Eleanor blinked as she spoke to Todd, “Feeling sorry for your little lover? Let me guess what Rachel and Elijah told you? Did Eleanor imprison Rachel’s soul in her friend’s body to punish her? Did Elijah deliberately tell Eleanor that the body was flawed and unusable to protect Rachel?”
"Todd, you really trust people, which is funny but also endearing about you."
Todd frowned and asked, "What do you mean?"
“If Rachel had angered me back then, I would have had a thousand ways to imprison her soul, torture and humiliate her, and make her suffer unbearable pain. Why did I use the soul transfer ritual to give her a new body and then set her free?”
“Iliad used humans for replication and captivity experiments. He was a ruthless and cruel butcher. Hundreds and thousands of experimental subjects were born from his hands. Why would he be so fond of Rachel and risk falling out with another elder to protect her?”
“Illid told me that Rachel’s body was flawed and unusable. Would I really be so foolish as to believe his nonsense without even checking it myself?”
Eleanor pressed close to Todd, gently touching his cheek with her hand, and said softly, "Even so, you are different from everyone I've ever met. You've always tried to believe and trust others from the bottom of your heart, and you can't bear to expose even obvious lies."
Todd, expressionless, brushed Eleanor's hand away and said in a deep voice, "Then tell me the so-called truth."
Eleanor reluctantly looked away from Todd's face, continuing to walk forward as she said, "The truth is simple. Elijah wanted to find the secret within me, and Rachel was still useful to me at the time, so I didn't want her to die."
After saying this, Eleanor stepped down the last step and looked ahead, saying, "We have arrived at my holy land, the future of the Elders, the Mother Nest."
