Chapter 30 Congratulations on your new life
Qi An said, "They were obviously fighting over the defection," but the two men saw her out of the corner of their eyes as they fell from the building.
Their fighting spirit seemed to surge even higher in an instant, as if they wished they could kill each other on the spot.
But when the blade was truly pressed against their necks, and Qi An's brows furrowed deeply, they all stopped simultaneously.
It seems that "she will worry" is a spell with more magic than the base's orders, giving the two a sense of protection and tacit understanding of acceptance of constraints, in addition to their hatred, jealousy, and eagerness to vent their anger at being manipulated by fate.
Chen Xi made the first move, and he was also the first to withdraw his knife.
The silver dagger trembled slightly in his hand, shaking off a few drops of bright red blood, before returning to its black sheath, still gleaming silver.
Chen Xi also had a cell phone in his waist bag. He pressed two buttons and tossed it to Chen Yuezhou on the ground.
There was a video on the phone.
Sitting behind a simple, clean gray desk, a middle-aged man in a white lab coat, with ordinary features and even somewhat deformed bone structure, appearing ugly and incongruous, spoke in a detached tone:
"Research using your and Lin Ran's stem cells, sperm, and egg cells has yielded remarkable results."
No matter what you think, the research at the base will not stop.
My stance on you is very clear: if you try to stop the research or harm the clones, then die.
However, if you're a bit smarter than Lin Ran, and can spot the micro-bomb, and have the ability to bypass the remote detonation and retrieve it..."
The deep wrinkles on the man's face seemed to smooth out for a moment, and his eyes, though not handsome, were exceptionally dark and deep, like a speck of smile on a glass marble that would be wiped away in an instant.
"Then you can leave."
"Join North 1 or any government base; you're someone I personally nurtured, and you'll fight for the rebirth of humanity wherever you are."
He concluded with a smile, "Congratulations on your new life, Yuezhou."
The video freezes on the moment that smile fades, and the man's once again indifferent black eyes seem to pierce through the screen, across thousands of miles of space and time, right before your eyes!
Chen Yuezhou immediately turned off the screen.
He used some force to throw the phone back to Chen Xi, his expression cold yet complex!
The person in the video saved him at the beginning of the apocalypse, as well as many surviving children from the orphanage, and led them to the cold north to establish a newborn base.
Li Bingzhu.
It was his benefactor again, and it was him again...
Chen Yuezhou felt as if he had a heavy breath stuck in his chest. He had already tested the attitude of the North 1 Command and received a positive response. Now that the original base's attitude was clear, he was free.
But it seems like this foul air can never be expelled!
Like a fishbone stuck in my throat, like a glaring black spot lying across the sunlight every day!
However, bathed in golden light, Qi An sat on a bench by the path downstairs.
Chen Xi sheathed his sword, took the phone, and walked over. He squatted down in front of the bench, bowing his head as if admitting his mistake.
Qi An didn't say anything, didn't hold his hand or pat his head, but just urged him to treat his wounds while he remained sitting there.
Golden and blue-purple wildflowers swayed gently in the wind in the grass. Chen Yuezhou, just like before, seemed to appear out of nowhere and sat down next to Qi An.
Qi An turned his head to look at him: "Chen Xi apologized, as if I was the one interfering with your fight."
Actually, both of them are adults, and no one asked her for help. It's up to her whether she wants to hit them or not.
She simply felt that beating someone half to death, to the point that neither of them could get out of bed for a week, just to vent her emotions or because of Chen Yuezhou's long-standing concern about whether Chen Xi was better than him, was unnecessary.
This is a waste of the base's already scarce medical resources!
Qi An was only worried that Chen Xi was indeed carrying the mission to kill Chen Yuezhou, and about the outcome of Chen Yuezhou leaving the new student base.
However, when she saw that the two were fighting openly, she felt that her first worry could be put aside.
"So what was the result?" Qi An asked, tilting his head.
Chen Yuezhou showed his phone to Qi An.
Just one minute ago, the North 1 Base Command sent the appointment to his personal email address and onto the military tablet he still keeps.
It was also a bright red appointment letter:
[Chen Yuezhou, a colonel and officer from the original Martial God Corps of the New Student Base, has had his application to join the Western Region No. 1 Base officially approved.]
Because his military rank system is not consistent with the national military rank sequence, his military rank will be temporarily retained, and his position will be the commander of the third battle regiment of the No. 1 base in the Western Regions.
Chen Yuezhou's duties are: to build and train the Third Battle Regiment into a strong and iron-willed force capable of firmly protecting the safety of the base!
The specific responsibilities at this stage are to integrate new recruits, establish the organizational and management system of the battle group, and establish a complete reconnaissance and defense system around the base to ensure the safety of materials and personnel entering and leaving the Western Region No. 1 Base.
Appendix: Zhou Yanhui, the former captain of the 1st squad of the Martial God Team at the New Student Base, and his squad members, as well as Lu Sui, the purifier of the 5th squad of the Martial God Team, can be incorporated into the 3rd Battle Group of the 1st Base in the Western Regions.
Their military ranks remain unchanged, and their positions are determined by the regimental commander and submitted to the Western Region No. 1 Base Land Defense Command for approval.
Zhou Yanying, a neurosurgeon from the original Xinsheng Base, can join the First Field Hospital of the Western Region No. 1 Base. Her specific position and work will be determined by the hospital director.
Both the North Base 1 General Command and the New Base Construction Command welcome you all and hope that you will find a new home in this new era.
After reading the appointment letter, Qi An couldn't help but smile as he looked at Chen Yuezhou.
Chen Yuezhou was also smiling at her.
As the last rays of the setting sun faded and dusk was about to fall, the two of them inexplicably burst into laughter.
"We'll be colleagues from now on. Oh, and you'll be our boss from now on. Please take good care of me." Qi An extended his hand.
Chen Yuezhou immediately grasped that hand gently yet firmly, and pulled her into his arms.
"Thanks."
He used all his strength to resist the urge to hug the person in his arms tightly, and simply repeated those two words in her ear.
Without Qi An, he would never have his current life and freedom.
She helped her wholeheartedly.
However, as he was overwhelmed with a myriad of emotions, he was forcefully pushed away by Qi An.
"No, why do you all like to get physical?"
If you want to thank me, help me fix the door!
"Didn't we agree that it would be fixed before tonight? It's already evening!" Qi An glared angrily at Chen Yuezhou.
Her apartment door, perhaps during the disaster, became a battlefield where a fierce neighbor wielding an axe confronted a fallen insect. A huge hole was cleaved in the door, and half of a disgusting, dried-up tentacle was stuck inside!
Although he was about to leave, Qi An still wanted to stay in his beloved little apartment for two to three weeks, and he had already decided to tidy everything up properly and make it clean before he left.
This is an account of these three good years!
