The fifth day of the singularity calculation, in Clemens' room.
Wearing glasses, Liz placed a sheet of paper filled with data on Clemens's desk and said, "I've finished calculating the wave function of the crustal vector lines. I conducted a directional simulation using the ST model for verification and confirmed that there are no problems."
Clemens, his face covered in stubble, nodded, placed the paper on top of the thick stack of documents beside him, and turned his attention back to the graphics on his laptop.
Liz stretched, picked up an empty cup, and walked to the outer corridor of the room. She went to the coffee machine to make a cup, but found that the machine displayed the words "Ingredients Shortage".
Liz knocked on the door, and a soldier opened it from the outside.
Liz pointed to the coffee machine and said to the soldier, "We're out of coffee beans."
The soldier nodded and closed the door again.
Pressing her ear against the door, Liz made sure the soldiers were far away before tiptoeing to Clemens' side and whispering, "We have to find a way to get out of here."
Clemens said with a wry smile, "Getting out of here is no less difficult than leaving Earth."
Liz said worriedly, "Have you considered that even if we help him calculate the singularity, will he ultimately let us go?"
Clemens thought for a moment and gave his answer: "From his perspective, it would be more in his interest to keep us here. But the premise is that we must be able to create enough value."
Liz sighed. "Perhaps we should suggest sending Alice back to her room and forbidding her from going out again."
Clemens said in a low voice, "I doubt the major will agree. Alice is more like a hostage, or rather, a bargaining chip in his hands, so that we can calculate the singularity as soon as possible."
Liz: "When Alice came back a few days ago, she said she was taken to a school full of toys and lots of other children. Is that possible?"
Clemens: "Many people are forbidden from leaving this military base and that research institute. Many of these people are elderly, and they must have children. Their children must be in a boarding school-like place for centralized management. Perhaps Alice was sent there."
After hearing this, Liz nodded helplessly.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Liz turned around and said, "Our coffee beans, finally."
As she walked over and opened the door, Liz saw a face that made her nervous and uneasy.
Major Cole smiled and looked at the two people in the room, asking, "How's the progress?"
Clemens and Liz exchanged a glance.
Clemens said, "Things are going well. At this rate, we should have two more days..."
The major interrupted him: "I need to see the final coordinates by six o'clock tonight."
Clemens jumped to his feet in shock: "Before six o'clock? There are only... nine hours left! How is that possible?!"
Major Cole's smile vanished, replaced by a blank expression. "According to the observations of the potential field, the singularity's energy is rapidly accumulating and has a high probability of fully erupting tonight."
Liz said, "But it's impossible for us to reduce the error to within one kilometer in such a short time!"
Major Cole waved his hand: "I know time is of the essence, so I'm not sticking to my previous demands. I'm just asking you to narrow down the scope as much as possible."
Clemens breathed a sigh of relief: "If that's the case, we'll try our best to minimize the error, but I can't guarantee the results will be ideal."
Major Cole looked at Clemens and suddenly said, "Professor Scott, you're coming with me tonight for the Singularity reconnaissance."
Clemens was taken aback: "I'm going tonight too?"
Major Cole: "Don't you want to test your results?"
Liz tugged at Laclemens and shook her head slightly.
Clemens thought for a moment and replied, "I will go, but please guarantee the safety of Liz and my daughter."
Major Cole smiled slightly: "They are perfectly safe here."
As Liz closed the door, she anxiously grabbed Clemens: "Why did you agree to him?! It's too dangerous to go there!"
Clemens rubbed his face vigorously: "I had no choice... I agreed to go with him so that he wouldn't question our calculations."
Liz covered her face in anguish: "God, if anything happens to you, how am I supposed to explain it to Alice?"
Clemens pulled Liz into his arms: "I'll be fine. As long as we can prove our calculations are correct, we can secure a place here, and at least our lives won't be in danger anymore."
Liz gritted her teeth and said, "Come on, we only have less than nine hours left, and we still have a lot of work to do."
Six o'clock in the evening.
When Clemens presented the final calculations to Major Cole, the latter's expression turned somewhat grim.
"Alexis Park Resort Hotel, Carnival Casino Hotel, Green Valley Shopping Center, Winterwood Park, MCJ Monarch High School..."
Looking at the huge red circle on the map, Major Cole asked, "This estimated area is located in downtown Las Vegas, covering an area of approximately 12 square kilometers. It's a full 230 kilometers away from the singularity location predicted by headquarters... Professor Scott, are you sure?"
Clemens nodded: "I can confirm that the singularity is within this region. But due to time constraints, I can only narrow down the margin of error to this area."
