Major Cole said in a deep voice, "If the singularity really does erupt in the city center, as you say, it will definitely become a huge problem... Just think about it, tens of thousands of citizens will witness all of this..."
Clemens suggested, "Perhaps we could close the streets beforehand to reduce unnecessary trouble."
Major Cole: "Impossible. Locking down the city requires the highest level of authority, and doing so would expose our whereabouts."
Clemens understood the major's unspoken message: "Are we operating alone tonight?"
Major Cole: "Professor Scott, please remember that tonight we are on a routine patrol."
Half an hour later, Clemens, wearing a bulletproof vest and a walkie-talkie, got into a Hummer H1 and left Groom Lake Military Base, heading towards downtown Las Vegas.
Looking at the fully armed soldiers inside the vehicle, Clemens nervously rubbed his hands together.
Major Cole glanced at him and said, "Professor Scott, stay close to me and don't stray too far... I don't want to see you get lost. After all, your daughter and assistant are waiting for you to come back."
Clemens, understanding the deeper meaning behind the other person's words, remained silent with a gloomy face.
As the convoy followed the highway closer to downtown Las Vegas, the dazzling lights and bustling streets stood out starkly against the backdrop of the desolate desert.
Major Cole, glancing at the vehicle's navigation map, gave the order through the walkie-talkie next to his helmet: "Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, move to the tactical point."
The convoy split into four teams, each heading in a different direction.
Major Cole pointed to the map and said to Clemens, "Based on the singularity range you provided, I have divided the entire area into four zones, and each action team will be responsible for patrolling one zone."
"No matter where the singularity erupts, my people can get to the scene as quickly as possible."
After speaking, he gestured to the soldier beside him, who pressed a button on his portable computer, and a row of miniature drones were launched from the rear of the vehicle and flew into the sky above the city.
Clemens watched the drone fly further and further away and asked, "What should we do now?"
Major Cole adjusted the back of his seat, closed his eyes, and said, "Wait."
