Chapter 720 The Coming and Going Between Lovers

Rachel: "There's never a right or wrong time. If you lend a helping hand this time, what about next time? And the time after that? Besides, the destruction of the world is inevitable this time. Preserving yourself will always give you a future..."

Todd closed his eyes and gave a wry smile: "You mean, even if the child is gone, we can always have another one, right?"

Rachel looked at Todd, took a deep breath, and said, "Even without Sutherland triggering the apocalypse, the undead will still destroy everything, just like what we experienced together in our past life. It's just a recurring nightmare... Todd, come with me. In the new world, we can start over. With our soul memories, we can create a more perfect world."

Todd shook his head vigorously: "A more perfect world? You can't even protect what you have right now, so what future are you talking about?"

"If I don't even try and immediately assume failure, then all my previous efforts will be meaningless. Even if I run away this time, the shadow of failure will follow me forever, torment me, and make me regret it for the rest of my life."

"Think about the times we fought, think about the people who fought alongside us. How could I abandon them and run away? I can't do it."

Rachel could no longer remain calm, her voice rising several decibels: "Look at this! In this situation, do you think there's any chance of winning if we stay?!"

Todd stared into Rachel's eyes and said firmly, "To protect that city, to protect those who trust me... even if there's only a one in ten thousand chance, I will stay."

Rachel was stunned.

After a while, Rachel closed her eyes and laughed instead. As she laughed, she whispered, "I should have guessed it. This is more like you."

Todd looked quietly at Rachel and said, "I know my words and actions seem like those of a hot-blooded idiot to you, but even knowing that death is inevitable, abandoning everyone and running away... I still can't do it. So..."

Rachel opened her eyes and looked at Todd: "So? So what? You're suggesting I leave alone?"

Todd shrugged and said with a wry smile, "You don't need to die with an idiot..."

Rachel said expressionlessly, "Yes, I have no reason to die with an idiot."

After saying that, Rachel left the garden without looking back.

Returning to the manor gate, after glancing at Meredith, who was weeping in her mother's arms, Rachel walked up to Sutherland and said, "Send me away."

Sutherland glanced at Rachel: "I told you before, you can't convince him."

Rachel repeated, "Send me away."

In an instant, Rachel's soul returned to the island in the lava.

Getting up from the ground, Rachel glanced at the giant dragon in the center of the island, then climbed back up the cave to the platform where the aliens gathered.

Approaching Eliad, Rachel asked, "Where are the things I asked you to prepare?"

Elijah looked at Rachel, frowned, and asked, "Are you sure?"

Ratchel: "I'm sure."

Eliard pulled a strangely shaped key from his pocket and said to Rachel, "This is the key to my lab. Everything you need is in there..."

Rachel took the key and noticed that Eliad seemed hesitant to speak.

Rachel: "Just say what you want to say."

Elijah: "Ratchel, you should leave with us."

Rachel put the key in her pocket: "I'll stay."

Elijah: "Because of what? Todd?"

Rachel turned away: "No, because I'm an idiot."
