Chapter 720 The Coming and Going Between Lovers

The souls of Rachel, Evie, and Meredith were pulled into Sutherland's soul space.

Amidst the magnificent sunset, accompanied by the gentle chirping of insects and a pleasant breeze rustling through the heavy grapevines, Sutherland's estate sits quietly atop the hill.

Meredith gazed at the distant manor, her eyes slowly widening. She muttered something unconsciously to herself as she walked forward absentmindedly.

Evie glanced at Meredith and asked Rachel, "What is she saying?"

Rachel: "In ancient Taro, that is my home."

The three of them slowly walked up the steps on the slope to the gate of the manor.

A middle-aged woman and a young couple were standing at the entrance.

Meredith walked up to the middle-aged woman, reaching out a trembling hand to touch her face, but hesitated, fearing something.

Sutherland emerged from the manor, looked at the three women who had arrived, and gestured a welcoming gesture.

Meredith suddenly rushed forward, grabbed Sutherland's clothes, and shouted, "These are all illusions you've created! My mother, my brothers and sisters are all dead!"

Sutherland did not resist, and said softly, "After I gained a body, I had the necromancers in the Elder Council store their souls in my body... But because so much time has passed, I only found three of them, and all three of their souls have suffered varying degrees of damage. As for the others..."

Meredith stared, mouth agape, at her smiling mother beside her. Her lips parted slightly, and she was utterly stunned, as if struck by lightning: "So...they're all real..."

Ignoring the scenes of family reunions, Evie rushed up to Sutherland and asked immediately, "Where's Todd?"

Sutherland stepped aside to make way.

Evie rushed into the manor.

Rachel followed behind Evie, and as they passed Sutherland, she glanced up at Evie without saying a word.

Rushing into the front courtyard of the manor, Evie found Todd standing among the flowers in the garden.

Rushing over, Evie hugged Todd tightly and breathed a sigh of relief: "Thank goodness, you're alright."

Todd patted Evie on the back, a hint of bitterness on his face.

"How is Muxi City?"

Hearing Todd's question, Evie looked up and said, "Wayne has created the necromancy vaccine, the city's defenses are almost complete, and everyone has sworn to live and die with the city..."

Todd nodded slightly.

Rachel walked into the garden and stood opposite Todd.

This scene is like a pair of lovers reuniting after being separated for centuries.

Rachel asked in a low voice, "Will you blame me for not telling you those things?"

Todd: "Are you referring to abandoning Twilight City, or to the matter of soul memories?"

Rachel's expression froze for a moment, then she said, "You finally remembered."

Todd: "With Sutherland's help, I remembered some things from my past lives, things that are much older than what I lived on Earth."

Rachel: "We were together, we tried to change everything, but..."

Todd shook his head, interrupting Rachel: "When did you realize you possessed soul memories?"

Rachel: "Previously, Sabrina and I visited the Council of Elders and intended to obtain Eliard's notes... but what I did not expect was that my every move was being monitored by Sutherland."

Todd: "It was around that time that Sutherland helped you recall your past life memories."

Rachel: "Yes."

Todd: "But I don't understand, after bringing you back to Twilight City, I've seen you many times in the Soul Space, but I've never seen any fluctuations of your soul..."

Todd paused for a moment after saying this.

He quickly added, "I understand. Sutherland has placed certain protections on your soul to prevent anyone from noticing anything amiss."

Todd sighed slightly: "It was from that time that you and Sutherland reached some kind of agreement. You helped him contain and relocate alien races, and he promised to give you a way to escape before the end of the world."

Evie pulled a spear from behind her back, pointed it at Rachel's chest, and said coldly, "You have broken your oath."

Facing Evie's weapon, Rachel remained calm and slowly said, "I have never betrayed my oath, but the object of my oath was only Todd, not Twilight City."

Todd reached out and pressed down on Evie's spear, saying to Rachel, "Is there a difference between abandoning Twilight City and abandoning me?"

Seeing the sadness in Todd's expression, Rachel's gaze softened: "Todd, we discussed this a long time ago..."

“You can’t protect Muxi City forever, or protect everything there. You will leave sooner or later… To me, Muxi City with you is a place that can be called home. If you are gone, that city will be no different from a pile of stones in my eyes.”

Todd: "That's the city that you and I built with our own hands. We watched it grow from a desolate beach into what it is today."

Rachel: "Children cannot live under their parents' wings forever; sooner or later they must learn to be self-reliant and grow up independently."

Todd took a step closer to Rachel and said in a deep voice, "But if the whole family is on the verge of destruction, parents would never leave now, leaving their child alone to face unknown dangers! Rachel, do you understand? Now is not the right time to leave!"
