffins to circle overhead, "Listen up! I can only take one more person with me!"
Randall, having gradually calmed down, surveyed the surrounding situation.
He knew Ashley was telling the truth.
The number of enemies around the rooftop is increasing, and the Valkyrie can only land one more time at most, which means that only one of her, Carol, and Aldnan will be saved.
Randall swung his sword and beheaded an enemy, then said to Carroll without turning his head, "I told you before, I would be the last one to leave."
Carroll brought his axe down vertically, smashing a parasitic corpse crawling on the ground, and shouted, "What about Barbara? Are you going to let her despair again?!"
Randall took a deep breath and suddenly whispered, "She's pregnant."
"What?!"
“I only learned of this recently myself.” Randall plunged his longsword into the enemy’s mouth, smashing the latter’s brainstem, then pulled it out, saying, “That child will be the continuation of my bloodline, and also the hope for her life…”
Carol shook her head and said, "Then you should go back to her!"
Randall turned to Carroll and smiled, saying, “My child is a hybrid of human and elf. When he is born, I hope people will call him the son of a hero, so that he will not be discriminated against or humiliated. He and his mother will live in glory and happiness.”
Carroll looked at Randall and instantly understood his good intentions.
He nodded slowly, then shouted loudly towards the Valkyrie hovering in the air, "We have chosen the last one!"
As Ashley slowly descended, Carroll grabbed Aldnan, who was fighting like a madman.
The werewolf's eyes were bloodshot, his arms trembled uncontrollably, and he kept repeating, "I'm not a coward, I'm not a coward..."
Carol grabbed Aldenan's shoulder and said to him, "You should go."
Seemingly unable to believe his ears, Aldenan's eyes widened, and he stammered, "Me? But you, I always thought..."
Feeling the strong wind pressure as the griffin descended, Carol slowly pulled Aldenan into her arms, patted his back, and whispered, "Live well...brother."
Before Aldenan could react, he suddenly realized that he had been thrown into the air by Carol.
Under Ashley's command, the griffin swooped down, seized the werewolf with its claws, and then flew away into the distance with a long cry.
Ashley, riding on the griffin's back, looked back one last time at the clock tower engulfed by the horde of zombies, slowly closed her eyes, and turned her head away.
The cries of griffins could no longer be heard in the sky, and the last glimmer of light was swallowed up by dark clouds.
Carroll and Randall, armed with their tattered weapons, fought their way back until they finally retreated to a corner on the rooftop.
With his chest heaving and panting heavily, Carol punched a parasitic zombie off the platform.
Seeing the parasitic black liquid that had fallen onto the arm armor, Carol quickly took off the piece of equipment, which was emitting white smoke and gradually corroding, and threw it on the ground.
Randall's longsword had already broken in two, and all he could do now was use the broken piece, which was only the length of his palm, as a dagger.
As more and more parasitic zombies climbed over the wall and jumped onto the edge of the rooftop, a rare smile appeared on Carol's face.
"We don't have much time left."
Randall smiled and replied, "Yes."
"Is there any final wish?"
Upon hearing Carole's question, Randall thought for a moment and then said, "I certainly won't be able to see my child... If possible, I hope to see my mother after I die and receive her forgiveness."
“I’ve heard about this, and to be honest, it’s not your fault.”
Randall picked up a rock from the ground and smashed it over the head of an approaching enemy, saying, "And you?"
Carroll paused for a moment, then said, "There's something I've always wanted to say to a woman."
"What kind of words?"
"I am grateful for the warmth she once gave me, which made me believe in this world again."
Randall turned his head to look at Carroll, and although he didn't say anything, there was a faint warmth on his face.
This expression made Carol feel somewhat uneasy and embarrassed.
Finally, the two had nowhere left to retreat.
The rooftop was completely surrounded by a dense mass of parasitic corpses, and the roaming parasites made the ground look like a woven carpet.
Carol threw the broken axe at the enemy, her body finally giving way to exhaustion. She slowly slumped against the wall, muttering, "It's finally all over..."
